I listened to this live yesterday, it was very moving. I'm alcoholic, I went thirteen years dry, crashed mentally, am now in another battle to rid myself of this. Anyone who looks down or criticises an addict, just think this, who wakes up one morning and decides 'today I'll be an addict'. No one. Like Perry, I thought I was different to others, I was functioning, meeting other addicts was a leveller, the biggest life lesson I've learnt. There is help, I'm receiving it, sending love xx
All the best battling the demons and stay strong 💪
Much love bro keep going I'm going rehab soon keep strong one day at a time
get back mate and stay strong you have done it once please stay dry my friend
Keep strong, really hoping it all works out for you.
Good luck John, keep on, keeping on.
Respect to This lad! I Iam also A alcoholic! I went to look for help And Iam now clean for 4years…best decision ever!
As a person who works in mental health for the NHS its people like Perry, 'manly' men talking about how they feel what theyve been through and showing how much talking can help. Well done mate. Good luck for the future Perry!
Perry you have made me cry well done mate brilliant
Made up to see Perry 7 months clean , well done mate,a great player and I have met him and he's a nice guy YNWA
I never comment on CZcams videos but I just wanted to say well done talkSPORT for addressing this in such length and for Perry for doing this. I'm sure his wife and family and everyone surrounding him are very proud. Well done mate.
Perry I tell you what it’s like your telling my life story to do with the drinking. This has moved me and give me extra motivation to stop I’ve just recently relapsed and it’s caused mayhem in my life. I’m a massive Arsenal fan and used to watch you playing over Highbury when I was a kid. Thanks Perry this interview has inspired me all love and power to you mate. 🙏❤️🙏
I’d never have known Perry as you always came across as so professional and erudite over the years. Well done on that huge achievement and for sharing- takes guts. All the best & look forward to hearing you more on Talksport.
Well done Jim. I’m 16 half years clean, sober and cigarette free. One day at a time. Good man Perry thanks for sharing your experience strength and hope. 🙏🙏
It's very courageous for Perry to confront this live on air and Jim as he states is coming up 12 years sober. The big problem I have though is with TALKSPORT being very duplicitous here because the flip side to this is Alan Brazil and several of the morning pundits glorifying going out on daytime drinking sessions after the show. Also it's disingenuous to be concerned about addiction and at the same time pushing gambling ads heavily during the breakfast show and even having a regular odds roundup .
Not everyone is an addict though 😂 You can't start catering to folk with problems just to appease another section of society.
@@rolandprat9648 It's a personal choice to be "an addict" These pathetic simps always blaming others when in essence it's a choice.
Brazil probably doesn't drink as much as he makes out. No way could he function the way he does
The sooner twonks like Alan tomato head Brazil and Party prat Parlour leave the network the better
@@Tdawgmcginty they are the network yah numpty 😵💫
shoutout to anyone fighting any addiction demons
All the very best Perry, great to hear you are on the recovery march, you have taken the biggest step already by admitting your addiction keep it going mate, you obviously have a rock beside you your wife Josie
My Very Best Wishes To You Both
From GOONER Chris.
💪💪👏👏❤️❤️
Perry thank you so much for being as equally brave as you are vulnerable.
Addiction in any form is a monster waiting in the shadows and I have no doubt your testimony will have helped many addicts. I have had both family members and friends struggle with Alcoholism and it’s no laughing matter.
Although comparison is the destroyer of joy for me sharing this story beats any achievements you had in football. Tony Adam’s, Paul Merson, Kenny Samson etc…I wonder whether there was a drinking culture in football circa 1980’s/1990’s that either encouraged or facilitated the problem?? Either way you are an inspiration my friend.
This subject matter is SERIOUS and it is an ADDICTION. Congratulations on being 7 months sober and long may your abstinence continue.
🙏❤️.x
Another reason as to why Talk Sport is at the top of its game. God bless ya Perry, for finding the strength.
Wtf
Sober myself now 7 years. Best decision I've made, good on you Peru it's hard but once you get past it you'll neve look back
Well done guys... .I'm an alcoholic too, I'm 5 years sober and all I can say is this....one day at a time Perry
Well done Perry and you too Jim . that was me nearly 13 years ago and proud to say sober since.
15 years clean and sober in June. Never met anyone who regrets getting sober. A good life this. AA saved my and millions of lives.
Well done for creating awareness Jim & Perry. I admire you both. Keep up the good work.
Respect to Perry 👍
So powerful. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic Perry! As a recovered addict I admire massively your honesty, your courage, your humility!
Imagine if everyone in our world was to have that same humility! What a world we would have!
Brave man Perry, good luck with your recovery!!! You've recognised your issue, and are dealing with it, be strong and much respect to you 👏 👍
It's an acquaintance that becomes a friend, a best mate and finally a bully. A terrible affliction. Good luck perry.
Thank you for sharing your story Perry. I can't believe it but I feel that way at times. I hear you loud and clear.
Absolutely love this interview, very brave, I'm in the same place, I'm now going to seek help, thank you Perry
Good on you, that’s you making the first step 👍👏💪
well done all three of you. Great channel
I've never drank and don't have an addictive personality. But well done Perry and very brave to speak out. Hopefully this encourages others to stop drinking and to talk about their problems
Before my time as a gooner supporter but Perry always has struck me as a likeable person and an arsenal die hard! Having lost loved ones to alcoholism fair play for coming on air with such honesty. So many people naively think to be considered an alcoholic you have to been knocking the drink back everyday, and getting paralytic.much more complex than that!
New found respect for Talk Sport! Thank you
Excellent broadcasting from all of you. I’m an arsenal fan (palace are my second team) but I think it’s very important message perry and all of you put out there. Hats off and continue the good fight chaps
Incredible insight and Perry’s experiences resonated with me too the point where I now realise I have an alcohol problem and I will be seeking help
Good on you.
Good on you , WDR
Well done respect
Perry thank you for being so open and talking about a subject that has so much stigma and misunderstanding. I have a very close person in my life who is struggling with alcoholism and I have seen how destructive it reallly is and how powerless you are over this substance. All I can say from a family member's point of view, your family are so proud of you. But they're not just proud of you for being sober, but for recognising that you are struggling and youve commited to doing something about it. Thank you Simon & Jim for creating an environment for Perry to feel comfortable to share his story and for using your platform to really get this word out there 🤍
Welll done Perry👍🏽
Needed to hear this. Been 24hrs thinking on much of what Perry said here. Have decided to finally face myself and say no more. Going to be a long road ahead I know but even admittiting how much of a problem I have has already helped.
Wishing you all the best as you turn the corner and face your demons
@@geoffbuckley8285 thanks.
Well done, I wish you all the best in your road to recovery ❤️🩹 keep on keeping on WDR ODAAT
Good on Perry for sharing, hope it helps others 👍👍
Stopped drinking about 9 years ago, after my second tour of Afg, wasn't anywhere near being an alcoholic, only ever drank on a social occasion, the trigger for me was seeing the effect of not drinking had on other people, and them not being able to walk past a bar/pub when they got home, like making up for lost time, seemed to me like a sign of weakness, so I stopped completely not a big personal sacrifice.
What shocked me the most was other people's reactions from close friends to strangers, have a drink!! No thanks,, go on have a drink!! No thanks, I don't drink,,, what?? Why?? Its only one have a drink!!!!! No I am fine thanks,, you boring bstd have a drink!!!! Never ever realised how much drinking means to some people.
Fantastic. Well done
Sounds like me. I don’t drink during the week and don’t have cravings but come the weekend I get the greed, can’t stop and black out.
This is a bit of a wake up call.
Ive always liked Perry Groves punditry on Radio 5 and Talksport... great balanced breakdown`s, analysis and opinions when working the games and the current situations and issues of the day when broadcasting, articulate, intelligent & listenable ... keep going fella.. :)) x
God bless. Going through addiction myself its hard
Very fine line between an alcoholic, abuser of the stuff and a weekend social drinker.
Wow,bloody emotional.Well done boys.Stay strong.
I Shedded a tear listening too this honestly WOW
Very good chat
Spoke to perry a couple of times, lovely fella always has time for a chat. Best of luck to him and others like him
Well done Perry honestly well we’ll done this cannot be easy you are a Soldier a real man’s man. You’ve helped so so many people listening too this coming from 80s this was the normal through football clubs the norm mate. I’ve so much admiration for you my Soldier I could see and feel feel your emotions talking regarding this I am so proud off you and not just me right across the UK honestly trust me my friend Nuff Respect, your a real man’s man take care and and please keep up the talk sport work talking about the the premiership games love Joe x
Respect Perry from a Spurs fan. the struggle is real
My grandad and uncle died from being alcoholics and I've witnessed it. I dont drink much but when I do I get cravings but it only lasts a short time. I've stayed off it now for good
Get on the Chong instead boy
Now they call him Perrier Groves.
👏🏼👏🏼
Happy for this man. No one knows the battles we face as individuals. Would love to hear stories of peoples struggles with weed and addiction.
Good man perry, stay strong.... Takes balls to do what you did....
If you’ve got a addictive personality, stay away from gambling, alcohol and drugs. You’ll end up ruining your life and destroying your family. Now Perry groves needs to detox that Alcohol out of his system.
Will u drink when ur old enough edit Alex ?
Just thank you for talking about it 😢
Great TV, handled well by these three. Glad I didn’t fast forward.
impressive -these old wise men.
Top bloke
Nice one Perry I am with you all the way. One day at a time
Respect to Jim white and him not hiding his own past problems. And of course respect to perry as well. Hope they both continue on their upward curve.
As regards drugs and alcohol is a drug. Any drug that can change the way you feel and think is stronger than you. When you feel you are in control of your drug use that is when you should realise the drug controls you.
I can see Simon was very quiet, the emotion he was holding. I won’t say no more.
That was great.
Love that the show before this is alan brazil and ray party parlour
Much respect Perry Groves 💙
AA never worked for me it always felt like a cult. But respect to perry for battling his addiction
It is a cult, and statistically you have no better chance of recovery attending a 12 step programme than not!
fair play Perry. All the best on your journey.
Congratulations to Jim on his 12 year milestone, and also respect to Perry, for telling his story 👌🏽
Love you Jimbo. You should be proud. Well done my boy.
I suffered from the same blackouts, woke up in the cells one morning and got 6 months for assault and fighting with 4 police officers and couldn't remember 1 second of it.
Keep it going Perry ❤
Much love Perry
Meet Perry outside an arsenal themed event had a quick chat and thought what a lovely fella, this shows I was right🤷🏻♂️Get back to your best mr groves.
I was sexually abused when i was around 6 years of age they ended when i was around 12 years of age, it's playing havoc with my life still after 40 odd years I'm going to look for help after this
Gud luck to all those who r bad with alcohol , i am 15yr sober but i was in denile for longer , 3 suicide attempts cos of drink but sumhow i got there , wel done to perry and jim for going public , thanks
Well done Perry keep pounding.
Well done Perry. May you continue to be the winner you've always been.

Sir Simon = Top LAD Proper Clobber ✊💯 Facts
Sir Spectre and Sir Simon = Top LADS Proper Clobber
Bot Juankars.
Brave man
Good man Perry ,I wonder how Kenny Sansom is getting on
How to end alcohol dependence. Courage.
sansom, adams, groves, merson... what is it about Arsenal in particular where these veterans end up living in the shadow of addiction??
Well done Perry I’m 48 now and I’m just starting to realise my problem
Funny you said to Simon quietest I've ever seen you I was actually thinking the same, he actually was showing a bit of his human side and not a debate or controversial side.
What was disappointing, has to be Danjuma & McNeil put on defensive duties covering our full backs..no offensive attacking!!
I am off for help mate 😢
Best of luck pal
Well done Jim & Pezza
To be fair to Perry before the accusations of being weak flood him, to live with being ginger and then baldness is a double whammy many of us would struggle with. We should applaud his courageousness👏👏👏
Savage.
Alan Brazil needs to look at his lifestyle
its one of the most soul and lifes destroying addictions I have drank an average house value in booze x 2 i am ashamed about it, but i still love drinking good luck man, i really wish i never ever drank
Us Gooners love you Perry, we don't forget mate, great lad, you were part of my Arsenal team growing up, legend, ♥️ Big love to you my man 👍👍.
Simon and Perry = Top LADS Proper Clobber
Bit of a lightbulb moment for me watching this. Always known I had a drink problem I just thought it was due to other things. They were the problem and I was using alcohol to just put a plaster over it. I'm now hopeful its much easier and these other problems aren't real or at least are much less of a problem. That the real problem is I have an alcohol brain, binge drinking 4 days a week since I was 18 for 30 years. This resulted in me never developing a real personality outside of drink. If I can just stay off it for a as long as possible, forever ideally, I'll find that there is a person inside here who is just waiting to come out. Hopefully that's all it is! Because I just thought I was a freak and a loser, and I was doomed to be like this. If you had said to me it's just the drink Id have wanted to bite your head off, like don't you know my pain?? You want to take the drink off me too, I got nothing else! So now Im still doomed, but I can't get hammered either. NEVER REALIZED!
you will my man. Really good insight
Keep going perry
I’ve got ocd my children live 60 miles away I’ve always had a drink problem my anxiety is through the roof
Andy my thoughts are with you dude, I hope you can find a solution to your issues and use the fact you have children as a motivator to find that help and solution, there is light at the end of the tunnel and that light can be your kids, it’s just a matter of finding that someone or program that helps you stay focused on that light….remember dude you are loved.
good luck on your treatment Simon
Unfortunately, got Perry and Jim's T shirt. Takes a brave man.
Thought that was Phil Mitchell in the thumbnail 😂
Anybody who drives 3times over the limit should go to prison, could have killed someone.
Need a large one after listening to this... and only 2 minutes in
Lucky I take baclofen which helps my muscle spasms however it also helps with addiction to alcohol
