    Jeremy I want to thank you so much. I play for the Chicago Mission hockey club. I was a 4th line player for them. I only scored once about every 12 games. But now I have starting your videos and training at home every day. now I'm a 2nd line player who scores almost every game. I have earned the spot on my team so thank you for helping me on my journey.

    Jeremy your videos have helped me improve so much. I am a thirteen year old and I only play roller/inline hockey (ice is so much money) and I wasn't the best player. So the night before one of my games I watched a bunch of your videos while I was shooting in my garage. And I when I play in my game the next day and I got my first hat trick. I got the first goal of the game on the first shot (five hole) and another goal later in the first period (five hole) later on in the game was lined up with the goal line and I took a wrister bar down. And I owe that whole performance to your videos. It'd be awesome if you got back to me and once again thanks

    A good point for higher level players. The technique I talk about in the video can be applied to almost all shots from a variety of positions though, it's not only when you are in the slot with your shoulder to the net.

    Thank you Jeremy. I quit playing hockey after a minor injury to my knee cap, when i began high school. It's been the biggest regret of my life these past years, as a 21 year old getting back into hockey, it can be really nerve wrecking getting out there whether it's an open ice, or open hockey or even a league, when your at an age expected to be fully adapted... Your videos have been helping me regain what i had, but to somewhat catch up to all that i've missed. I've had major problems with shooting primarily. I feel as though i've i,proved by 300%, and have gone from power being my main weakness, to shooting way to high.

    I really like the 3rd tip, "actually try." Everybody forgets this, you sometimes let your mind wander and don't really pay attention to your shooting. I do this, every guy on the ice practicing i see does that 80% of the time. At drop-ins you see more guys kind of flinging shots and flicking them towards the net than you see really trying to drive it into the net. Great video!

    I plan on doing a video for this soon. For skating the best thing you can do is get lower, have good balance, and get full leg extension. Skating is very technical so I won't try to explain everything here, but the biggest issue I see with players is not enough knee bend. I shared a great e-book with the subscribers of my blog about improving skating, it is written by Kevin Neeld and is FULL of good info, if you visit his blog you should be able to find it. it's called Breakaway hockey speed

  • @26Proman
    @26Proman Před 10 lety +1

    It's optional depending on the situation and your style.
    When most players will lift their back leg as they shoot they are making sure that all of their weight is transferred forwards, however it can be hard to lift your leg in tight spaces and when coming out of a turn. Lifting your leg also makes you more vulnerable to body checks so watch out.

    I am ambidextrous, and lucky enough to dial it up from both sides (carried both right and left handed sticks). You do make a valid point about the top hand. I was fortunate to play hockey with some guys that had great NCAA, U.S. National team, NHL careers. I emulated what I saw them do while we played. At the age of 35, without touching a stick in over 20 years, I still hit 81 on the radar gun. I always thought about staying upright with my upper body through the shot, it helped increase torque.

    This is a great video. I was actually doing some research on what makes a "hard shot" in hockey because I believe the same concepts can be applied to picking up speed and distance on my golf swing. I noticed that you really extended your hands well out and through your shots. Also it is interesting to hear that you believe that 100 reps a day is a good objective to put the action into muscle memory. About 10,000 reps. That requires a disciplined work ethic but can be achieved with a good time schedule, I think.

    @howtohockeytraining  Před 11 lety

    Yes during the season focus on your technical skills as it will pay off a lot during games. During a game pay attention to your flaws or weaknesses and work on improving them (but also work on your strengths as well)
    During the off season don't be afraid to play other sports as well, sports like soccer, tennis, squash, and lacrosse will keep you in shape and also work similar muscles as hockey.

    I find with the wrist shot (the one I am showing) it's not nescessary but sometimes happens.
    With the snapshot (the method I teach in another video) it's basically required to get full weight transfer. In my article on the snapshot I show two NHL examples of good technique and both guys do the leg kick as it helps transfer the weight.
    For the slapshot you will sometimes lift the leg, it's a by product of getting all your weight into the shot and transferring weight from one leg to the other

    It depends which shot. With the snap shot it's critical to get the hands away from the body. Search Google images for Ovechkin snapshot and then TJ Oshie snapshot and you will see what I mean. They're hands are away from the body to flex the stick and get leverage in the snap motion at the end.
    With the wrist shot it happens but not quite as much. It happens VERY quickly though.
    There is a right and wrong way to have the hands out, so I know what you mean by being off balance. Technique is key.

    I dunno about that permanent muscle memory. I used to be able to snipe anything and go bar down. With my slap shot I used to be able to go bar down and shoot over the net from the blue line same with my wristers and snap shots. Now it’s inconsistent sometimes I can elevate it sometimes not. I can barely get air on my slappy and I can go top corner. Once you figure it out talent doesn’t just disappear. You’re supposed to have muscle memory once you do it once it doesn’t go away.
