Washing & Buffing the Turbo Diesel International Scout II - (Amazing Transformation!)
Vložit
- čas přidán 23. 07. 2024
- This 1980 International Scout II with a Nissan Turbo Diesel was left for dead in a grass field for almost 2 decades. The rig made a impressive 600 miles drive home without issues, so it deserves a clean up! We're starting the refurb process with a hand wash and buff - you won't believe the shine things old rig brings around!

Lexington Blue is the color and they were sharp new, I was a mechanic for International when this was new 1977-1989
Reminds a guy of the Grabber Blue that Ferd used on the MAV-ricks.
@@thatdumpsterfirelife7530 funny I was just thinking that almost looked like an old Ford color
@@thatdumpsterfirelife7530 and on them Bossy 302 type Mustang Curs ...
Fantastic!
Also S550 Mustangs had Grabber Blue as well.
Love the father son hug after he took a turn buffalating!
I saw that and instantly smiled. Son’s got a good teacher and dad encouraging him!
@@grumblykitten6813 Best CZcams family - hands down!
@@baconfarts3211 Absolutely!
Derek is a comedic genius. Reminds me of a modern-day Red-Green.
Lol. I thought he was red green's kid when I first seen an episode. He must've watched red green as a kid
Hey Derek, love how you are involving your youngling more in the revivals, I have to admit that I stood and cheered when Brently said your 'way too much, perfect' line. Brilliant work man. Love the channel. Tim from Australia
The boys got the “that’s waaay to much, perfect” down. Attaboy!
I literally laughed out loud at that!
Warmed my heart
Im sure this here was a proud papa bear moment for a feller
Loved the dad hugs later on too.
@@CraigH999 me too Craig... me too.
That little hug with your boy just brought a happy tear to my eye..tuggin' on my heart strings :)
Thinking the same thing brother.
Absolutely!
Stole my comment!
Oh yes
Truck looks good with some sparkle goin on. However it is so obvious that you and your little human have a great relationship, and that he worships you. Great job dad!
Loved little grip fixing daddy stool as he works buffing
I actually like those wheels on it!...nothing screams 1980 like those wheels!..keep em!
The aluminum turbine kinda spoked wheels nobody can agree on what theyre called? Yeah. They make the scout 10x better.
I had these wheels on my 1979 Toyota Celica bought new. They were called WESTERN WHEELS on the Celica.
100% agree…. a guy just doesn’t run across those turbine wheels much anymore. definitely an awesome classic look on that scout!
Chase Richards here in Australia they were called hurricanes. Thats going back to the 70's. Google it and thats what comes up.
@@bygodfreeman We called them Hurricane rims back in the day...Google kinda agrees along with turbine and western.
Yeah, yeah, yeah….best part was father and son hug!
The color is International Lexington Blue. Great job on getting her running, washing, and buffing. Mainly great job including your son in this project!!👍👍👌 Mint
In the midst of watching this piece of gold, I was presented with one of your O’Reillys adds and desided to watch the whole thing through and enjoyed every bit of it. Thanks for that CZcams.
Derek the annual "Harvester Homecoming" is at the old factory in Fort Wayne Indiana next weekend, bring er' home!
👍 👍 👍
A guy oughta keep the “period correct” turbine wheels and maybe put some more aggressive rubber on ‘em!
If he painted the recessed bits like Dodge turbine rims, it would really make them pop!
@@thatclintguy Yes, black!!! Would look awesome.
@@thatclintguy just what I thought - black, with the top edge of each fin unpainted, would look really sharp.
Agreed on keeping the turbines. Just got some to put on my Jeep Cherokee XJ. Love the look
At 13:13 a young fella showing his dad some love! Now if a fella watching doesn’t find that wholesome I’ll be dipped!
A tear of pride when he said “that’s waaaay too much”. It’s in the blood. Let’s see more of this beauty. Major score to git that. Black wheels, tires with a bit of nobs to keep ya out of trouble, and other goodies. Bring it on.
I really think the interior deserves a second life. This Scout is a Classic!
I liked Bentleys “That’s way too much… Perfect”.
I laughed out loud when he said that.
"It's getting worser but more better" was actually the most accurate way to describe how that sounded.
You should bring your Scout to Harvester Homecoming in Fort Wayne , Indiana. Held this year on August 2nd thru the 8th. It’s quite a big deal and their will be thousands of International truck and Scout fans on hand. I guarantee you they will love your Scout and appreciate your efforts. Their will be buyers there also. 👍
You should keep this unit, a feller really wants to see more videos of it
“That was way to much…Perfect!” Yeah don’t need no DNA test on that one cause that’s for sure a fellers kid
How much horsepower ya think that little fella would put out if they did DNA test him? Can’t be too much yet 🧐
@@GratefulEd907 about 49niner and a smidge. A feller will grow into them Vice Grip shoes soon enough
😆 😆 😆
I thought to myself "hes teaching that boy correctly." Lol!
@@ChaytonRemington, I was gonna say "He's raisin' that boy right", but hey.
I think it was awesome that you bought your kid along on the journey home. he will remember that forever.
That little guy is doing great 👍 👍 "That's way too much. Perfect" 🤣🤣🤣
That kid, "That's waaaaay too much. Perfect." This kid. I like this kid. He's goin' places. Well done, VGG!
I'd definitely hang on to this truck. The "neat factor" is way up there.
The Color looks just like 1970-71' Ford/ Merc Grabber Blue/ Comp Blue Derek !! 👍💙
Awesome video as always Derek. And that little father/son hug during the time-lapse video was awesome. Nothing feels better than a child's hug when working and getting tired. Just brings the life back in a fellow.
Love the relationshipship (that's way too much, perfect) you have with your son. He's a lucky young fella to have a dad like you.
8.27 a perfect picture to have .and a perfect truck for the little man .first trip .first truck ?
Just say pops
I hope no one buys her.your son should own that one
We need to see more! Love that Scout. Please keep the original General Lee style wheels. Taking those off would be like shaving Abe Lincoln’s side burns. The grill and the front need some pssssst pssssst and new lights. Thanks Derek👍
I've seen some pretty insane PDR guys take dents I'd never thought they could pull out. This thing seems to be a good candidate to clean it up a bit while keeping it's rugged look.
I absolutely love that Bentley is getting the ole lingo down. "That's way too much.......... perfect."
You could always pssst the rims black then sand top of fins “general lee style ish”
i was thinkin the same thing.
Agreed. That and he needs to black out the grill again.
Yup
darn i just said the same thing before i saw this
Where's your hard hat?
9:35 "Let's stop, collaborate, and listen" Vice is back with a brand new edition!!!
My dad had one in the late 80s. The baby blue engine paint, the primer, the fast idle handle, glow plug button.....remember it all. On super cold days we would just stuff propane torch right down its throat, no need to worry about over priming. As I recall it also had unsynchronized first gear. When the exhaust rotted away, my dad made Indy style in front of rear wheel exhaust.....it made sweet turbo sounds. It was a bulletproof truck, well except for the upstate NY salt..........RIP
Bentley: “That’s way too much...perfect.” Derek: (starts looking for a new gig). 😉
That was the best!!!
Loved that!
Kids learn quickly!!!
He's a chip off the old block
He's a chip off the old block
I liked Sasquatch giving Lil Sasquatch a hug and showing him how to do the right thing!
Honestly, the IHC Scout is the only truck I actually love.
Gas fired models, you RTV'ed up the dizzy, fashioned a fording stack out of anything you thought would work, then a feller was set for some deep sea drivin'.
After you got back to dry enough land and drove a bit, if you caught a whiff of an interesting aroma, you pulled over and popped the hood to scrape the trout off the headers and had lunch before you got to the first tavern.
And THAT'S exactly what a scout needs to be.
A full restoration on this one would be cool. I just love those rigs.
Derek, I watch how you carry yourself, how you treat your family and friends, and you make me want to be a better person, legit. Have a great weekend and thanks for all the entertainment, Cheers!
Darn near spit my coffee out when Bentley said,"Yep. That's way too much." Lol
That was incredible!!!
Loved it, a fella almost fell out of his chair
WTF is up with ur Profile pic!?!?!?
Man this thing is so sweet! I’d love to take that baby to the next level! Honestly brother, I’d make this thing a series and go all the way!
A fella just loves work. He could watch you do it for hours. It is just like hangin around a buddy's shop.
13:13 actually brought a tear to my eye. So awesome. BLEEP **** The color would be International Concord Blue **** BLOOP
Year 78-80. Paint code 6788 Lexington Blue
@@mattmillsap5251 Lexington Blue was offered on the Scout Traveller (118" WB with fibreglass top and hatchback). Concord Blue on the Scout II.
“The No Doubt Scout” is what ya call her, for when a fella wants to doubt the ole girl, You tell him she went for a trip cross country and is no doubt the most “reli-ab-le” unit you’ve had.
LED’s all around, bigger tires, & a little interior work. Mint.
It took 40 years and VGG day buffing to get the paint in such good shape. Way to go!!!!!!
Bentley learning from his dad. "That's wayyyyy too much, perfect."
Loved That!
That was perfect
LOL! So good!!!
Training well underway!
The farce is strong in that one
The best part when you're son started polishing and then you gave him a hug! Reminds me of my little one!! He fixes stuff as he says!! He is 4!! Love you're vidjoes!!!
Yeah, You gotta hug on your kids. You're not so much cleaning up an old vehicle as much as you are building memories with Bentley! And you can't a second chance to do that.
I really like this one. I'd love to see the interior get some love, and maybe just enough drive train overhaul to get her up to highway speeds. Really fun find!
"International Concord Blue" is what that appears to be. Lovely colour.
The way you love your kids is so heartening in our day and time. More power to y'all!
That Scout 2 is a rare vehicle and be worth restoring especially with that incredible blue colour. Definitely a keeper.
I gotta say, I do agree with Derek, that is a nice looking blue. That ole rig did turn out nice
I did NOT think an ol' Scuff n' Buff would work out so well. Nice work.
13:14 that hug. Woo woo moment right there!
I would definitely leave it the way it is, it just has so much character, tells a story. I would leave the rims, Old School KC lights in the brush guard. And I'd say it's perfect.
I agree keep those wheels dont see those around much. Saw a 67 dodge charger with similar wheels in Perth Western Australia. Looked amazing.
I agree, LED lights are cringe and those wheels on it just need a good polish
What a dad good job on the lil fella
Dude it looks totally awesome!! Don't send her away she needs your love, and man I love those rims just clean them up , ROCK ON!
“Restore” and keep er Derek, she’s a beautiful rig, you can’t let her go!
Yeah, a real restore. Not polishing rust.
New rubber. Upgrade the springs in the drivers chair. New windscreen. Then send her out. Get you a 1956 Dodge power wagon
Man ,,. You have a GREAT helper he knows exactly what's going on! Be proud brother, memories like that cannot be bought or replaced.
Please fix this up and make it the new family car. I couldn’t be happier that you have a scout! One of the coolest vehicles ever made!
This is a rare rig! I worked at an I H Dealership in the 70s in the Parts Department. We sold a lot of Scouts but none with the Diesel Engine. 152 and 196 4 cylinders. 304 and 345 V-8s and they even used a 232 and 258 AMC 6cyl.
Bently is his father's son. "That's way too much. Perfect."
That was the cherry on top of the episode.
@@baldwin142 I completely agree. Made me chuckle.
I've always called that color, "Swimng Pool Blue." Hope that helps... Probably not.
IH called it Medium Blue
My dad called it Donald Duck Blue back in the day in the 70's...he's from Kentucky so I just let it be....LOL
I remember the TV and radio ads with the catchy jingle - International Scout, anything less... is just a car. :)
I did the same thing to the grass around my fire pit last summer. Good way to bring a guys lawn back around during a drought.
When it isn't dripping oil usually it means you ran out.
Only with British cars.
We've had about 30 scouts over the years. My dad was a mail man and put tons of miles on them. Almost never had any leaks. If something was leaking it was completely wore out. Which wasn't often . These things were pretty bullet proof
Nope, engine was made by Nissan, not Detroit Diesel.
7:21 "that's WAY too much... Perfect." Like father like son. They say Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. ❤️
I agree you’re right when that was new I’m sure it was beautiful
I absolutely love the patina on that sweet ride, I had this vision of doing a cosmic scenes in the black, stars, galaxies and such, and use the blue for a variety of sky-lines, trees, plants, cities, vehicles, what-ever :) Been following this saga with interest, that is an awesome rig. Cheers from north of the 49th!
When there is no dripping, check fluids asap. 😉
Actually love the wheels on it now. Period perfect!
My buddy had one, here in Buffalo ny, steel dont last long....it was rusted through 2 years after he bought it!...to bad, nice lookin ride
I am so happy a guy finds a channel like this I don’t know but thank you for all your work a little 🙏😂
The name of that paint is “Concord Blue”
Lexington Blue?

Medium blue glow
@@JohnSmith-yv6eq Well, I live in Bedford MA. which is between Lexington and Concord
so I'll call it Bedford Blue.....
Ol’ Bentley really coming around as his bigger humans partner in crime. Seems like he’s really enjoying being around his dad. Great to see. Hope that lil partnership gets a polish on er too
I think he really likes this ride too. Good memories inside it.
I was waitin' for Steve Perry to start wailin' away when the music started playin'!! "Some day love will find you, break those chains that bind you........" LMAO!!!
DING DING!!
It did sound like it at one point! Then it sounded like some obscure Asia song was beginning
I thought it was really similar to “Seperate Ways” too. The music in the last few videos has been really good!
This truck has a soul! Please fix it up. Like the rear floor with the hole and all the rust underneath. I can’t wait. Thank you so much🙏🏼
My Cousin has a 1978 Blue Scout - II and he loves it, also a diesel.
Also he has a 1974 International which look so much like the Scout 2, but they look the same but the 1974 International has rounded headlights.
They both are work horses.
That little Nissan diesel sounds fantastic. Music to the ears.
Sounds like it has about double the displacement, beautiful.
Nice Find man! You can’t go wrong with a scout they are a rare ride.
Especially the Diesel.... It's under powered but more Rare so more collectable
Color is similar to Chevy 70s pickups Hawaiian Blue. From the looks of things, your assistant there is having a summer he'll never forget. Thanks for 2 Scout videos.
toilt seal wax the brown for a nice shine, and those rims are perfect, dont change em. even the tire thread is right.
That's International Turqoise Blue, a favored color back in the day.
Maybe a fella should give the ole Scout the $119 Maco paint job. If a fella is going to keep her this would really make her look sharp. Just saying. Gr8 job including the little fella as well.
This thing is Kool. New wheels but send the old ones down the road with it when it moves on. Also, I had a real-life spit take when Bentley gave the signature line. Cracked me up.
A little 2.5in lift - doll up & keep the rims, some aggressive rubber and the Lead lights and a light baar. ..oh don’t forget the fancy tripple or quadruple wiper blades (you know the one w/wings on em’) to help keep it on the ground at speed! Recover those seats. As Daddy Griswad used to say - “she’s a bute’ Clark, a real bute!” Nice find Derek!
A guy was sitting here with a few cold snacks looking for something to watch. Well, I’ll be dipped, a fella uploaded an early sneak peek for his members.
It needs all the rot repaired, full suspension, and wheels/tires. Then gift wrapped for the oldest son!!!
Hahahahaha!!!! Loved when Bentley said 'that's waaay too much.. perfect..'
MY DAD'S 1961 SCOUT WE PUT LUCAS HEAD LIGHTS IN BACK OF THE GRILLE. THEY WERE AIR PLANE LIGHTS. WE CHROMED EVER THING ON DASH, TO CUSTOMIZE IT. .DROVE IT TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY, ALOT OF FUN. JESUS LOVES YOU ❤❤❤
This particular rig is one of my favorite restorations a fellers done. Beautiful beautiful truck

Lol I was gonna say the same thing!😂😂😂
Best me to it 👊🏻

I nearly cried.
I remember asking my dad to show me how to do that. His response was similar.
I was so proud of myself that I figured out how to do it with 2 fingers lol 🥺
No I am crying..
RIP pops, we miss you .
Bought a '75 scout with that 4cyl cast iron tractor (gas)engine and a 4 spd. Paid $5,023. new.
Was one of my all time favorite cars ever. Was always fighting the rust though. And it wasn't much fun on the highway with that short wheelbase but great around town and off road. Really do miss it.
I've even had dreams about it. Needed a truck for work so I sold it in '80 for the same price I paid new.
Get some of them bovine seat covers back on this rig! PS. You're a good dad!
Its almost 5. Cold snack engaged! That membership thing... she's spicy.
That's way too much. PERFECT. The kids are already trained by the pops. LOVE IT>
So good to see you and your boy together. These are memories and skills he will have forever. Well done 👍
I really like this one. She's a goin' to town rig as she sits.
