- I found a really unique Farmall tractor that has been swapped with a chevy 350 and Gm 4 speed. It hasn't run in years so I'm going to try get it running again and actually drive it home!

A guy really likes these videos.. so I did the right thing, and clicked it right away. A guy could skip around, nope probably not, ya gotta watch ALL of the video...greeeeaaate.
Nice to see you here Hornet king! Love your channel man!!
@@allnonsensewrenching Thanks for watching! I love Derek's videos!
Maybe a short break for adult beverages
@@HornetKingOfficial I do too! I'm also very fascinated with wasps and Hornets. I have learned alot of facts from you. Thank you on many levels!

😆 Unfortuantely it never ends up to be a high performance grind.
@@davelowets Yeah they always seem to regrind themselves into no performance grind where the lift of the lob is equal to or below the base circle of the cam
Derek is the Bob Ross of modern day car repair videos! The guy is absolutly soothing with that perfect touch of humor! Keep up the amazing work!
Happy little smallblocks
Yes...!
A farmer who worked with me, build a similar tractor in the early eighties. His had an automatic transmission behind the engine. It would downshift during a hard pull. He had dual wheels on the back. Amazingly the original transmission survived plowing fields for years while running with all that power.
A feller's just gonna say it... We all love you Derek. Humour, Expertise, Entertainment, and just sheer Class. Thanks so much for making us smile ☺ 👍🏻
We watch an old fashioned fella doing a necessary old time thing. Working on your own crap, man how far we’ve fallen.... in the world after the reset guys like Derrick will be kings.
Yup I couldn't have said it better,, Plus,,,put him on TV

Nothing makes a guy happier then when he's having a cold snack and he gets a ding-a-ling saying V8 4 speed swapped tractor and who could guess it's from VGG! Love the episodes!

I sure would like to know what ever became of this old tractor. Looked like a good fixer upper.
it would haul rice in arkansas
Gotta say the guy who built it did a fine job considering all the combobbery that had to be performed for the swap! Some detail work on the wiring, and maybe some finesse on the custom hood, would clean it up nicely. Don't know why I didn't see this come up a year ago. But I sure enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing!
This is why farmers are some of my favorite people. From time to time, they engineer up some mighty fine conglomorations, such as this here jewel!
My uncle made a custom loader out of an old combine it worked like a dream
@@edisenscore1494 What! That's like making a boat out of a tricycle! How the heck did he do that?
@@randallsmerna384 he took the cab off an old combine and put one frame from the combine on top of itself and acquired some hydraulic booms and hooked them up to the bucket he then set the engine in to power the front wheels and kept the rear wheel steering it was a sight to behold
I put a 6-cylinder turbodiesel from a Volkswagen in my Nuffield tractor :) I think i posted some test runs on my channel.

An actual filtrator unit may be useful. That would help the groovage in the cylinders. You know, keep the dirt and sparrows out, that sort of thing.
Two years later now, and Bentley looks so much different! A beautiful day, and you got the top down, workin' on the farmer tan!
I swear every time i watch this guy fixing something melts all my stress away.
100% - He's really one of a kind 👌🏻
I have always stressed myself while working in my shop. I think VGG is showing me how to keep my cool, instead of throwing my wrenches against the wall.
It's kind of like when a job is fighting me and no matter what I do seems to be helping, I'll start thinking that these inanimate objects are doing it to me on purpose.
@@mcanderson3511 Not alone. This guy is a therapist,, an a whole lot cheaper than the couch type.
I wish we could talk Derek into saving a semi. That would be neat to be see him build a hauler for independence
Maybe he could go into the storied deep bushlands of British Columbia, and revive one of the forlorn/cast-off former logging rigs so often featured by the CZcamsr known as Skadill. One of those old Hayes, Pacifics, or Kenworths would seem to have more than enough grunt to tote a passenger car on their back, much like an oxpecker bird hitchin' a ride on a rhinoceros.
Wholeheartedly agree
@@QuadMochaMatti I k k
He WILL need a car-hauler soon, at this rate.
One of them old rounderish hood/fender Mack would make A Guy a pretty slick hauler.. Late 60's variiety maybe?

Theres sketchy, and then there's 30 MPH on those tires! A feller's braver than I would have thought! Thanks for sharing! 🇨🇦
Thsts what I was thinking, that tractor factory up and running great would do about 15mph. I'm not sure how fast it would go in od on both transmissions, but its a safe bet that it would be way faster than the tires and axel bearings can safely operate.
You fellars musta missed the tyre kick which checked the precision balancing for optimal wheel spinnage. VGG certified for all the beans.
@@codylapoint I was thinking about those bearings!! Thinking they are probably pretty HOT going that fast.
@@codylapoint The four speed up front still only has a 1:1 final drive in fourth, so it can only slow 'er down, not speed it up...the extra RPMs from the 350 would give a speed boost, though. The old H motors were 1650 RPM, pretty sure that 350 can turn a bit more. :-D
@@lonewolfworks Road gear on an H is pretty scary with that narrow front, sloppy steering and mechanical brake linkage. I usually stayed in 4th, mine jumped out of 5th anyway.

Im dying im laughing so. Hard
What a great combination: Farmall + Chevy V8. I learned to drive a tractor on dad's '46 H back in the '50s. Spent a lot of time riding that old horse, plus his M and 450. They were a very reliable and versatile tractor. Grandpa and my uncles all had an H at one time. Today I own a 1948 H with a Heisler 9-speed (overdrive); works like a charm. Well, I hope you have it purring like a kitten and doing "hold-shots". Thanks for the ride.
Brought back some great memories! A guy I worked for at a machine shop took an F20 rear end and hooked a big block chevy motor and a big automatic trans. It would go from a creep to like really fast. It had headers that looked like yours! Fun!!
"You don't need em all right, that's why there's eight" LOL You come up with something new every time!

The drive home was one of the most action packed, epic drives I've ever witnessed.
A guy might get jealous.
A feller found that there was sooo much content in this odyssey, that he had to give his think box and his peepers a rest a few times and break it down into bite-size pieces to chomp on, or to make it easier to pick up what a guy was laying down. All-in-all, it was a most enjoyable viewing experience - Glad to see you made it back safely and intact!

What video did you see 13.7 years ago?
\🇧🇳🇨🇲🇬🇷
Derek, if you can pull together a video on reading plugs that would be pretty cool.
He mentioned it in one of them and if I’m not mistaken I think it was the one where he worked on the v8 snow mobile. Maybe I’m wrong though!
It's very simple to read spark plugs mini videos on the internet on it
If you can find a good book for auto repair and maintenance from the 1970s or some better shop manuals they'll have good guides on reading plugs. Better if it has color photos. Often the black and white photos or worse the two color illustrations are difficult to get a feel for it from, but sadly that's most of the books and shop manuals. Someone might have something decent on the interwebs. It's a matrix of photos of plugs in different conditions with a description of what each one means.
@drivecam101 I remember every Haynes manual always had a color plug reading chart on the inside face of the back cover.
I had an old Hanes manual for my 76 Honda Civic back in '84 and it had a color section on reading plugs... Never quite knew back then how important it was but I do recall it.
I forgot how funny this episode was, had to watch it again. Good Job Mr.
That's a really cool Tractor Derek I'm glad you got it home safe.
A perfect video Derek, the only thing missing was the Green Acres theme song while you were riding home, LOL!
I loved that show and I live in Australia was on when I was a little fella
My grandfather had one of these. His dad bought it for him as a "welcome home from the war" gift. I got to drive it when he used it as a pipe trailer. Super awesome.

When you're riding past the fields does the tractor think I would plow that?
Yeah, if only inanimate objects could think. 😲
Well I’ll be dipped!! At around the 13:00 mark I spied an older John Deere pedal tractor up on a shelf behind Derek. Both parents worked for Deere and I had one just like it instead of a trike. Loved that thing and literally wore the tires off of it. Have always wished I could find one again. So great to see one. That has to be from the early 60’s.
“Derek, the old American engine whisperer”.
I like the way he diagnoses just by listening for what the noises are, where from, what’s the quality of sound & possible meanings.
In my own small way, I’m like that with Japanese multi cylinder two cycle bike engines, and there’s a surprisingly long list of stuff that can go wrong with them, despite the low number of moving parts.
I’m over fussy, and looking back, I don’t think that’s been a good call at all.
So, watching Derek’s entire attitude to things is refreshing.
“Good enough for the girls we date” is my favourite. Wonder if he says that within arm swinging distance of Jessica?
Hey Derek, that gray paste you found in the sediment bowl - that's the result of ethanol fuel and whatever type of pot metal they used to make the sediment bowl housing. It more/less starts dissolving it. Will plug a fuel system up solid.
Thanks. I found something similar recently, but thought something rubber was coming apart. I'll have to look in the tank to see what's being destroyed.

Been there, done that. I'm 65 so I'm talking a long time ago, '67 through '70 we built 3 F20's with SBC. G'grandfathers abandoned equipment that had sat since before my dad was 10 yrs old-25 plus yrs. A days cutting trees that grew through and in front of them, we pulled each 21 miles from that farm to ours on round-about rock roads. Wasn't nearly as much work to do fitting in an F20 as your builder had to do. Partial adapter plate on the bell housing, spines on the flywheel, mounts, and the longest fan shroud you'd ever see. Two 283 and one 327, last two sold before we even began building. Small town parades, small town fairs where they'd have antique tractor pulls- these as exhibition. This is only the 2nd vid of yours I've watched, will be going to the oldest and making my way to now-but being a ford/mopar guy I'll skip some gm stuff.
I drove my first 8N home a similar distance. The camera fails to convey how terrifying a tractor is at any type of speed! I wore a wide rimmed hat and still got sunburned and almost heat stroke! Thanks for sharing Derek. Now I'm thinking about the split 8N on marketplace with it's engine in pieces! How about a TBi vortec V6 8N?
