- How to deal with a boss with one of the largest health pools in the game? Nuke him with a few well placed lightnings.
Important Build elements:
Party level 9
Kria:
5 Warlock / 4 Barbarian
Basically just a water-girl in this scenario
Throws water on Myrkul to get him wet - makes him take double damage from lightning sources
Extra attack to lure Myrkul's legendary action and deal a bit more damage
Shadowheart:
9 Cleric - Tempest Domain
Tempest domain gives her access to Call Lightning ability on level 5 - high damage level 3 AOE spell, you can call it again without spending a spell slot.
Tempest Cleric has access to Destructive Wrath - as a reaction, you can cause a lightning source to deal maximum damage. You gain 2 uses on Cleric level 6.
Wyll:
7 Sorcerer - Draconic (Blue)
2 Cleric - Tempest Domain
Two levels in Tempest Domain give 1 charge of Destructive Wrath (see Shadowheart)
Level 5 Sorc gives access to Haste and Lightning Bolt
Level 6 Draconic grants bonus damage to affiliated damage source (in this case, Lightning)
Minthara: (even though she didn't even get a turn)
5 Paladin / 4 War Cleric
This combination gives three extra Level 3 Spell slots compared to pure Pally
War Cleric gives War Priest Charges - after making an attack, you can spend a charge + bonus action to make an additional attack, allowing for up to 3 attacks (with Smite) per turn.
Pre-battle preparations
I ungroupped Wyll and Shadowheart and kept them outside the conversation - this way, they don't enter the battle immediately, I could use Haste outside of battle, and enter the battle with refreshed actions. I messed up with Shadowheart - as she was not in the battle, Haste expired so I used potion of speed. (That was probably not even necessary in the end)
I also convinced Ketheric to "repent", so I didn't have to fight him in the first phase.
Chapters:
0:00 Apostle's entrance
1:39 The battle
3:30 Outro - Hry
You've just saved my run, I'm so grateful.
Nicely done, Gaming Birch! Could you please elaborate on the build for shadowheart and wyll? I'm assuming those are the only two essential builds here. Also, how did you make two call lightning attacks with shart before drinking the potion of speed and attacking again? Thanks for the guide!
Hello, thanks for the compliment :)
It's been a while, so I don't remember the details, but these are the essentials:
Shadowheart was a pure cleric, but respec'd to Tempest domain.
That gives her access to Call Lightning and two charges of Destructive Wrath.
I kept her ungrouped and hidden, so the first attack was made out of combat. I am not sure why, but the action was refunded when she entered combat, which allowed her to cast another Lightning.
As far as I remember she didn't have any important gear.
Wyll was 7 Sorc / 2 Cleric, also Tempest Domain, which have him 1 charge of Destructive Wrath.
I don't remember his gear.
Basically the essential parts were getting Myrkul wet, to ensure double damage from Lightning, and the Destructive Wrath charges, which ensure maximum Lightning damage for a spell.
Would this still work if I didn’t kill Aylin and snuck a character in to free her before brining the damage dealers in?
I do this, but slightly different.
Storm sorc/tempest cleric multiclass
wet, use lightning. Have lightning charges
use destructive wrath, and luck of the far realms together.
it'll do him in one hit --
Oooh, I keep forgetting that works for spells too!
Though I guess you did it on balanced?
I can see how you deal 245 damage (balanced HP) in one hit, but I don't see how you can do 390 (Honour)
@@GamingBirch I play balanced yeah. Wet makes him vulnerable to lightning, so double damage, add destructive wrath+lfr and it's a crit. So max damage doubled iirc.
@@GamingBirch it's broken lmao.
i’m currently level 8 on my tactician run do I have to be level 9 to make this build?
Probably not necessary, you get Call Lightning and Lightning Bolt spells on level 5 of their respective classes. You won't have a level 5 spell slots, so the spells will deal a bit less damage, but as you saw, I had more than enough and one of my party members didn't even get a turn.
Gaming Birch, I wish I saw this before I went down the hole... lol😅
Well... maybe next time :D
Same, I just lost mt honor mode run to this D-bag and his never ending healing supply and frightens. Also how exactly do you get Ketheric to repent? I've done it before but this time I didn't get the option so I'm prerty surr that's why I died since i used up some strong spells already
@LilDaddySNK when you face him on the tower there's a dialogue option (not sure what) it sets up another dialogue option pre Myrkul
@@LilDaddySNK Also *_spoilers_* you need to find a letter from his wife in his chambers and refer her during the first confrontation on the roof.
@@GamingBirch thank you i always skip those other rooms aside from balthazaar's
Tried this and am unable to throw water on the apostle. "Invalid Target", PS5. :-(
Hm... interesting...
No idea why that is. It's a bit of gamble, but maybe try to throw it next to him, and hope the area is wide enough to cover him. That's the best I can think of atm.
@@GamingBirch I managed to get it done by casting the water as a spell instead. Thanks so much for the helpful video, sincerely!
That was a tough fight! (Only on tactician, but still, is a toughie!)
Thanks ☺️
patch 6 myrkul?
Yes. Is something different? I didn't get to fight him in Honour on patch 5, so I don't know.
@@GamingBirchI’m pretty sure they just added extra legendary actions to a lot of boss encounters
@@_MrKEBAB So according to the patch notes and this video czcams.com/video/MtiEEoeSUzc/video.html
Patch 6 gives him:
More AC
More HP
Magis Plate passive that reduces 2 damage from all damage instances
Some fixes to his Legendary action
@@GamingBirch there was absolutely no reason to make him HARDER, he was already a pain in the ass to kill
Wait, so the "Wet" condition will override his resistance to cold or something? Because by default, he has cold resistance.
If an enemy is resistant to cold/lightning, getting the Wet mean the resistance and vulnerability cancel each other out, so the enemy takes normal damage.
Fortunately he is not resistant to lightning, so getting him Wet makes him take double Lightning damage.
@@GamingBirchI see. I mistook his cold resistance with wet resistance LOL
@@GamingBirchSince he doesn't have fire resistance so I'm about to try making him vulnerable to fire (with weapon coat) and throw fire dmg at him as 4 Element Monk. Hope it will work in honour mode LOL
