When I first started in 8th edition, your painting tutorials actually helped me out a lot. It was high end results with minimal effort. As I improved over the years I always found myself getting carried away, and while the results would come out great, I always grew frustrated with the steps. When this happens I often come back to your videos and follow along with a basic troop to ground myself because I start doing any fancy blending or glow effects. Thank you for providing this content for us, and I hope one day you find it in yourself to return to these painting videos more often.
well, i am glad that my videos are helpfull and you get alot out of them :) happy painting
Not a lot of newer tutorials on World Eaters, so I've got to make due with this one from 7 years ago! It definitely holds up, great looking model and you made it look easy. Nice job!
Really like the red painting, I found this tricky when I first starting painting minis again, and fresh explanation is always welcome, thank you very much
I hate when people rip on your voice, alexandra.
Its so fucking disrespectful.
p.s. You're an excellent painter! Subbed!
Thanks for the great guide. I just decided to start repainting my entire World Eater collection I started when I just got into the hobby. Definatly following your tips, though I may go for a slightly darker shade of red, this was super helpful.
FREAKEN AWSOME! my minis came out great, the khrone beserkers are one of my favorite units and now i have an amazing guide to help me, great vid( like always) =)
I love the way you do all your marines, you dont hardline anything, looks a lot more natural, good job! :)
This model is a stunner. Youve done it again Alexandra!
I really enjoy ur videos and see them as inspirational source
Thanks for making this I was trying to think of how to go about a paint setup for when I make a khorne themed chaos army and I love the way this turned out with the red. Ill have to try it on one of the chaos space marines I have from the three pack box
Another great video tutorial. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic tutorial as always. Thank you Alexandra
thanks! this vid helped a lot with my first batch of Skull Takers Legion Chaos Space Marines
Fantastic tutorial, a real joy to watch.
Excellent tutorial Alexandra! I really enjoyed watching how you were blending the red on the armour. So many people will learn from this vid, just like all the rest of yours!
Cat
Very nice. I am going to try this technique on my chaos marines, except in orange. Thanks for posting this.
Something about red and gold that rocks, beautiful paint job there!
I just painted my first khorn berzerker and it looked FRIGGIN AWESOME!!! Thanks SOOOOOOO MUCH!!
Very nice contrast and I like your layering technique!! It looks very three dimensional. I hope I can get a good technique like yours :)
You truly are a master.
Your videos are fantastic!
i tried out with a black primer and with some different colours, and it worked out for me, but your video helped me with how to make good highlights and choosing some of the colours. Thanks.
Really nice red tutorial. I tend to start my reds with dark flesh and move up in a brown/red tone. I like your method as well. You made the angry bunny marine look very sinister. Well done. ;)
Really nice space marine!!
Yes, this is the point of thinning your paints. The water will allow the paint to "lay down" or smooth itself out better. This will prevent brush strokes from showing and will help to prevent the details from being filled in.
love the vid as always
just what i was looking for, tyvm :)
Thanks for pointing out how you paint the blood red in an upwards motion. I didnt even think about that...
Thanks a lot for this tutorial, I just recently finished a squad of khorne berserkers using this method.
wow real beautiful work, thanks for sharing
This model has a very classic feel to it with the method of shading involved. If you look at one of the old boxes for Khorne Berserkers you can see the very dynamic highlighting. I can't say it's for me because it seems to suggest VERY deep shadows and the armour doesn't have a solid colour to it. However, the paintjob is still top notch! As always, I love your work Alexandra!
I like watching you paint.. I find it interesting. :) Thanks . . . :P
Nice work!
Thanks alot you helped me get better at painting my models..for i am only a nooby begginer...
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD, SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE
you just made my life so much easier i was doing all of this the hard way.
She already painted one during a live video if I remember correctly. The video has a lower quality, but that's only the video quality. :) Alexandra, by the way ypur work is nothing but quality :)
Really good explication for the blending!
Im painting some space marine motorbike, so i going to probe a watch what happen.
BEST TUTORIAL EVER
That helped me.Thanks.
I'd like to see you paint my favorite chapter, Thousand Sons!
i don't know why people don't like her or even threaten her with devious messages. I find her quite funny she reminds me of Mrs Doubtfire XD
Go to dakkadakka . com / wiki, click on articles, search for Paint range chart, and click on the first link for the Paint Range Compatibility Chart. It will tell you the new names for the Citadel Range as well as comparable colors from Reaper, Vallejo(both Model air and Game color), Rackham, P3 and a few others. It also tells you the Hex code.
Not sure about the thumbs down again..what's not to like??? It was Another great Vid, you did a great job explaining how the layering worked and the camera likewise picked up the effect as well. Thank you.
In my opinion that looks better than a real khorne berserker because of the terrible old models. Thanks for the great tutorial!
Thanks for the Awesome tutorial :)
If you wanted smoother transitions in the highlights would you simply apply more coats of paint that have less contrast using the same layering technique or would you use something els like selective glazing or wet blending ?
That helmet makes me want to make a joke marine... A unit of bezerkers with that head and with bunny ears... I would name the unit Khorne Bunnyers."
Alexandra, a big fan of your tutorials! (They helped transform my models from mixed berries to tabletop miniature level) after the new chaos marines codex came and word bearers got a newish colour scheme, mind having a look doing a tutorial on it please?
you make it look so easy to paint in layers..
wow you're amazing
@GirlPainting Thanks! :) also, did you water down the wash? mine seemed to leave some areas darker even when they were in the middle of the shoulder pad. It could just be me though, will keep trying! Thanks for your help :)
Very nice tutorial on how to paint a rich red tone. Red paintjobs are really difficult to get right.
so much better than me goddamn gimme some of your talent
this is fantastic, thanks! its been 7 years since i last painted and iv hundreds of old marines to practice on before i begin my 12,500 point chaos army :) i had no idea how many paints were required! iv subbed you and look forward to watching the rest of your vids. how do you measure your paint/water ratio? using a syringe or pippet or by eye? great vid
I think I will just paint some dark worn down looking gold onto the model straight after the nuln oil wash at the start. It looks so awesome and ancient
I have just finished the stage where you do a 50/50 mix of scab red and blood red and im happy with that color. I will highlight with blood red around the rims later but first i was wondering, i want to wash the model again with black ink as i have painted over some recesses and vents etc. If i wash the model again will it effect the current color scheme before i go onto highlight??
Do you use any kind of paint thinner? When I try to thin my paints they sometimes are still too thick to flow good or ether pool badly. I can't seem to get a good ratio of water/paint.
Guess I should get a new brush too.
Thanks for the tutorial, will be a great help for me as I'm trying to paint a crimson red colour for my guardmen. Though I have undercoated them in chaos black. Will this really have a big impact on the quality? Thanks again :)
hey, i follow yourvideos all the time alexandra :) i wanna ask two questions, is it ok if i use dawnstone (codex gray) instead of a base primer like abbadon black (chaos black) and white scar (skull white)?
i dont really want the paint to chip off later on, thats why i am asking, and by the way.. how do you use your Dihydrogenmonoxide? thank you!
Great tutorial. I'm hoping to replicate the technique you've used for the red and I'm curious about your application of baddab black wash. Is it watered down at all, or straight from the pot?
This is quite a proficient tutorial. It helped me a lot with my Khorne Beserkers and also helped with a good basecoat for my word bearers. Thanks :) BTW what nationality are you?
I want to start painting mini's too and I've looked at many of your videos to get a sense of how this works. But as for the paints you use I could use a little direction. Are these Citadel or Vallejo paints? I can't find these names when I search the websites for both producers. If they have changed the names on them could I possibly trouble you to update the color names to the right ones so I can order them as soon as possible? thanks in advance!
thank you so much for you videos, i learned much of you!
do you have an idea how i should paint power weapons?
sorry for my bad english :)
greets from germany,
sugar
idk if its ovbious but im kinda newbie so, how do u start with grey prime, do u just paint it on the miniature or u buy the gray spray somewhere? ive found some gray spray primer but i dont trust it to be really thin and it might kill the details since its not specially made for miniatures (maybe i should just use white prime color), oh and where did u get that miniature holder from? it must be cool :D
@GirlPainting In high quantities it can actually cause poisoning, but it's actually quite non-lethal for the most part.
you should make a video where you show us your chaos marines
Do you change techniques for models you want to paint to competition standard?
would you consider doing a tutorial for a stand alone characer to competition standard?
Haha, I've just done my first Khorne Berserker using your guide! I made a few mistakes, but I'm a beginner at painting, only been doing it for a few days! Thanks very much for your guide! I'm currently having a few problems getting the paint transition, the paints still look very separate. More like block colours than a transition, do I have to much water in my paint, or too little? :) Thanks again for the guide!
@GirlPainting what you mean by grey primer?is it the grey plastic itself or paint it with grey?
oh great, and one more thing, will it chip off if i wash the primer with a VERY little bit of water? is it ok if i add water to the primer? thank you!
If they are the new citadel paints...most of them have to be shaken very well before use...they seem to separate quiet a bit
How much badab oil (Nuln Oil) are you using on your wash? Just enough to provide even coverage and thats it? My model isnt coming out as uniform as yours.
What ratio of Tin Bitz, Dwarf Brone and Shinning Gold did you use for the gold trim?
will the paint seem smoother on the model if you put water in it?
'eavy metal is recruiting you know!
@Azartusfar
She said at the start of the video that it's done with a grey primer :)
what if i use a white primer? Awesome painting btw
@GirlPainting people dislike videos randomly to feel cool, especially if its a subject or hobby they dont like, they think they will get recognition for it but they dont, if they wanted attention they would comment...but then they would get slaughtered by us haha.
great vid!
@GirlPainting Is that Uniform Grey or Wolf Grey?
So Dihydrogenmonoxide is just water then? Water to dilute the paint is that it?
I like how you put "dihydrogenmonoxide" instead of "water" in the video description ;)
Aarrgghh painting red. Too many layers for me. But thanks for the gold-recipe - looks perfect for chaos marines :)
can i do this exacly same with blue colours on spacemarines?
i can't get the scab red / blood red mix "what you call crimson gore " thinned the same as yours looks, when applied and dry it is too bright, i have tried thinning with water, acrylic airbrush paint reducer, even citadel lahmian medium with no sucess. thinning too much with water makes the paint look somewhat pink.
then add a little bit more of scab red
Excellent blending tutorial!! thank you.
Which colour primer did you use?
Do you use Citadel paints?
im confused ive started wargamin resently when u say u wash down a color what do u do to it
It looks great! But, I do something else. I am not much of a fan of orange being the highlight of red. It never seemed right to me. I know people might not like a dark basecoat, but gore red or scab red is my basecoat. Then I airbrush blood red or blood red/gore red from above. Then airbrush Dark Flesh from underneath. Simple, but I like it. :P
Did you do a thousand suns one?
@GirlPainting after scab-red with blood red ,when you apply the blood red also water down, is 50%-50% bloodred and water? i dont see very well the colour in video but is possible the colour that i make is like orange? thnksss Alexandra. good Workkk¡¡¡¡¡
Awesome job, how much Water do you Mix in?
+Nicolai Mogensen drop wise untill i am sattisfied. one, sometimes 2 or 3
Wo kann ich diesen grauen primer bekommen? Oder gibt es alternativen? Wie wärs mit „Army Painter - Uniformgrey?"
what if i use a black primer?
yes you're right
Great tutorial! Thank you!
@GirlPainting Every video on youtube has at least 3 dislikes. I think it is because there are brats out there who think they are being funny or unique.
Great video as usual, I've started painting in the eyes of all my old SM (blue eyes though), and I think it's a huge difference in my army.
@GirlPainting Thanks. Great tutorials.
Verstehe ich richtig, dass du verdünnte Tinte benutzt?
