I’ve been an avid player of Final Fantasy 11 since 2006. It’s my go to game, I’ve always admired the way this game has proceeded over the many years it has been going, I hope that with New people and the team around a new producer, the game May go down, hopefully the same route as 14, and maybe looking to the future playable on PlayStation 5. I hope that this game never stops I and maybe thousands of others who have built up their characters over the past few decades will never be let down long live FF 11

Been missing the stream a lot lately, but still love the great videos you put out. Luckily there is still a ton of content to do in retail for the majority of the players base. I'd guess .000001% has completed v25 ody and .001% has defeated Aminon.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. Imho it’s hard to hear this as anything but a buttered up roll-down. That said, I do think the team is committed to finishing in-flight content. We’ve never truly seen a mainline FF reach “end of life”, and since this team has shown far more commitment & resiliency than other old MMOs already I’m not entirely inclined to write them off yet….
That said, if they do anything else after wrapping VR and Primes I would prefer they devote resources to PRESERVATION. This would include, obviously, some kind of bundled/easy/official “local server” version, as well as perhaps the further evolution of modern end game to support as much solo-ability as possible (such as more atmacite type systems, more event specific armor like what you can farm for DI…etc).
Alternately or in addition, I could envision some kind of hub/room based multiplayer being feasible as a way to preserve small group-based multiplayer with little/no ongoing developer overhead (like the way Jedi Knight or Diablo 2 used to work). This could be developer or even fan based. Assuming you have a local host version then all you REALLY need from there is an organized forum.
My main point is that preservation is key with online games, more especially a bonafide Final Fantasy title, and I think both devs and players need to address the reality that a perpetual SE-run server infrastructure is simply not possible as a way to preserve this game for future generations.
Some of his comments about transitioning to modern tech at least keep me hopeful about this vision….

The optimistic view is scaling back content creation to change the hardware to enable long term sustainability and easier content creation.
The pessimistic view is cruise control and hardware replacement is as good as it gets.
Hopefully it's in the middle. But I hope the POL Viewer gets axed and registration process gets streamlined. That part of Horizonxi has shown that the barrier to entry is what stops people from joining.

To be honest it's not that difficult, I'm a new player who started today, it took me like 15-20 mins to make an account and get in to the game on top of fixing the resolution and setting up a game pad, now I understand alot of people would immediately be turned off and never pick it up again, so a new launcher that's as simple as click and play and a release on a new platform such as next gen would cyphon in more players, but I don't see why they would do that when they have ffxiv, I think ffxi will remain for those who currently play and once they stop which they will some day, the servers will be shut. But what they could also do is take a wow approach to it, release the game again as a merged sub with ffxiv, bring it back to the 75 era, but keep the pacing the same as it currently is, make it so you can use trusts but only make them viable for certain zones so you have your solo play zones and then your group zones as part of the leveling experience, streamline the game so that when someone starts they have a fair idea of where to go and what to do, I got lucky and had a mentor spend over an hour helping me get my trusts and apparently he's doing this on a daily basis on asura

I'm a new player who came to retail from horizonxi, I played as a kid but did fuck all in the game but remembered having alot of fun in my short time, horizonxi allowed me to relive that and see what the game is actually about and it still does, but I'm also playing retail as of recently too, i think the game is actually in a great state for someone who doesn't have all the time in the world, its nice to be able to level up solo, obviously it would be nice if this wasn't for like 99% of the game as far as I can tell, for someone that plays ffxiv I honestly feel like I just have a much better time in ffxi, on retail and on the classic server, but also PoL isn't even that hard to set up, I didn't use a guide or anything, its not as simple as horizon but it's not as hard as people make it out to be, I'm not even good at this sort of thing and I figured it out easily enough

i'll be honest, i'm on the fence with this one, i played through ROV > VR, and was still enjoyable, but now to see the team downgrading, longer maintenance and minor updates for the next year, if VR ends up being no exciting new content to go in (we don't know yet) then i may take some of 2023 off until we see something in the works. I'm starting to get burned out with nothing but long running in sortie, repeated dynamis omen and oddesey for the last year to 6 years. I wouldnt be suprised if people are feeling the same. So seeing this years roadmap felt a little bit of a downer. We'll see i guess

People probably have a "doomer" mindset because the game's essentially gonna be put into maintenance mode. I don't really play 11 anymore cuz I really couldn't get back into retail and I hope it keeps going, but maintenance mode doesn't usually bode well.

@@jeremycampbell4021 In 2015, SE announced FFXi was going into maintenance mode on PC while retiring the console versions. That's not whats being announced here. @CallMeKwech I think what's frustrating is SE has been burning so much capital on failed products it feels so wrong to see XI seemingly struggle for a budget. It also bothers me a game with this legacy is a "dead end". I said on another youtube video it's a problem to with Square Enix's company culture of working on a crown jewel of the genre, especially for japan, 20 years later is a bad thing.

  • @adventuresoftigtourettesin5885

Maybe it will come to ps5 and series x

  • @shawnasbeaniebabiesadventu7562

I've been playing FFXI since 2006, and dedicated countless hours to my taru and Vana'diel. And to this day, I still can't say I've "beaten" the game. Which is mind blowing. You can take a different route, every time you pick it up, and still play new content.
It's also one of the few games that heavily relys on team work and knowledge. You can't dlc or p2p your way out of Kirin. It has created an incredibly dedicated and knowledgeable community. That has not only survived this long, but continues to return after all of these years.
I feel like I'm never quite sure what SE has in store next. But I know we'll always have more to do! 😂 Here's to 20 more years!

was fun game back in the days, suprised servers are still running lol.... beside endgame, it is more of an offline game now with trust npc's, can be fun if u didnt play it long time but for average people it is time to let it go, there are better games to waste your time on ^^' there wont be any worthwhile uptades anymore anyways.... just very minor stuff and boring endgame changes like ambus recycle and go gather 1000 mats more to upgrade your weapon, meh...

@@CallMekwech You did a good job providing a logical alternative theory. That said, I think it’s a toss up. I think I read comments from Yoshi P regarding how FFXI devs are losing out on career opportunities due to the declining nature of the game. This is alluded to in the comments by Matsui. It sounds reasonable that the staff and development capacity is being cut for dual reasons. 1. FFXI devs (and SE) are better served on other (more lucrative) projects 2. The game no longer justifies the resource. FFXI can’t realistically be a better game with fewer resources, so perhaps this was an effort to prolong an inevitability that I can’t see being more than 3-5 years off. XI would need a major overhaul to stay alive. I don’t see how it’s possible without more devs, not less. We’ll see though. To your point, this vibe happened at Adoulin and RoV.
