    For sale in our Chicago showroom is a very scarce 1967 Chrysler Crown Imperial Coupe. These old Mopar coupes are very hard to come across but this one has some very unique features that I think you will enjoy. Beginning in 1966 with an executive show car Chrysler introduced the Mobile Director package on the 2-door Crown Imperial coupes only and it began production for only 2 years ending in 1968. With a cost of just under $600 that would adjust to over $4,000 in 2016 dollars it was not popular amongst the masses and very few are known to exist today.
    The Mobile Director Package was designed to allow for a "mobile office" with a front bucket passenger seat that swiveled a full 180 degrees and faced an adjustable desk that allowed for meetings or your secretary to type and take dictation. A "goose neck" high intensity light allowed for night time reading of all of those important documents or the Wall Street Journal while enjoying a cup of coffee in air conditioned comfort and how "Mad Men" is that. When not being driven with your secretary you could enjoy the full luxuries of a heavily optioned coupe.
    This car has a very interesting history being purchased from a Navy Commander in the 1970's and placed in climate controlled storage. The car is believed to be mostly original and recent service includes new brake shoes and pads, master and wheel cylinders, brake hoses, differential and transmission seals, new tires, Air Conditioning compressor and receiver dryer replaced and a tune up and carburetor overhaul. One rare feature is the factory front disc brakes that are noted by script on the pedal itself and allowed for precise braking and was rather innovative for 1967.
    Under the hood you will see the original 440 Cubic Inch V8 that starts up immediately and runs fantastic. The 3 speed Tourqueflite transmission shifts very smooth and makes driving very comfortable. Options on this car include Imperial turbine wheel covers, black vinyl top, leather interior with chrome accents, wood grain inserts, power windows, power locks, sentinel headlights, rear heat, window lock, push button temperature control, AM/FM radio, tilt/telescoping wheel, power antenna and rear speaker.

    I own one of these, doesn't have the swivel passenger seat and desk, but a very nice car. I just bought it last October and am the 3rd owner. I'm in California and this car spent 99 percent of it's life in California and Nevada so no rust.

    Nice car. Front seats appear to be redone in vinyl though. Back seat has a few creases in the leather, but drivers seat is perfectly smooth. Leather creases. Vinyl stays flat and smooth. Someone did a nice job on it though. Overall real nice car.

    To Chicago Classic Cars, Thank you for filming this amazing car. My Grandfather (VP of Chrysler) somehow knew I would love this automobile, and I was 2 years old in 1967 when it was delivered to our house in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. My Grandfather got (for me) a light blue convertible Even as the years passed, I knew my Grandfather had picked out the perfect car. I'd spend hours in the car imagining the car when I turned 16 Fast forward to 1975 and my father had sold my car. Divorce takes no prisoners. Although the car shown is a Imperial Coupe, and in a different color, I tear up looking at the Imperial. I'm still looking for a 1967 Imperial Convertible, they are very rare to find, let a lone one in near perfect condition. I saw one (in the same light blue at Petersons in Los Angeles- and it looks like the car my grandfather left for me once I turned 16.Who knows. I'm on the look out for the Imperial convertible. I've seen only 3 in Southern California and they all needed $15 K to $ 35 K to restore. I sincerely thank you for filming a wonderful car !

    My grandfather had a 1966 Imperial Le Baron, I believe a sedan. Now, he called it a CHRYSLER Imperial, which was wrong, but that was how I knew it, I was 12. Grand car! Power everything, 440 engine, auto trans, and a dual evaporator A/C system that you could use to age meat. He bought it in 1967, it was a demonstrator model and was driven by the dealer GM or owner, so it was near new in condition. He had that car until he passed in November, 1971. What a land yacht.

    Wanna know if the Imperial was a Chrysler or not ? Check the VIN numbers
    . All "Chryslers" ( New Yorker, 300, Windsor, ETC.) used a "C"under the
    "make" identification . Imperial models ( Custom, Crown, Ghia Limos ,
    and LeBaron) did NOT use a "C" . They used a "Y" under THEIR "make "
    code. If the Imperial was indeed a "Chrysler" , it TOO would have had a
    "C" make code....thus the IMPERIAL was NOT a Chrysler, but a SEPARATE
    MAKE.

  • @williamg2552
    @williamg2552 Před 6 lety +4

    Not a "Chrysler". IMPERIAL was it's OWN make/brand/division. The "Chrysler" name appears NOWHERE on this car...nor was it MARKETED or VINNED as a "Chrysler". (Check the VIN number. If you see the letter "C" as the "make"code, then it's a "Chrysler").
    ...But, you WON'T . IMPERIAL was registered as a separate make in and of ITSELF in 1955. IMPERIAL carries a "make" code of "Y"...meaning that it was NOT a "Chrysler" ...but a SEPARATE MAKE....no matter WHAT people may tell you to the CONTRARY.

    This car is NOT a "Chrysler" Imperial. It is an IMPERIAL, plain and simple. The IMPERIAL was SPUN OFF of the Chrysler Division Car line ...and became it's OWN MAKE and DIVISION in 1955. You will NOT see the "Chrysler" name ANYWHERE on this car....nor was it advertised as such in ANY TV, newspaper, or magazine ads of the period. The "MAKE" is IMPERIAL. The MODEL is "CROWN" .

    • @EnchantmentOfTheSea1
      @EnchantmentOfTheSea1 Před 6 lety

      You are correct, but Chrysler did not spin the Imperial into another company. Like GE, there's the Chevy division, the Buick division, and so on. My Grandfather was VP of Chrysler and he was driven ( pictures and family stories) and the Imperial was used for the Chrysler senior management

    • @williamg2552
      @williamg2552 Před 6 lety +1

      Let's just say , for the sake of argument, that you are right, and that the Imperial was made by the same division as Chrysler.
      Have you ever heard of Ford Motor Company's LINCOLN-MERCURY DIVISION ?
      One Division made both cars, yet the Lincoln was NOT a Mercury, nor was the Mercury a Lincoln. TWO SEPARATE MAKES.
      There is far more proof that the Imperial was SPUN OFF from Chrysler , than there is that it REMAINED a Chrysler. See for yourself: go to Google, and enter these words: "IMPERIAL- SEPARATE MAKE , 1955.
      See just how many hits you'll get.

      C H R S L E R C O R P O R A T I O N, , I M P E R I A L D E V I S I O N, so you were incorrect, since "Chrysler" is plainly listed at the bottom of the print add. However, I think I might see what you're trying to say: Like Cadillac, it is a division of General Motors. Oh, look up Mopar on Wikipedia . Mopar, Plymouth, Dodge, Imperial were all part of the once great Chrysler Corporation.

    • @williamg2552
      @williamg2552 Před 6 lety

      Exactly.
      1) Again, check the VIN numbers. All Chryslers have a "C" under the code for "make". IMPERIAL does NOT, It has a "Y".
      If it were indeed a Chrysler, it would have a "C" , like all other Chrysler Division cars, but Imperial does not, because it is not a Chrysler.
      2) All Chrysler Corporation car Divisions will say The Division name; I.E, "Plymouth Division, Chrysler Corporation, or "Dodge Division, Chrysler Corporation" or "Desoto Division, Chrysler Corporation".
      That doesn't make these cars Chryslers, because Chryslers are products of the "Chrysler Division", of Chrysler Corporation. The other cars are products of their OWN respective divisions of Mopar (Chrysler Corp.)
      NONE of these cars , except Chryslers themselves, bear the "Chrysler" nameplate. The other cars bear the name of their own respective divisions . They are "Dodge". not "Chrysler Dodge" , etc.
      IMPERIAL was once a product of the Chrysler Division. However, in 1955, for the first time , IMPERIAL was no longer a Chrysler, because it was spun off into it's OWN division. Thus , it was no longer a model of Chrysler. It ceased being a MODEL , and became a MAKE, apart from the Chrysler brand.
      Chrysler Execs made this decision because, while the IMPERIAL was an all-out luxury car, every bit as good as it's competitors,it, sadly began to share the "Chrysler" name with lower-priced , non luxury cars. The Imperial was perceived as "Not as good" as it's luxury market competitors, Cadillac and Lincoln, because it bore the medium-priced "Chrysler" name. So, Imperial became it's OWN make, with it's OWN models, The CUSTOM, The CROWN, and the top-of-the-line Le BARON (Not to be confused with the later, cheaper "Chrysler " LeBaron. The "Chrysler" name was removed from the car completely.

    • @williamg2552
      @williamg2552 Před 6 lety +1

      1) Dodge , Plymouth , and Desoto were all Chrysler products too. Yet, these cars were NOT known by the corporate name (I.E. ''Chrysler" Dodge, "Chrysler'' Desoto, of 'Chrysler" Plymouth. ) They were known by their individual division names. from 1955 on, so was Imperial.
      2) If you really want to know if the Imperial was a 'Chrysler" or not, check the VIN numbers. All 'Chryslers" (New Yorker, 300, Newport, Saratoga, etc) under the "make" code , used a "C".
      Imperial did NOT, Under it's "make"code , Imperial used a "Y".
      If the Imperial was indeed a Chrysler, It would have had a "C" make code just like Chrysler models did. But all Imperial models (Custom, Crown, LeBaron, and Limousine, used "Y". Thus , it was NOT a Chrysler from 1955 on.
      3) From Wikipedia: First generation (1955-1956): A separate make
      1955 Imperial Newport
      "For the 1955 model year, the Imperial was launched and registered as a SEPARATE marque (make), APART from the Chrysler brand. It was a product of the new IMPERIAL DIVISION of Chrysler Corporation, meaning that the Imperial would be a make and division unto itself, and NOT bear the Chrysler name.[1][4] Chrysler Corporation sent notices to all state licensing agencies in the then-48 states that the Imperial, beginning in 1955, would NO LONGER be registered as a Chrysler, but as a separate make . Even as early as in 1954, Chrysler Corporation ads at the time began to visibly and consciously separate The Imperial from the Chrysler Division car line in the eyes of the public, to prepare for the big change coming in 1955"
      I SUBMIT: Why would the Chrysler Corporation go through the extra EFFORT, TIME, and EXPENSE, of changing the car's internal numbering system, contacting all of the Motor Vehicle Departments in the then-48 United States, to inform them of the Imperial's make change , and making millions of people aware of this change through ads in newspapers, magazines , radio, and television, if , as the "Chrysler Imperial" guys claim, IT NEVER HAPPENED ?
      Think about it.

    • @EnchantmentOfTheSea1
      @EnchantmentOfTheSea1 Před 6 lety

      Well, I understand why it was done, (I refer you back to the magazine , it was and will always been known as the Chrysler Imperial. Regardless, why is this an issue? Chrysler (the one I grew up with) is gone to the Italians. VIN #'s are at times done to so status, and that is what the Imperial was.

    SHOW A LITTLE RESPECT for old Walter P.
    From 1926 to 1955 they were CHRYSLER IMPERIALS, MoPar's premium car. A marketing ploy made them only an "Imperial"... And only from 1955 to 1966. In '67 they went to back to being Chrysler Imperials.

      Imperial was Chryslers top make, not model from 1955 to 1975! Two different divisions, two separate entities! But from 1957 to 1966, Imperial was its own car, a completely different body and structure but, Chrysler still considered them to be the top make with its own model(s)!

    To you guys getting all bent out of shape that "It's an Imperial, not a Chrysler", get over yourselves. Imperial is to Chrysler what Lexus is to Toyota. Is a Lexus LS460 a Toyota? Not on the name plate, but yes it's built by Toyota and every part is a Toyota part so yes it's a Toyota. Same thing with the Imperials, and to cry that it's not is just silly and immature. Get over it. It's a Chrysler Imperial Crown Coupe.
