Nobody wants an older graphic designer! I know because I’m a 59 year old career graphic arts worker who was laid off during covid and have dealt with nothing but age descrimination
Hi @Stratmancruthers! Your question showed up in my comment section this evening. I kinda of remember responding to your comment, because it reminded me of my days as a graphic designer. But it is possible I didn't respond. Anyway, yes, I worked as a graphic designer early in my career. In fact my second business venture was selling graphic designer services (This was before Upwork and Fiverr were on the scene). I earned enough money selling my graphic design services to small stores in my neighborhood that I was able to launch my first business-to-business magazine. My route is the route I would recommend to you. I'm going to mention your question in a livestream I'm producing this Tuesday, October 17th, at 6:30pm. Check it out if you want to hear more. Thank you for the comment. I apologize for the delay in getting it out to you.
What do older workers want? As an older worker, not yet retired, I can tell you...a paycheck.
A paycheck and happiness and not necessarily in that order but both are essential.
And ability to pay rent
I'm a retired guy in a small town in Nebraska. Been a volunteer at our local food bank for 8 years now, as long as I've been retired. The women count and box the food items that the people take off the shelves. My job is being the mule, I haul the boxes out to their vehicles and most of the time load them in. My pay is I get some free junk food. I want a paid job in the work force as badly as I want to get cancer or a broken back. The food bank opens at 5 pm so those are great hours for me as I don't get up early, like to sleep in.
Happy Holidays to everyone.
One of my best buddies use to describe his job by saying: "I got it made in the shade, Lou". Sounds like you got it made in the shade too!
You are funny!
New subscriber here. Im 56 and have 20 years HR experience and I know for sure age discrimination is alive and well unfortunately.
Hello! I'm sure working in HR was eye opening. Thank you for subscribing to my channel.
It is absolutely true. I have experienced it and watched others turn down really good workers due to their age. It is now happening to a brother-in-law.
I noticed these videos are geared toward people in business.
I’m 51 , I do very physical work in a factory. My back and my knees won’t be able to hold to much longer. I lack the skills for most of the jobs in your videos.
Sounds like it is time to learn a new skill. Sometimes this is easier to say than do, but it can be done if you are committed to it. The time you spend exploring your career options and acquiring the necessary skills to become marketable will be well worth it. Do this while you are still young. And, at 51 you are still very young. Work hard to make your dreams a reality or you'll always be working to make someone else's dream a reality.
I drive a school bus at 63. Those grade schoolers keep me on my toes
I'll bet they do! I have a granddaughter who rides a school bus. She's polite but can be a handful.
All of these types of sites always assume that you worked in an office and had a degree. What about older blue collar workers, who are looking for jobs. Not all of us work behind a desk you know.
Hi Carol. No matter our background, or work experience it’s so important to reinvest in ourselves so we are more valuable/marketable. It’s our only choice.
@@Over50tv that’s right, I agree 100%! Some people are stuck in the mentality that they can’t advance themselves and improve their skill set, to a marketable career transition. Doesn’t matter if you don’t have a college degree. There are plenty of continuing educational classes to help you learn basic computer skills or other skills to help you get a better job that is flexible. For example part-time customer service remote job. It’s up to the individual who desires growth and needs other options. Never limit yourself, by locking yourself into an outdated job skill. 🤷🏾♀️
I just wanted to let you know that you created a great video and was very informative. I appreciate it! Thanks.
Thank you very much. I am very glad you found the video helpful.
Non profits don't pay well. It is expected that people who work at a non profit want to help their community so much we are willing to be paid poorly.
In my home city the people who manage the non-profits are paid well, not the underlings.
Why not start an online business? I teach people in our age group to grow online businesses based on their hard-earned expertise. It's a great income source for older, smart, experienced people because it's super flexible.
You can still keep your personal appointments, visit family, travel, and take days off as needed. You're in complete control, unlike a job where someone else is setting your schedule.
If you have expertise and want to help customers all over the world, it's a great option for people in our age group.
Starting an online business is a great option. I've suggested this many times on Over50tv and will continue to mention it. Recently we launched SideHustle Theater on Patreon to offer business startup tips. It's just getting off the ground. Please send me any info you have on your classes, please. lou@over50tv.com
@@Over50tv So glad to hear you're encouraging people in our age group to explore this! Watch your inbox - I'll reach out soon. Thank you!

Missing out on gig economy and tech jobs. We old folks have modern skills, too.
Yes, we do. And, it’s ridiculous that older folks have to go the extra mile to prove it.
Some folks do very well selling Medicare supplemental insurance. Mature folks should be well received by prospects.
Thanks Michael! I hadn't thought about product. That is an interesting idea for a side hustle or full-time gig.
That’s a great idea indigenous. I worked for a healthcare organization for 21 years , in revenue & billing part of those years. I have a lot of experience & knowledge concerning managed care plans. Will keep in mind when I “retire “ from my company.
I just want a little job like working in a coffee shop selling coffee and pastries...or working at a resort serving drinks...something sociable and insignificant. I made 50k a year as a lead medical assistant who basically ended up running the clinic...then I got covid delta variant that nearly killed me...I don't want anywhere near the medical field anymore!!
Thank you. Great ideas and advice.
I’m glad you enjoyed my video.
Thanks for sharing your expertise and experience and your time. This is helpful. I’m 61 and looking for full time employment. I’ll keep these suggestions in mind.

Greetings from N/W Ohio. Do you have any job ideas for a retired person who is looking for easy work, because of limited physical abilities related to aging. Still able to walk and get around and things like that. Just can't keep up in fast-paced environments.
I don't have a specific recommendation, other than what's been covered in my Over50tv and Side Hustle Rules videos. My strong recommendation is to search my channels/videos for an ONLINE GIG that closely matches your skills and/or interests. Please watch for future videos that can offer more ideas.
I'm 73 and need a job . Ready to work after a major weight loss and now need to work . University grad 1981 tons of knowledge experience BSBA
Hi Steve! Thanks for watching my video and thanks for commenting. May I suggest a two-step strategy of first developing/maintaining a source of income to pay your bills and then, and only then, take step two which is focusing all of your energy on developing a side hustle you can work from home. The more time you put into step two the faster it will grow and become a source of income. If you take the right steps you should be able to monetize your knowledge/experience and education. I hope this brief outline helps. In the next few days I'm going to upload a video to my Over50tv CZcams channel with a bit more detail. Please watch for it.
@@mephisto5585 You can’t be serious! If he is willing and able to work he should work! Enough said!
Encouraging thank you

Hi. Could you do a video on the best work for retirees? Ins and outs pros and cons etc?
This video is exactly the video showing excellent work for retirees. The only position he didn't mention is greeter at Walmart.
@@rgetso Thanks Richard. By the way, keep your paws off the Walmart greeter job, thats mine! :-)
I am not digging on the greeter at Walmart job but for some it may be a good choice.
I'll be producing more videos that cover this topic.
How about a dietary aid or a server in a retirement home?
Suggestion noted.
Seeking a part time job to ease economy.
Please check out my different videos. Hopefully one of them will spark and idea for the ideal part-time job.

How do you support a family on these incomes?
Hi Susan Craig! I thought I answered your comment but it keeps popping up in my comment box. I'm sorry if it didn't post. I think what I said was these are options. There certainly are other opportunities, like building a side hustle around something you like to do. Please check out my new CZcams channel, Side Hustle Rules. I'll be posting more videos with side hustle ideas. Maybe they'll be one you like.
Southern Ohio for me
I hope you didn't get slammed too hard with this latest winter storm!

Is this a joke.Such low pay not worth it.I would just not work rather than work for these low salaries
Workplace satisfaction depends on what you are looking for and what makes you happy.
@@Over50tv yeah but with these jobs and the price of gas you would probably be paying to go to work
Sounds horribly depressing.
Dan Jones! I don’t think so. There is lots of opportunity out there.
I'm an amazing employee and have nothing because I'm an older worker.
I'm single so not being able to do my career has almost killed me.
For me it's like life is over. 😢
this is all geared towards people with college degree's not the average everyday man / woman..
