While some people don't like the "drama", I think it's realistic for a couple of high school sophomores to have a rocky relationship. Too many TV shows pitch the idealistic notion that you should meet "The One" while in high school. But that wasn't the reality for me or most of the people I went to HS with. It was more an ongoing series of breakups and makeups that ended in permanent breakups after graduation. Especially for everyone who went away to college.
