    It was a short marriage forced by the authorities with each other in the presence of another loved one, but in the end, it seems that they became true friends who respected and understood each other.
    From now on, Fuji, who will shave her head and become a nun for the memorial service of her deceased husband and son, and will leave the mundane world and live the rest of her life only in the nunnery temple, will never see Anjin again. However, the fact that they were able to find hope in the midst of a harsh fate is the only salvation for these two people.

    Usami no Fuji is, in my mind, the only character in the series who leaves the stage on his/her terms. She is more free than any other character, including Toranaga. I think the writers of Shogun found a soft spot for her and decided that she should leave with her head held high. Moeka Hoshi's performance will always stay in my mind. Quiet strength and dignity in the face of adversity. I hope that she finds other roles where she will be able to give us great performances like this one.

    • @vintibo
      @vintibo Před měsícem +13

      @@einezcrespo2107 I think that the writers wanted to give Fuji some poetic justice after all that she had been through. They also wanted to give the viewers one happy ending in a series where many men and women are either killed or commit suicide. Outside of Mariko and a few others, the women who die in this series are all innocent victims. Fuji had several chances to die before she came to serve the Anjin and she did not take them. I believe that a woman of that era would have chosen the security of a household, even if that meant marrying the Anjin, over the monastery. In those days, life in a buddhist monastery meant a change of name, shaving your head bald, spending hours in prayer and always begging for alms from the local population. It could not have been an easy transition for a woman, especially one coming from the same social class as Fuji.

    • @richardruff8712
      @richardruff8712 Před měsícem +6

      @@vintibo Agreed... This has been a rather ' dark ' production throughout... I have a theory... There has been so much love for Fujiko shown in so many YT channels, and elsewhere... I think the producers realized that this woman is so popular, that they have written an extra scene, in the boat... So there can be a lovely ending for Fujiko... I believe this is extra, as there is nobody else in the scene, and so it was easy to make the production... Fujiko is such a sweet character, and we are all happy for her....

I felt dejected after witnessing all the trauma that blackthorn went through; then it happens: Fuji shows up on screen, sits next to blackthorn and somehow Fuji's presence was like a spring rain on a very hot day-refreshing and calming. I would like to conclude with a historical story. Miura Anjin then served as a military adviser to Tokugawa Ieyasu (Toranaga) in the major wars of the Osaka Winter and Summer, and was used as a HATAMOTO until the death of Tokugawa Ieyasu (Toranaga) in 1616. He remarried the daughter of a local magnate near Edo Castle and had one son and one daughter.
    After the death of Tokugawa Ieyasu (Toranaga), he was shunned by his successor, Tokugawa Hidetada, and Anjin's later years were unfortunate. Although he had several chances to return to England, he declined to return due to a conflict with the captain of a British ship that came to Japan. In 1620, in Hirado, Nagasaki Prefecture, Anjin died of illness.
    And it is unclear whether a woman like Fuji actually existed or not, since there are no historical records left.
    And no one will know whether Anjin actually stayed in Japan of his own will "as a samurai" until his death, or whether he continued to have hopes of returning to England.

      In the 1980 series, Blackthorne and Mariko had great ' chemistry ' due to both being great and experienced actors... The same with 1980 Blackthorne and 1980 Fujiko.... But, in this 2024 production, I am convinced that Anna Sawai was instructed to act the part of Mariko, in the ' Ice Maiden ' style, which seemed to mean there was a ' distance ' between Anna and Cosmo throughout the series... But, as we have seen, Moeka Hoshi seems to have a wonderful acting talent, which she puts into her role so beautifully... It is my opinion, that the producers were eager to show a natural ' warmth ' between Moeka and Cosmo, and the final scene in the boat, was so lovely and gave us all, the sad - yet lovely - ending that we all wanted, especially for Fujiko... Such a cute lady.....

      I think you got it backward that the family's temple the traditional resting place would be in a different place than a full fledged temple where she would go to be a nun and she was conflicted. When Blackthorne came up with a burial at sea ideal so she could just look at the ocean to be near her husband and child.

      I haven't read the book, but I certainly didn't take it that way in the series, especially after she appears to make peace in letting the remains of her family go. Additionally, the characters in the show (and book) are generally built around the experiences of real people. Becoming a Buddhist nun, perhaps most famously in the case of Lady Sen, was certainly a realistic path considering her situation.

    I honestly can't fault the acting, the clothes are such a beautiful recreation of the time, and the story of the 2024 version skipped by the 1980's of the Spanish pilot and heavy religion that was mostly gone from this. My only gripe was the ending and nothing how Tokugawa Ieyasu became shogun and the taking of heads, also as if they ran out of money. If i was to give this out of 10, then without doubt it would be a solid 8.5 out of 10

    I think based on Blackthorn's Western civilities that it was somewhat out of character for him to try to "order" her to stay. I feel it would have been much more likely that he would clearly "ask" her to stay thus elevating her and demonstrating both regard and respect. I realize that some of us may feel that his newly acquired Japanese nature would call for the "order", but I think it feels unnatural coming from Blackthorn. I wish that he had asked her politely to stay and that she would have politely declined, perhaps followed by some small emotional token from both of them.

    • @andypham1451
      @andypham1451 Před 29 dny +2

      Given the context of this scene and the grief Blackthorne is experiencing, wanting Fuji to stay is not really because he wants her as her "consort" per se, but more of needing a friend. Because Mariko is dead, all he really has in his home is Fuji who can understand what he's going through despite the language barrier. So it would be natural for him to wanting her to stay so he won't feel lonely. But he did show her the idea of a sea burial for her husband and son, as a token of his gratitude.
