Now she doesn't have to visit a shrine, or a grave. She only has to look out to the sea. Anywhere in Japan.
yes, they will just become fish food
Dude......
Had the same thought after watching this scene. Too bad lady Fugi didn't stay with him since he was stuck in Japan though.
Anywhere in British Columbia
I do not believe she would have been allowed or free to visit such places.
"Let your hands be the last to hold her..."
NOOOOO 😭 callback to when they took Fuji's son away from her 😭
😭😭💔😭😭
Thought of that immediatly.
To me, this was the climax of the episode. Fujisama and Anjin, two people hurting inside on a boat in the middle of the sea agreeing to let go of the physical remnants of their loved ones. Onions were definitely cut during this scene. Thank you, Shogun. I thoroughly enjoyed this series.
It was this and Toranaga scene with Yabushige
Even though this isn't in the novel it is a beautiful scene. Their shared loss and pain they understood each other very well.
I am delighted that Fujiko has a lovely role in this scene.... Favorite Lady !
I really like how the scenes they added are very pertinent. Actually im really like how they adaptated the whole novel
It’s probably my favorite scene in the whole show so that’s impressive
In the beginning she saw Blackthorne as nothing more than a barbarian, a savage from other lands with whom she had nothing in common with. 10 episodes later she sees him as not just a friend, but respects him as a good man. This is beautiful writing and character development at its finest !
its so cute that Mariko's words to her about letting her hold her son for the last time, she used for John to let him hold her for the last time ;n;
didn't notice that until seeing your comment!
I find it funny how after so many callbacks to Mariko word the episode's last one is to Yabushige's "pissing in the wind"
@@waegit1697 ohhhh 😱
I wonder if the actress for Fuji-sama would have predicted that she'd capture the hearts of millions of viewers worldwide. Though a minor character, her influence and impact on this show could not have been achieved with anyone else!!
Her facial expressions, mannerisms, and emotions display so genuinely and even comically at times! Really brought the character to life! She is just so adorable and beautiful in every sense of the words.
Future Emmy winner 🏆❤
Moeka Hoshi has written, that she has been amazed, and very surprised, at how popular her role as Fujiko, has been received by the viewers all over the world... Let's face it, she is so cute and sweet.... We all love Fujiko... !
She has stricken a chord with all viewers. I hope she gets cast not just in future TV shows/series, but also in future movies as well.
Moeka Hoshi is a brilliant actress.
@@Donegal62 Possibly not well known outside of Japan ?... But. IMO, she is the genuine ' discovered ' star of this particular production... She seems to give so much emotion and style into her role ( apart from being so VERY cute ) .... We can hope that she gets some very good acting roles, based on her performance here...
Fantastic actress! As you say, the micro facial expressions, the head turns, the side looks. Her deflection over the tea cups in the Geisha bargaining scene ....
I'm sure this will come across as weird, but at the start of the series, I didn't find her particularly attractive; by the end, she was the most beautiful woman ever. Can I really be the only one to think this, or am I the only one to admit it!?
Haha she is so cute when she try to understand Blackthorne's message of throwing the ashes to the sea.
SHE IS SO CUTE....ALL THE TIME...
I'm not typically an emotional viewer...but when Fuji said, "let your hands be the last to hold her" I teared up a bit. This show has hit me in the feels several times. Masterful series.
The way she held her baby's tiny urn a little longer...This scene really sealed the greatness of the series for me on top of everything else. Together forever.
"Let your hands be the last to hold her..."
That line alone... Is what keeps blackthorne stay alive with fuji in the end.
@@ZaimGamePlaydoes he end up marrying Fuji and moves to England?
@@joshuak8982no he doesnt. He never returns. Lives and dies in Japan. That old Blackthorne is a dream. Hencenthe genius of the episode title
@@Geezman1977 oh what?… wow, I honestly now don’t know how I feel about the ending even more😂
@@Geezman1977 for real? I was about to ask whose necklace he was holding on his old bed if he threw it here.
Fuji’s arc throughout the series was the biggest improvement they made over the original.
YES, I can agree with this comment... If we compare ALL the characters from 1980 and 2024, and the story lines, then I think that the performance by this young lady Moeka Hoshi... is the only serious role, which can be seen to be more involved and impressive, than the 1980 version... IMO all the other cast members are not as good as the 1980 characters... Many of us feel that Fujiko is naturally cute, and has the ability to put great emotion into her role...
Amen. But after this scene, I hoped they'd go all the way and make it clear that Fuji stays with Blackthorne, near the sea (close to her old family's remains).
@@KK-fi6ms Yes, it is what we all want.... Maybe, in a spin-off series, we could have Blackthorne petition Toranaga, to let Fujiko become his wife... And in return, Blackthorne make a promise to stay in Japan, and help to build a ' Western style ' fleet for Toranaga... This would allow our favorite Fujiko to come back and charm us all again...
While Omi's character had gotten the exact opposite treatment from the original. They belittled him completely in the newer version.
@@richardruff8712 The door is open, at least.
Although unable to completely understand each other. They share their pain and loved for the people they lost and they have each other now i hope its what they need to survive.
That episode crushed me emotionaly. This whole scene had me in tears but when Fuji sama said "Let yout hands be the last to hold her" I had to get up from my seat because I couldn't handle the rush of emotion.
This series will forever hold a very special place in my heart. Every characters were perfectly written. Amazing show
I like the relationship between the two characters in this video. Even though they don't love each other romantically or have a physical relationship, and they each think about other people, they don't despise or ignore each other. Despite being a couple forced together, they seem to maintain a good friendship and respect for each other until the end,
indeed. Truly a unique and heartfelt portrayal
Fuji is by far my favorite character in the entire show. A woman like her is a gift from heaven to any man.
Somebody always gotta make it weird
Agree, but only at the end of this series. She is real gift for the man
@@rhinocort1184 Ha!
Though different from the book, this feels wholesome and poetic. They were able to comfort each other, grieve together, help each other get closure and properly say their goodbyes with respect.
And if you listened to the podcast, this scene got more meaning. It turns out this scene is the exact same location where the book’s author’s ashes were scattered by his daughter.
That little smile as she started letting the ashes flow into the sea as she realized what it meant.
Wow, at 2:32 to 2:36 she is absolutely gorgeous and sweet... Top star of the show...
Then she dies in the next episode
@@coachChot8966 Don't want to disappoint you, but there will be no more episodes.... It was only intended to be a 10 episode production...
According to history her character does get killed sometime later.
@@morganbrown392 no, read the book. 😅😀
@@liwyatan Might be difficult, because many people don't want to read through 1244 pages... !
When my son, a Merchant Marine captain working on a schooner in the Caribbean was mortally wounded in Nassau while rescuing two women who was being assaulted by four gunmen, we cast his ashes into the sea from the deck of the boat on which he had served.
❤❤🥺🤧❤❤
May he rest in peace.
You've raised a good son. May he have eternal peace 🙏🏻
You raised a good man. Sorry for your loss.
So kind of you to time travel from the 1700's to tell us this.
This show is a gem, I cried so much and especially during this scene 😢❤ thank you for the feels Shōgun !!
she is so beautiful and calming in all of her scenes
This was my favourite scene out of the entire show❤ it was perfect
This scene is leaving us all, DEMANDING a spin-off series, where, somehow, Fujiko can be allowed to become the wife of Blackthorne ( maybe with Moeka Hoshi learning a little English ) and Blackthorne supervising the building of a Western style fleet of ships for Toranaga...
Fuji sama is so adorable. Everytime she appeared on screen, i wish i could give her a hug
So true.... She seems to be naturally very cute and sweet....
These two have the loveliest relationship.
切なくとも美しいシーン。
Its enough to make a grown man cry
this was so beautiful. I really wanted to see Fuji & Blackthorne fall in love and grow old together. there was so much mutual kindness and respect for each other. after all they have both gone through and lost, they deserved a pure quality life long love together.
Better in this way, i think. Relationship between men and women not just about romantic, but can also familial bonding or friendship. Fuji and John are great friends to each other.
They sent her to the convent to save her. That way even if ishigo and his allies win the coming war she would be saved from the retribution meted out to the vanquished and their associates.🤔
This wrecked me. I haven't cried so much for a show in a while.
Watch the series 1883 .
The smile at the end, "He is a nice man."
At the beginning of the series, Mariko said only the mother should be the last one holding the baby.
Yeah but how's that possible when Tadayoshi was holding his son the last time? That guy was stupid. No one ordered him to commit seppuku not Toranaga not even Ishido.
To live
To love
To lose
To long for
To let go
This scene eloquently paints the journey. And it started to rain.
What a character arc. Seeing how Blackthorne and Fuji sama began in the show,I would have never guessed their final scene gives the most impactful, heart piercing performance
For someone who a few years ago scattered his father's ashes on the waters where he had spent a lot of his life sailing, this scene brought me to tears. For me, Fuji-sama was the most interesting of all the characters in Shogun and I wish she had played a more significant role.
that music (two hearts) kills me every time
Loved this moment 😢 absolutely beautiful
The kimono she is wearing has a pattern of wisteria flowers.
Wisteria has a similar pronunciation to the Japanese word immortality, meaning longevity and prosperity of descendants.
彼女が着ている着物は藤の花の紋様ですね。
藤は日本語で不死と発音が似ていることから、長寿・子孫繁栄という意味があります。
And wisteria in Japanese is fuji.
wow what an amazing detail!!
Excellent detail, arigato goziemas!
Her son and husband would have died even if Blackthorne never arrived and Blackthorne would not have made strides to learn about his surroundings if it wasn't for her patience and sense of purpose as a consort. If he had never washed up in Japan, her life wouldn't have had a purpose after their death. He probably needed her presence in his life even more than Mariko (though his desire was for Mariko). Literally two people that needed each others support to survive. They each gave the other a meaning to endure and triumph in some way
Incredible writing and story arch. Possibly the best series finale I've ever seen
Perfectly said. It is in my opinion the best Finale I've ever experienced. Not everyday that a show hits me with so much raw emotions that I have to go take a walk because Its so much to handle. This show is amazing
Perhaps the best scene in the show.
Yes, totally agree.... I made a similar comment elsewhere... This woman deserves an Oscar... By far the best actor in this 2024 Shogun series...
Honestly
its outrageous how beautiful and talented the atresses on this show are. Really hoping we see them in more media soon.
Not too sure about all the rest of the cast, but, IMO, Moeka Hoshi has absolutely nailed it perfectly as Fujiko... Very cute and sweet young lady...
I wanted Fuji and Blackthorne to get together in the last episode. Now I’m glad they didn’t because throughout the whole show, it’s really about what a person wants out of life and they have to really pursue it and not let anyone stop them from doing so. For example, Mariko wanted to die, but in the end, she died with honor. Blackthorne wants to go home to England, so he has to build a ship. Fuji lost her family, her husband and baby and she had nothing left for her, but she does have a beacon of light that through this hardship, she may save others as a nun. And even Toranaga, he wants to be a Shogun and that’s the loneliest role where there are plans but who to trust? So he keeps foes and enemies around such as Blackthorne and Yabushiage around. Blackthorne wanted Mariko in his life before seppuku, but she still went for it because determination is the key for succession. Blackthorne also wanted Fuji not to be a nun, but she’s going to be a nun cause that’s what she wishes. So if this show proves anything, never let anyone stop you from going after your dreams!
she's so strong. it's beautiful
beautiful ending
This woman Moeka Hoshi ( Fujiko ) is a very classy and skillful actor... I hope she gets more leading role in another historical production...

Such a beautiful scene. Nearly brought me to tears.
My final arrangement as well but in the Choptank River where I am from in Maryland. The river runs into the Chesapeake bay, which runs into the Atlantic ocean, which merges with all the other oceans and gulfs around the world.
Fuji Best Nun ❤
this, in my contention, was the finale's greatest scene
All the time i hoped for Fuji and John to fall in love
This scene confirms the old grandpa Blackthorne scene is a dream because he discards the cross here, meaning he cannot have it later. I wonder if Blackthorne ever made it back to England.
Toranaga made sure he didn't
In reality, Anjin never left Japan. He had a chance to leave but didn’t. He eventually settled down with a Japanese woman. Their descendants still live in Japan. There's now a memorial where his house used to be in Edo, now Tokyo
She has the sweetest little face.
IMO, she does not have much make-up ( possibly because she is naturally pretty and doesn't need it ).. But, by comparison, all the other female cast seem to have too much make-up, as if the " painted ladies " ... I still consider that Moeka Hoshi could have made a wonderful Mariko, and would have charmed us all..?
masterful Shogun series...episode 9 was massive and the finale was emotional
Poor Mariko, I loved her... 😢
So sorry.... Do you mean... " Poor Fujiko, I loved her ... "..... ?
That is very kind of Fuji. I hope the two of them can end up together.
Not if she's a nun
She becomes a nun so I doubt it lol

What a scene so powerful
Such a beautiful scene.
I don’t know why but this scene made me cry.
Same here.
Fuji Sama ❤
How Fuji tenderly clasps Anjin’s hands between hers to help give him the strength to go through with his letting go of Mariko….
Such a wonderful ending! ❤
2:08 That micro-expression from fuji tells me that she also feels the pain of losing mariko, and also feels for john's pain. Fuji tear-up a little when john said "no translator".
Best girl.
beautiful scene
What a scene! Instant tears
... and they live happily ever after
(at least in my canon mind)
Blackthorne is based off a real life person. The person based on blackthorne never left Japan, got married and had kids so I hope that makes you feel better :)
i hope this isn't the last of Fuji sama, I just love her character
why this scene make me cry
So sad😢
I hear they are not going to do a season 2 But Clavell has other books they could turn into miniseries like Tai Pan or Whirlwind. Can't wait!
This was my favorite scene
I think fuji and anjin will really be together
That is what we all want.....
And.....fuji and Anjin love story start
cool so im not alone in getting that vibe from the scene
Except that Blackthorne still has a wife in England who won't take too well to his constant cheating.
@@rsuriyoplike toranaga would allow him to ever come back.
Not really at least not in the novel. Lord Toranaga released her from her services as Anjin's consort. Then he bought Kiku and gave her to Anjin as wife.
@@rsuriyop in real like Adam send money to his wife through other merchants once he became head of the trade in future after Toranaga ( real life Tokugawa) became Shogun...Adam ( blackthorn) married a Japanese
Whether they went together is still a debate(though highly unlikely) since this episode is called a dream of a dream, depicting old Anjin holding the Mariko’s cross. However in this scene Anjin actually throws away the cross. So this scene might be old Anjin dreaming about what if he stayed in Japan letting go of Mariko (and probably convinced Fuji to stay), but it could also be the vice versa, young Anjin dreaming about the old age Anjin if he leaves Japan(there was a brief scene of young Anjin and old Anjin switching in between, hinting each of them could be dreaming about the past/future).
However, as Toranaga stated he would do whatever he can to let Anjin stay in Japan and not leave. Or it could be after Toranage died Anjin went back to England, there is no real answer.
Thus this ending is the best as we can’t identify what is the true ending of Anjin and leaves the ending for each audience’s interpretation.
Nicely said. I have not conceived that old Anjin might be dreaming another possibility in Japan if he chose to stay.
My favorite scene I think🥺❤️
😢😢😢🕊🕊🕊❤❤❤🪦🪦🪦😞😞😞 (for Mariko-sama aka 鞠子様を、ために)
My twisted mind was half expecting the ashes to fly away into the wind, like in Big Lebowski. XD
Still wild to me that she would rather give up the rest of her life in service of the cloth than just live outside of the bounds of her duty. She is just trading one duty-bound lifestyle for another. Nothing will change for her as she not even a devout Christian.
