I loved the character of Fuji more than any of the others. She was a rock, steadfast throughout who suffered terribly through no fault of her own. I wish she had more of a role in the series.
that gun scene is FOREVER scratched into my harddrive
@@thlee3 Yes.. ha ha ha.. Beware women with guns !... It seems that, at first, the viewers didn't know what to make of Fujiko... But, as the series went on, she has become more and more popular with us all... For me, she is the one ' discovered ' star of the show...Partly because she is cute and pretty, but also because she seems to play her role with great emotion and skill... I am of the growing opinion, that Moeka Hoshi, should have been cast as Mariko... and Anna Sawai could have been an ' Ice Maiden ' version of Fujiko.... It could have worked that way....
"Fuji... best nun".
Of course, Fuji is best everything
Totally agree... Cutie Fuji must return... We ALL want her to return...
We were all Blackthorn in this scene. I was begging for Fuji to stay at his side even just as his friend/ consort. I think, everyone who’s good deserves a Fuji, even if there’s only one of her.
Exactly, all I need is a SINGLE Fuji.
That can only be possible with good intentions....
Omi's expression when Blackthorne gives over his sword and gun is just breathtaking. These actors don't even have to speak.
Hoshi Moeka stole every scene she was in during the series. Everyone loves her.
I loved when they both sat together and looked to their right missing mariko.
Their last scene together on the boat as well.
2:47 That eye blink and head bob are so endearing. She's done this before when he complimented her after she pointed the guns at Omi. PERFECTLY in character; like a apprehensive bird.
1:02 Love her sorrowful eyes
Yes, she has the natural ability to be VERY expressive with her eyes, and her facial style is so sweet and CUTE... !
True, Hoshi Moeka-San is a revelation!
@@amiciprocul8501 Of all the actors in this ensemble, I think that Moeka Hoshi is the ONLY one, that seems to have left a lasting impression on the viewers... Partly because she is so cute, and partly because the others seem to be robotic and, IMO, seem to lack personality...
love her everything
The way Fuji sits and joins Anjin - not out of obligation or duty as his consort, but because she seemed to just wish to keep him company out of a sense of care and compassion, of not wanting for him to be all alone in a moment where he was clearly emanating such profound grief. She wanted to be a friend to him in that moment, when she felt he needed one most. What an arc shared between these two.
4:15 this time Anjin willingly handed over his weapons
A sign of the trust and respect he gave him.
Blackthorne isn't afraid anymore, especially after what he's been through. Plus if he doesnt get to Toranaga in one piece, the fault will be Omi's
Omi seemed a bit surprised. I think he was bracing for an agruement.
With Blackthorne's loss of Mariko and Omi's upcoming loss of his uncle Yabushige; both men probably feel that their petty dispute with one another just isn't worth it anymore.
The part in which Fuji-sama tells Blackthorne she is leaving to become a nun and he wants her to stay was powerfully heart breaking for me. He needed someone he was close to to help with is pain but it wasn't to be. I think too many of us have been in similar situations like this before be-it the passing of someone or break up. As brilliant as it is, It will be some time before I give this scene a watch again.
She’s nun of his concern now
I absolutely love that the sweet, gentle Lady Fuji gets a better ending this time. They way they handle this really feels like "this is how it always should have gone". becoming a nun to pray for her baby...yes
Fuji is the star of the show…she deserves a Emmy award❣️
I have been writing, since episode 4, that this very cute lady is the STAR of this Shogun production... Moeka Hoshi is very expressive with her acting style, and seems to be very popular.... I don't know about the rest of the cast, but this young lady deserves to win an Oscar.... I want to join the Fujiko fan club !
@@richardruff8712 Oscars are given for movies. Since this is a TV series, she deserves an Emmy instead. But later on, if she appears in a movie, she might end up getting an Oscar!
@@jsprite123 Ha ha ha.... Thanks for the correction, point taken... I think that, what we are all saying, is that we all are so impressed with Moeka Hoshi, and her performance in this production... TBH, I had never heard of her before, but I, and we, will be following her career, with great interest... Not sure if the other ' stars ' of this production will be so successful...?
we need to have more tv series like this
“正室(Lawful wife, Consort)“ means that she was the first wife in the hierarchy, so they were officially married.
However, in historical fact, Anjin in 1600 still did not get a permission from Tokugawa Ieyasu(Toranaga) to have a wife.
By the way, at that time, high-status Daimyo and Hatamoto were allowed to have multiple wives at the same time in order to keep the family line alive. And all wives who were second in the hierarchy and later were called “側室(Concubine)”. And female servants who were not married were called "侍女(maid)"
Kinda similar to the Chinese system back in those days, where nobles and powerful/rich individual tended to have multiple wives of different hierarchies, including maids that you could sleep around with. I know my great-grandfather had 3 wives, which was legal prior to CCP China.
In the book, Fuji has a meeting with Toranaga who gives her permission to commit suicide, acknowledging her duty to her dead husband and son. At first Toranaga thought that she was pregnant with Blackthorne's child, something that Fuji denies (though she isn't 100% sure). Before she leaves, Fuji advises Toranaga on the matter of the Anjin's future. She recommends a wife in Omi's soon-to-be ex wife Midori (who doesn't appear in the FX series) whom she knows Anjin had a liking for, and Kiku the courtesan as consort. She also recommends that Anjin's fief be changed to include Yokose, the spa town where Anjin and Mariko's relationship began. I'm a little disappointed that Anjin's future wasn't sorted before the ending in the FX series because a Hatamoto would have to have a household and a wife/consort to support him.
Kiku is told later that she is to be the Anjin's consort but freaks out, not wanting that. When Toranaga then reminds her that Anjin is one of his most trusted retainers, that he is Samurai, Hatamoto and that her children will be born Samurai she calms down and happily agrees. Social mobility was always Kiku's (and the Mamasan Gyoko's) ambition.
In the Book Toranaga also offered Kiku the amount of 1000 Koku for her first son with Blackthorne, and Fuji also recommends to include Izo to Anjin's fief, just in case he need a location with a bigger harbour to build bigger ships.
The only good thing about the ending is, Fuji didnt die, she lives on.
If memory serves Blackthorne “gifts” Kiku to Omi San doesn’t he?
@@mjspice100 the 1980 version, but not in the book.
@@privatexxxx4805 just so.
Love Fuji
We all love Fujiko........ Cutie...!
A cute/beautiful face certainly helps an actress. But that alone is not enough, you need something more. And Moeka Hoshi has a truckload of those "other" things.
He doesn't immediately say "no translator", he turns his head away and looks immensely sad, as if the idea causes him grief.
literally gasped when fuji came in
Fuji best nun
Yes, because they're all right !
No translator....
😢😢😢
Fuji sama...best nun...
❤❤❤
No translator 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
nooooooooooooo Waifu Sama not nun! Waifu Sama must pillow, I order it 👀
Billy no mates
Im really hoping for them to be reuntied for the next season where they have each other to survive and maybf they can finally trully speak and understand each other. I want to see her with a gun! I want to see John should his wife how to shoot his gun. And to see John train with her familys swords.
There is no next season
@@zacharycallaghan7016 There is one now....
@@jsprite123 There should be a season 2... Maybe Blackthorne petition Toranaga, to allow Fujiko to become his wife...In return, Blackthorne promise to stay in Japan, and supervise the building of a ' Western style ' fleet of ships...?
Hulu just confirmed there are 2 more seasons that has been approved! Fuji sama must return!
@@sonm1na Wow... We can hope... Fujiko to be the leading lady...
In the book he gets kiku
True, but he gives her contract to Omi, meaning he gave her to him.
@@aquilifergroup
not in the book
that's just in the original mini-series
I just recently read the book
Omi comes to realization that he needs to let go of Kiku
Kiki is overjoyed about she's going to be Blackthorne's wife and even puts her arms around Toranaga's neck in thanking him
what's funny is that she acted totally the opposite about being told by Toranaga that she was to be Blackthorne's consort before the mention about being his wife and had thoughts about committing suicide by jumping off a cliff
I think you mean none instead of nun.
Nun as in Fuji becoming a Nun 🤔
