    Elisha Otis (1811-1861) was an inventor who developed a key mechanism for elevators. He sold this to investors and customers by a demonstration, he'd stand on a platform in a framework that would be winched up above spectators and then he'd have the cable cut. But instead of plumeting to his death, the safety mechanism would open up, push against the rails and stop the decent a moment afterwards. The basic Otis safety system is still used today.

    • @hangebza6625
      @hangebza6625 Před rokem +45

      True. The basic concept of fire-themed dwarfs aktin as pragmatic if not amoral mercenaries to revive their god is indeed interesting.
      Making them all naked slayers with marginally different weapons and one hot lizard however is repetitive and boring.
      Concept great, execution not so

    • @expanddongerydoo34
      @expanddongerydoo34 Před rokem +24

      @@hangebza6625 The worst part is that none of their models are bad, it's that there's no real variation between them. Now that's partially because they really don't have much in the first place, with only about 8 actual kits, though that's more of an overall problem in AOS. But if GW expanded the range with stuff that aren't just half naked Dwarves , Fyreslayers could be great.

    • @trailblazerlazerrazerd9027
      @trailblazerlazerrazerd9027 Před rokem +2

      I appreciate you speaking up for them. But that's more so GW and CA not knowing what to really do with them probably. There is a charm to certain groups and factions having downsides and weaknesses in them. But dwarves who have bad range just sounds like bad writing. Just because they're short doesn't mean they can't topple Giants or would need to be Gotrek Gurnisson to do so with his god axe. I'm sure they're already working on it but that's no excuse for making them metaphorically lopsided on the tabletop and at best a largely support group. Or the fact that he basically made them mercenaries Dwarves could be mercenaries just like anybody. But the fact that they also took away their general independence is another issue. In the Old World they had their own ancestor gods who could aid them when times were at their toughest like Sigmar or even the Emperor of Mankind blessing his servants or giving them at least a chance against their enemies or an opportunity to escape Because that person is devoted to the imperium/empire or a hero coming into their own like Ciaphus Cain or Balthasar Gelt. Those should've also been translated into the Mortal Realms, but the only one really present is Grimnir because he was the Lord of the Slayers, hence the Fyreslayers. That and the whole “Dwarves and their Grudges” bit which was part of the reason their species was probably in decline. Too many old beards getting obsessed with getting even instead of building newer foundations.

    Lore tibits:
    - Before the age of myth did Tyrion who soul was bounded with the wind of hysh through sheer force reborn like a phoenix from the flames as a god of light however the newly Lord Phoenix found himself alone in the realm. Feeling incomplete without his twin did the lord phoenix fought the greatest eldritch threats and traverse the farthest parts of the realm until he crossing the Luminaris Sea a sea of liquid light that girdles the edge of the realm (where magic is completely unstable and reality break down). The closer to the Realm’s Edge he roamed, the more reality faded; washed out by the sheer intensity of the light that shone there, it became little more than a pencil sketch, then a cluster of dots, then nothing more than a concept or wave of thought. Still Tyrion pushed onwards believing he hears his brother whispers even beckoning him further to the point that his very eyes the sun god melted off. Impress by his resolve the spirit of the realm itself salvage the lord Phoenix that he awoken once more back to center the realm blinded but now join by his brother Teclis the newly ascended Archmage god

    - The Teclian nation of Zaitrec is said to be touch by the power of the moons cask in perpetual star-lite night skies (Imagine Nokstella from elden ring) and native elves are the most proficient magic users of all the Lumineth claiming to be capable to battle a human mage at the age of 9.

    - The Tyrionic nation of Alumnia is a treacherous & monster-infested lands where the elves of these lands a born with an innated sense of adventuring and martial prowess, rasied on the stories of adventures and heroic feats of Tyrion the Lord Phoenix to a religious degree willing to go to such extremes of training and battling that their eyes glow red in intensity and/or acquire advance sensory perception (Daredevil powers without blindness) much like their Lord Phoenix.

    - The Lumineth simply do not believe in passing on to an afterlife rather their souls melting and becoming one with the magic of the realm itself as a sort of nirvana state of immortality. However the Alumnia Lumineth are a rare exception choosing to passes onto the elven heavens floating in the skies of Shyish to continue their duty in these heavenly underworld

    - The Zaitrec elves are nickname "the children of Teclis" for they are all adopted by the Archmage god whom mentors these elves to become wizards, ambassadors, scholars and Loreseekers whom he send out to the mortal realms (Teclis can clone himself). However despite this fatherly role he plays the Zaitrec elves religiously revere Celennar the spirit of the moon more, much to Teclis chagrin & Tyrion amusement
    - N
    - The Vanari Bannerblade's banner contain the icons of the Eclipsian an entity representing the singularity of enlightenment, potential, order & magic with some of those in Lumineth society believe that the Twin gods will one day join together as one upon reaching the true zenith level of pure power and enlightenment

    - During the age of myth did Sigmar encounter the twin gods whom rejoice to hear that that the Azyrite civilization contained elves however disappointedly sense none full contained the same luminous soul as those of Ulthuan (hence the need of capturing Slaanesh). Despite this the twins joined the Pantheon of Order Tyrion was reunited with his former lover Alarielle (there is little of what those two said/did together) while Teclis enter a dick measuring contest with the Undying king Nagash of whom of the two is the mightier mage

    - The worship of magic and the moons among the Zaitrec elves that all sort of magic is allowed to be studied in the white towers of the nation even Necromancy & the power of the WAAAGH! With only two sort of magic completely prohibited; 1) Chaos magic obviously & 2)the insanity magic of the gloomspite Bad Moon for they consider the Lovecraftian moon existence heresy & have recently communicating with the Seraphon constellations to being dealing with the Eldritch moon (recent tome say that the lizardmen have began landing on the moon)

    - Before the elves inhabited the great nation Syar the Khazalid dwarves dwell in the Syar mountains and despite their differences the mighty dwarven High king Brynt made an alliance of friendship with the Lumineth so that the two races could co-exist resulting the two cultures blended together as Elven sorcery and Dwarven craftsmanship join together to constructed the nation of wonders. Syar weapons and armor are so prefect and well-crafted that even the largest elf-hating dwarf would grumble in respect

    - In the Teclian nation of Iliatha does all life is place above all else for the land is full of fey gardens & enchanted forests co-existing with the Sylvaneth and the Iliatha elves place Alarielle as part of the trinity of worship. However the nation is truly (in)famous for perfection of cloning a magical art that see the host soul split apart creating a living twin of one self and during the age of myth was the prefer way to reproduce as in those times Iliatha elves would clone themselves 20-100 times until the days of the Spire where the Iliatha elves began conducting "unnatural experiments" (I don't want to know what they meant by this but that the word the say) towards their clones resulting the invasion of Slaanesh demons. As of the war of reinvention and age of sigmar does the nation strictly prohibit any sort of clone no more than twice a life time but rumor and whisper of lifting the band are spread as the armies of Greenskin & undead begin to invade in the thousands to millions

    - The Chains of Slaanesh that binds the lust god are made from actual paradoxes hence keeping even a chaos god trap. One of these chain couldn't be broken unless Khorne himself break it witch the concept of helping her/him is consider one of the biggest paradoxes (arachaon manage break it with the khorne head of his dragon tho)

    Oh and remember that bit about how the Realm Lords will appear before others to help defeat Chaos? Well on the same side of that coin, they're also prone to butting in on someone else's business simply because the Lumineth believe everyone else has no idea what they're doing and they CLEARLY need help from their betters.
    Also they tend to have a scorched Earth policy in that once the main Chaos threat has been dealt with, there's a 50/50 chance of the elves deciding to kill everyone anyway just to be sure there is no risk of Chaotic taint (this applies to any survivors and the "allies" they came in to help).

The riots that have occurred there were started by certain Lumineth manipulating things behind the scene. Not to make people think the settlement was a mistake, oh no, but to rid the city of lesser elements. To accelerate the city's progress.

Love those guys with the rock-smashing hammers and the guy on the precariously balanced stone pillar. I'd totally build a little army centering around them. Maybe add some new, cool, crystalline-looking rock golems and I'd be happy.

    2. They can clone themselves. While it’s shunned and banned in most nations, other nations will just let you clone yourself.
    3. The temples are some of the coolest lore in all of AoS. The mountain temple gives you all the cool stone units. To become a full member you must, dig a grave then lay in the grave, your masters will then fill it and of you can get the mountain spirits to let you breath you can will get back out. Other such fun examples of this are to jump off of hights for the wind temple, drown yourself for the water temple, etc.

    Another note: while Lumineth themselves can only ally with Idoneth Deepkin, for some reason, you can take LRL units in Cities of Sigmar on a 1 in 4 basis if you run Settler's Gain. For if you want a taste of High Elves, but don't necessarily want to run them using the LRL rules or if you don't want to spend a fortune on a full army.
    Further, a reminder that while the old High Elf line is largely defunct, some pieces of it (namely the Phoenix Guard stuff) persist in CoS, along with much of the Wood Elf and Dark Elf lines. So you can have a big elf party, if you so choose. Cities of Sigmar also natively can take 1 in 4 Stormcast units, _in addition to_ the 1 in 4 LRL units you can run in Settler's Gain.
    (It's worth noting that Cities of Sigmar will likely get a huge rework soon, so take this advice with a grain of salt. We have no idea how the 3rd edition battletome will work.)

    I'm always happy to see more AoS content on the channel! This is a great video, in spite of the bias.(maybe even because of it?) Maybe it's just because I enjoy this faction, but this is one of my favorite videos of yours in recent memory. I can't wait for a video on the Tyrionic half of the army, whenever it gets released.
    However, as someone who has played at least a little bit of Lumineth on the Tabletop myself, I'd say that there is one point I'd like to mention. When it comes to Tabletop Cons, you brought up that they might be *too* strong. While that is a valid point, they throw out a lot of Mortal Wounds at long range, which is inherently really powerful. They aren't the meta destroying juggernauts they were from 2020-2021. Ever since their most recent book came out and eliminated most of the egregiously unfun rules, Lumineth have been doing better from a power level standpoint, they're not bottom tier obviously, but theyre not dominating top tables either.
    However, one thing I belive Lumineth as an army suffer from, even with their latest book fixing their once poor internal balance, is a lack of diversity in their builds. In order to keep their buffs up, which is nearly essential for their gameplay, they need to go first, so you often see builds hard forced into 1-drop deployment, and their only viable melee threats are the Mountain Spirits and Stoneguard with their buffs up. So alot of Lumineth strategies are either built around Stoneguard and the Mountain Cow, or Teclis and Sentinels(archers).
    Now granted, there is some crossover between these builds, but not a ton, and with the nerfs to the Wind Temple Subfaction, it'll be tough to see a lot of lists built around their units.
    Maybe I'm thinking too competitively, but I think until the Tyrionic half of the army is released, Lumineth will really struggle with breaking away from being the Magic Castle army.
    Also, if you were going to Clown on Ad Mech for being tough to paint, why not Lumineth? Since they have their tiny details, thin lines of armor trim depicted in gold and a predominantly white color scheme, there have alot of detail that newer painters might struggle with.
    TLDR: Power level is one thing, but I think it was a tad bit oversold when compared to list diversity, which is a bit more important of a Tabletop con to mention imo.

  • @trailblazerlazerrazerd9027

    The Fire Slayer Dwarves need a Serious reworking. But they also need an alternative version of them, like do what they did with the Squats in Warhammer 40k. Originally they were the only kind until GW decided to write that over and make them their own badass faction, the Leagues of Votaan, with a separate lore. Instead of what they seem to have done here with the fire mercenary dwarves, which is mostly unimaginative. The Lumineth fighting each other Definitely had to be egged on by either Slaanesh or Tzeentch to spur them on to Elven magical nuclear war with each other. And knowing Nagash and Slaanesh were gonna show up and kick their teeth in doesn't exactly starting that boot from shattering their chompers and filling the mouth with blood. But the AoS world/setting has the gods or mortals who became Gods of several realms fracture. And the even the Elves and Humans in AoS don't directly work together when threatened by the Orruks, Demons/Worshippers, or Ratmen. And seeing how powerful and sophisticated the Lumineth have become and been designed as, it makes me Really want Settra and the other Tomb Kings to have their own “Realms”, many of them mostly being desert and jungle types or variations of it, even with snowy mountains thrown in. And make them something cool sounding like the Solar Golden Sphinx Lords or something that might be translated from Ancient Egyptian (which in these days is basically Arabic, French and Greek) with just as much arrogance or nearly as much as the Lumineth, but none more so than Settra himself who would probably swear to become the greatest of gods and likely will (outside of Sigmar, Techlis, Tyrion and others) but in a more neutral way like the Orruks fight everyone and Nagash hates everyone equally. But Settra would only occasionally team up with one side or another when convenient or more beneficial, sort of like the Leagues of Votaan in 40k since they're not altogether warmongers but they will fight to the bloody end if they decide on revenge or profit. They aren't entirely better than anyone else and do care about the lives of their people, but if it's out of revenge or to gain some sort of resource or riches they'd absolutely throw bodies and bombs at the problem until it's figured out. And Settra would basically become a human Chaos god similar to the Emperor of Mankind from 40k. Just more like the actual Chaos Gods in that rebirthing/reforming his champions and more high level units would take more effort than say a basic soldier type. And they'd probably have a mix of ancient Egyptian culture with huge spaceship boats and flying cities like the Black Pyramid or the Black Stone Fortresses. Each one, a megacity the size of planet or damn near it, with their own internal cultures but an overall united ideal that they serve Settra the Unperishing with their life and death. And while he shouldn't be perfectly unbeatable, the Tomb king of all Tomb Kings should probably have a buff when his troops die. Particularly when fighting the Lumineth, Idoneth, Orruks and Legions of Nagash. The Stormcast Eternals and Fyreslayers might do significant damage though. And doing all this talking about Settra makes me wish Bela'kor had his own godhood and faction as well since I think his hate for the Chaos Gods would transcend the Old World and into the Mortal Realms unless they made something happen like Karl Franz kill him in a major battle. I would have wrote it that Bela'kor was still bound to the chaos Gods. But he would also essentially carve out his own freedom from them by like separating his mind or something, so Bela'kor the Servant would still crown a Chaos Champion, but just like Nagash eating Mors and becoming the God of Death, Bela'kor could finally do what he attempted in Total Warhammer 3 - becoming a God of Shadows. And no realm would be entirely safe from his forces which would probably be mostly vampire type units stolen from Nagash since the Darkness is their friend too because most of them can't exist in sunlight or powerful light sources without burning up and dying.

    Fun fact, one of their most recent known Ls were handed to them, not by Chaos, Death, or Destruction, but by a group of 5 Skinks, a Saurus Oldblood, and a nuclear bomb.
    There used to be this giant Godbeast called the Beastgrave. The Aelves, led by Myari Lightcaller, went there to try and commune with it to calm it down because it was afflicted by the Katophrane Curse (Very long story, basically death can no longer stick making the mountain literally begin to starve to an agonizing state of pseudo-death). Unfortunately for Myari’s Purifiers, the Seraphon had another, superior plan. One might even call it a Great Plan. They dispatched a squad of 5 Skinks (Xepic, Huachi, Tok, the Chameleon Skink Otapatl, and the Skink Starpriest Kixi-Taka The Diviner), and their bodyguard/friend/muscle Klaq-Trok with a literal doomsday device to fucking explode the mountain instead.
    Well, the Seraphon won and presumably escaped out into the Gnarlwood, where they’re presumably either waiting to go home again or reinforcing the Hunters of Huanchi while waiting for Seraphon forces to break through to Talaxis and recover the relics therein. Myari’s Purifiers were likely not so lucky, given the Hunter’s Policy of “No scales, no pulse”

      This is wrong, the seraphon didn’t get to exact their plan, the mountain (was never called a godbeast) was cracked open when kragnos awakened due to the lifequake, caused by Alarielle, after Kragnos escaped, the curse was set on Gnarlwood and everyone in the mountain was allowed to escape, and they’re all immortal because of the curse, so no one died and now they’re all in Gnarlwood. But you’re right on one thing, there is a seraphon and Lumineth warband

    The big downsides to LRL are twofold and interrelated: 1) they require a lot of different units and a great deal of finesse to operate effectively (it's not like half of the Destruction armies, where the army practically runs itself), and 2) the LRL model range is both big and EXPENSIVE.
    Basically, if you're coming to AoS from the 40K side, think of Lumineth Realm-Lords as the local equivalent of AdMech in terms of starting an army (except replacing all the AdMech Not!Magic with Elf Actual!Magic). High skill ceiling, but with a similarly high skill floor. A relatively new model range that looks really cool, that you're paying a premium for.
    If you want an army that's cheaper to collect and/or doesn't ask you to juggle lots of game mechanics, consider Ogor Mawtribes instead. Ate Dwarves, Ate Elves, Ate Humans, Simple As.

    Honestly elves using hammers and mauls as weapons is not too far fetched. Elves are master craftsmen too, like the dwarves. Also when you're taller it's easier to bonk someone in the head with a warhammer. What is a manlet swarf gonna do with a hammer? Break the toes? (Which is still painful)

      This also ties in well with the nation of Syar, master craftsmen and workers of stone, metal and all manner of materials, they even hold crafting contests where all those in the realms are invited, and they have beaten the best dwarf craftsmen (there may or may not be bias)

    Age of sigmar always had a weird place in my heart: on one hand by the time I realized what Warhammer is age of sigmar had already been released so I was spared the drama. On the other hand learning about what happened with the end times infuriated me by it's seer stupidly not to mention horrible early release.
    Your videos have really helped found that spark I needed to really enjoy the setting and everything it has to offer. When it comes to 40k The Tau are my favourite xeno, in fantasy couldn't care less about the knife ears, age of sigmar elves have really won me over and thanks to you my love for them has only grow.

    Note: They arent actually monsters on the table top.... But if you play lots of sentinels archers, use their MW stacking, and aren't "in tune" to know that the Unleash Hell command got nerfed, then you can play a shooty hedgehog that casual players wont know how to deal with. So the salt
