He was a lot more relaxed and talkative in front of a camera before his brain injury in the next race at Adelaide. Still the same cheeky, understated character but that impact really took something out of him. He would start trying to tell a joke, then get it wrong or forget his lines and leave a long awkward silence...people thought it was part of the act and that he was a genius comedic troll, which I guess suited him. Mad respect for him to come back and win 2 world titles, almost impossible to beat on his day
i agree, but he seems to be much better these days, watch some recent interviews, he is talking a lot more (with a perfect english) and his sense of humor is back
@@chakko007 Funny you mention that, I noticed that too back then. Yet he was able to perform and win two championships against arguably the best driver at the time. Unlike Karl Wendlinger who was never the same again after his shunt in Monaco 1994.

@@Daniele-vk4mo that's great to hear him doing well 🙂
If I recall correctly, his wife Eerja (now his ex-wife) also said that he had changed after his accident.
@@chakko007 didn't know that, thank you for sharing this information I will research more about it
@@rondog540 I recommend watching Kalle Rovanperä's videos with Mika and David Coulthard, super fun, they have a great chemistry
Almost lost his life in the next race at Adelaide.
That's why he's so chatty. He wasn't that chatty after his accident anymore...
And almost replaced by Magnussen again
yes then they was talking who would replace hakkinen for 96 sub bench

One of his underrated performances
Mika casually almost undoes his pants to answer a question. Good thing it wasn’t hemorrhoids.
Whoa. I didn't know (or forgot) that Hakkinen had this right before his horrifying Adelaide crash.
'Mika,are you alright?'
A respectful '........Yes....'
F1 fans be like: can you please stop talking about appendixes, FOR 5 MINUTES!?
eddie irvine austria 2000, coulthard brazil 95 was tonsillitis
awesome video
WHAT IS IT WITH F1 DRIVERS GETTING APPENDICITUS?
BECAUSE WEIGHT REDUCTION.
Most common general surgical procedure, so incidence of it is actually quite high
@@CyanRooper Thanks for giving me the only correct answer.
@@potatogirlcultist19 but its weird that hakkinen 95, irvine 00 and then nothing for 20 years
3 in the last three decades isn't that many, probably the expected return for a tiny cross section of male population aged 18-40
According to the internet, and internet is never wrong, an appendectomy makes you reliably faster.
Input .....
You know the FIA doctors wouldn’t let him race with that fresh of a surgery nowadays
Mika, about as funny as a fart in a space suit
so HAK had his appendix out and went faster, SAI had his appendix out and went faster, who's next??? 🙂
Jan Magnussen almost replaced him again in next race.
australia 96? they do discuss this in the race he wasnt mentioned
Did he go on to win? (I’ve heard it’s quite common) 😂🤣
He did... two years later.
but he finished 2nd in japan best result all year
