And as for people complaining, people have been complaining since day 1. The 50s f1 cars were heavily restricted compared to pre war machines, 60s f1 cars were lacking power compared to sports cars, 80s turbo cars had hurt racing compared to the previous decades, 90s cost were rising and refuelling was only adding artificial chaos, and on and on.

Well I guess you never watched 1999 season... Mika retired 5 races and Ervine retired 1. Ervine won against Hakkinen in 2 races. 1 in Austria, when Coulthard pushed Hakkinen to last place and Hakkinen came 3rd that race 2nd was in Malaysia when Schumacher played teammate and let Ervine be in 1st place and slowed down Mika during the race. 2 points from a championship is the overstatement of the century.

Eddie got punched, turned and said words to the effect of "this is the best publicity I'll ever get". Eddie and Jordan were the most entertaining thing about F1 in those days.
