I had the pleasure of a 1999 DC2 here in Melbourne (Australia).... in which I clocked up 165,000 kms (from new) & enjoyed 13 track days during my 5.5 years of ownership. I was utterly addicted to the VTEC scream of the B18C engine, the wonderfully slick gearbox, dynamic handling & complete marvel of Honda engineering. Even 17 years on & after driving higher spec cars, the memories of the DC2 remain as some of my best driving experiences ==> I would buy another one anytime, for future track fun!

Ok so I’ve had hundreds of cars, mostly BMW’s and Alfa’s, but a number of Hondas including 5 x Accord Type R’s, two Prelude 2.2’s, and two DC2 Type R’s.
In all the cars I’ve owned, the best chassis by far was the DC2. Without doubt. It’s the most rewarding car I’ve ever, ever driven. As a standard car on 15” wheels, they’re literally unbelievable, just like a race car. So utterly raw.
The worst thing I did to my second Milano Red one was modify it. After Tein Type flex coilovers, whiteline roll bars, bracing everywhere and 16” team dynamics, it was literally ruined, fidgety and prone to understeer.
The best thing I did was a buddy club shirt shift, Tegiwa manifold and decat, and Spoon N1. Crazy, crazy VTEC.
Painted the car twice, then it got exported to Holland. Ended up spending £26000 on it over 4 years, including two resprays and two sets of Honda decals. I stuck a carbon bonnet on in the end as they’re so heavy and rust badly on the leading edge. It started rotting badly under the inner rear arches, so much so that it needed significant welding in Holland. Shame. Rot boxes they are.
Fabulous, fabulous car, as is the Accord Type R.

Jay, I love the videos but you need to find some way of recording the intake noise a bit better, I don't think I'm alone in saying I don't really care what the exhaust of this car sounds like and that extends (at least for me) to most of the other cars. Been a long-time viewer and I love the format of everything and how it has evolved, but you absolutely need to find a way to get better intake sound noise even if that means better cabin mics or placing a mic by the air filter or something. Especially true with a car like this where intake noise is a sizeable part of the experience! Cheers

There's a lot of mythical BS spouted about the JDM models.
This particular model being driven above has WORSE brakes in comparison to a UKDM for starters. 260mm diameter front and 240mm diameter rear for the 'superior JDM' vs 280mm front and 260mm rear. So the UKDM has better brakes.

Long time coming, this review. I've been out for a passenger ride in one of these. Sounds fantastic, didn't feel like much power. At the time I had my Clio Williams and would've loved to compare them but said owner wasn't up for a swap to compare.
So James, as you've had the chance to drive both. Which is best??

Used to own a UKDM Milano Red DC2 about 10 years ago, only had 50k miles on the clock. Bought it for £4600 and sold it a year later for £6k. The only thing I found was with the standard 15" wheels the tyres would roll quite a lot on the rim due to large side wall area. The JDM DC2's from memory had a standard 16" wheel. Non the less great cars.

I wouldn't say the "final word", later came the dc5 and then the fd2, both FWD, 8400rpm redline, higher compression, a refined VTEC and larger displacement at the expense of some weight increase (60kg with the DC5) and nicer interiors. I own a DC5 but I would say the DC2 would make me happier on track days.

Why do these cars sound like they have a loose spring rattling about in the exhaust? I think your comment about modern performance cars is bang on, I can imagine they are completely frustrating as the only way to get the performance you paid for is to do a track day or use a disused airfield or some such thing. I want a car like that where you can thrash it to within an inch of its life and not be braking the speed limits .... too much! :)

100% especially as everyone is asking for over 10k for one of these now, sure a clean one fine but people with cars way over 100k miles that have been kept outside are asking for 10k which is a hell of a lot for a car that has or will rust badly. Especially when you consider that in the current market the S2000 is actually cheaper than the dc2 for a better car in better condition!!

    • @MrGrentch
      @MrGrentch Před 3 lety +7

@@scwarzewaffe85 JDM can be just as bad unless fresh off the boat. Though the Euro spec ones had rear wheelwell covers which actually made the rust more likely. One major issue is that a joint where the inner wheelarch joins the sills is open when it should have been sealed. Water gets in and the next thing you know are small bubbles on outside, large rot on the inside and big bills. This fault seems to be only on the R's as I noticed JDM Integras in the rest of the range have closed seams there.
I've always been paranoid about the tinworm and growing up having relatives who are into classics increased this. When I got my Type R I flooded the sills and everywhere else I could with waxoyl and latterly bilt hamber wax and examine and top it up once a year. At this stage I've probably added the same weight in wax that Honda took out in weight saving. 😄 Though 15 years on, daily driver, parked outside in all weathers and zero rust.

@@kenzohkw At the time Honda sent their dealers instructions on how to do just that with all their models(I found a copy on ebay), but it seems customers didn't go for it for some reason? Though when new they had IIRC a 5 year anti (visible)corrosion warranty. The visible part is the thing. On the Tegs anyway, by the time you see a coin sized area of bubbles on a rear wheelarch, it's usually a horror story below.

I own EP3 for 15 years now, and I bought DC2 later 8th years ago. I don't think I would buy EP3 as a daily, if I owned dc2 first. If I had to own just 1 car, it would be EP3, but If I had to replace one of them, I can see better daily cars as EP3 that I can afford. So looks like DC2 on top for me. Concentration implies resistance, whereas in attention there is no form of resistance. Resistance arises when there is fear. When you give attention, there is no entity who attends. When the brain is aware of how inattentive it is, then that very awareness of inattention becomes attention.
