Psyondrax1 thank you, I dont have the patience for a video this long.
Doing the Lord's work
This is wonderfull, i allmost completed my secound bullwhip. my first was a try with some other methods, but this is PRO!
thank uuuuuu
I followed this tutorial about 5 or 6 years ago and learned to craft my own bullwhip. It has remained a treasured memory and to this day, i have that whip mounted, and i smile with pride every time i look at it. Thank you so much for your amazing content and lessons. I am so happy to see your channel still going strong! Your content is, and always has been, fantastic. Keep up the great work, and thank you again for an experience i will treasure all of my life!
I am a Teacher.
I teach Blacksmithing, Woodworking, Firearms, and Survival Skills.
You, sir, have the heart of a teacher. I greatly appreciate the quality of education that you've given here, and the simply beautiful final product.
I found this video by accident, but have subscribed to your page, and look forward to seeing what else you have to offer.
Great job, and thank you very much for renewing my faith a little in the upcoming generation:)
MerchantMonk what school do you teach at? and where is it
Thank you so much for the kind words!
Jaime Bautista, I teach privately out of my home shop now to a limited few (in the North Texas Area) my career path changed and I just don't have the time anymore.
I guess there's always youtube :)
Where do you teach blacksmithing?
I actually really appreciated the fact that you kept repeating yourself with the over/under and with the top-right parts, because I was confused regarding the top-right/top-left, until you said it once more, about half way through the video or so, and it clicked, and it suddenly instantly looked 100 times easier to do. When I get a bunch of paracord, I will for sure try this. I have always wanted a nice whip.
I'm not into whips but I just watched this entire tutorial because you were so engaging. I'm normally so frustrated with people trying to explain stuff on youtube but this was so refreshing to watch. I'm gonna go order some extra paracord!
thanks so much! really appreciate it!

You apologize for putting off making this video for so long, while wearing a tee-shirt that says “PROCRASTINATORS UNITE! TOMORROW”. Freaking priceless!!!
+coldstares
I TOTALLY AGREE
Bump
Ingenuous idea! I've made two whips so far and they rock! And they work well for chasing off the coyotes around the farm m
😆😆😆
I just said that to a friend lol it is priceless right on👍👊
This is one of the best tutorials of anything I've ever seen on youtube.
WOW 1,000,000 VIEWS!!! Thank you so much everyone!
NicksWhipShop do you happen to have a break down of the length of cord used per belly?
NicksWhipShop thanks for the awesome video, What size of BB's did you used for the 650 cord?
he tells you for each belly what the length of the strands are

I never really thought about whips before but i stumbled onto this video and couldn't turn it off...awesome job :)
Almost finished my first bullwhip! So far, so good! Excited to see the finished project! Thanks Nick for sharing your superior whip making techniques!
That end whip demonstration was so satisfying after one hour watching all that hard work, still dunno how I ended up in here but niceeee
2M! Thank you so much everyone, more videos to come!
@Mia Rissler it should be. I've used one before.
sorry dunno if anyone commented on this, but most people don't know that giving the electrical tape a little pull/ stretch makes it much stronger, that's where all the strength comes from

You have the patience of jobe . I'm in my 60"s and used whips on farms for livestock as a young boy . The ones I used had a type of crown knot on the head . I've always been interested in knowing how they where made , I never gave thought to the amount of time creating a whip . I'm so happy to come across your tutorial . Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge .
What an excellent tutorial! I have made inner tube bullwhips before, and have yet to make a paracord whip. A much better video than many I have watched, I am eager to begin. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us!
thanks so much nick for this tutorial!
i have (with your help) been able to make my own and it cracks sooo loud!
i will upload a video to my channel once i am finished editing
thanks
I like this guy
alex cool I felt that way as well when I watched this. There are just those kinds of people that you automatically like from the way they look or their voice or the way they talk and this guy is one of them.
Very cool Nick..! I used 2b a Professional Horse Racing Jockey & made whips 4a lot of famous riders; Eddie Arcero, Steve Cauthen, Laffit Pincay & more..! Now I'm making bullwhips..!? Thank U

Okay I just came across this 2 days ago and went out to the store and got all the materials. I had a few hiccups along the way and it didn't come out perfect but I'm pretty damn proud of it. I just finished it an hour ago. Gonna spend tomorrow practicing cracks! Thanks so much for making this video
Thanks for the video.. I have been done craft my first bullwhip for 2 days... Greeting from malaysia thank you very much!
Thank you so much for sharing this.A friend recently gave me a traditional Hungarian Bull whip, and i came on here to see/learn how to make it crack and found your vid.
I will be making one of these for sure! Thanks once again.
Wow! This was mind-blowing. And yes, as some of the other commenters have said, I am not sure which was better. The whip making or the way you used it at the end. Simply amazing! Well done and thank you. One of these days I will definitely give this a try.
I am currently watching this as I make my first whip. Seeing as how this is my first and I have seen your newer videos with updated material, I'm ok with having "lesser " material such as electrical tape as a binder. Thank you so much for these tutorials. They are very in-depth and very thorough.
Excellent tutorial. I had to unravel the end of my whip in order to replace the fall and with your guidance it was super easy. Thank you again
Finally made one!
It's been on my todo list for a couple years. It came up a foot and a half short, then quickly stretched over the end of the core after a few cracks. I had to rebraid the end and reattach the fall. It's short and quick but it works. I have and 8 ft. Leather bullwhip and I think this short one actually helped understand the "physics " a little better. I look forward to using your newer methods and trying some different types. Thank you for taking the time to make the videos and sharing .
Great tutorial now i can finally realize my dream of being a Belmont.
Well, i have an advance calculus exam for tomorrow and here i am learning to make a bullwhip.
Yağız Savcı so how did you do on it 😂🤷♂️
Stumbled in here and stayed for the whole video. I'm getting a vise and some para-cord!
i am only 10 years old and i managed to make this whip i greatly appreciate the video thanks
Fantastic Haon! Glad you found it helpful.
Wow! This is truly impressive! You are a great teacher. Can't wait to give this a try!
this was the most informational hour and twenty minutes of my life. thanks allot!
Means a lot, thank you!!
After so many years of wanting to make and use a whip, I finally finished making my first whip this morning and started cracking it (just some advice for new people, start with basic whip techniques and wear a shirt when your a first time whip cracker, got myself on my back and across my bellybutton and it hurts :D ), took me about 26 hours accumulated over a period of 4 days, so so so much fun. the whip didn't turn out as nice as the one in the video, but i do know where i went wrong with it. Planning to make another whip asap. Thank you for the awesome whip tutorial Nick, it was a huge help and made one of my dreams come true. I hope one day i can get my hands on one of your pro made whips.
Very precise, detailed and interesting instructions. I don’t think I have ever sat through a video this long. You held my attention. Thanks.
Thanks Kenneth! I appreciat it.
this was the most informative, in depth, well put together, informational video I have ever seen. going to have to try this someday
thank you!!
Very. Perseis. Video. With good instructions. It is so nice. Define. And instructional video that actually has instructed then it. Thank you.
welcome, thanks for watching!
This guys the bob ross of whip making! I wish everyone could explain things like this guy!!
Great tutorial!
I finished my first whip today thanks to you.
Since I am from Sweden, I only had to convert to metric system. Thank you for a detailed walkthrough!
First time watching you but did anyone else notice how nice/ hypnotic his voice was in the intro
As well can you use wood for the middle and a larger piece to use less parachord and I know it will not look as good but I'm cheap, don't have time with school and I like to do things fast and worse than slow and good and only use one layer at the end
Thanks Nick for the video. I found it very easy to follow along and it has made me start to be more and more interested in making whips to keep busy. Thanks for the time and effort you put in to all your videos.
+Nicholas Davis you bet man, glad to help!
That was very well explained and I now have an awesome whip.Thank you.
This tutorial was so easy to follow and nicely paced, that I can tell you how to make one without looking at the video a second time! Although I will admit I come back to make sure every once and a while 😅
Made a baby 3'4" bull whip. Thank you so much for this video. Wish I could post a picture of it on here.
+Maria Harris welcome! glad you found it helpful!
I used a size that is said, but not enough to cover the entire lash????????????
So after befriending the wildlings and fighting the boltons, you've settled down and became a whip maker?
haha, yes!
Not sure how I got here. But I like this guy. He's chill
Got a recommendation out of the blue
Nick..... A+ 100%
I have made 2 of these whips, the second one far better than the first. I just wanted a whip that would crack and wow my whips are loud and they feel fantastic. I'm 60 and I just made my first whip by watching your tutorial over and over, your method is GOLD, Mega Thanks. I'm currently working on my 3rd whip, as I have 2 sons and we all want one. Smile.
Fun fact, I just purchased a roll of artificial sinew and hockey tape, game changers.
Next, I'm going to attempt your mini bullwhip, wish me luck.
Your new, old fan.
Best to you and all you love.
It may have taken me 3 hours over 5 days to make it but I did it with a few modifications such as when I couldn't find a steel rod I cut a plastic hangar and used that for a rod and it worked great I also used a Harry Potter book instead of a concrete block. It took me a put of effort to make the whip because I had no vice to help as another hand. The last thing that I changed was the inner large paracord that was filled with BBs but I only had the one small size so I used that and it worked but I had to squeeze each BB into the small cord which took hang half of the time to make the whip.
BTW thank you soooo much for making this tutorial because I have learned a lot and your instructions were easy to follow.
i already made the snake whip it took all day but it turned out great
Great!
Lamas
Thank you for this and all your other tutorials!! I watched this one to start and followed up with your newer ones and finished a pretty decent whip last night! Thanks to you I've found a new creative hobby!!
same and now we get to make it with recycled material if we choose to hehe! im going to try to salvage my leftover materials for this!
This vid was pure meditation for me! Calm and patient voice, no stressing on making a "quick video", and just an awsome vid all in all. Have a whip myself and always wondered how it was made...THANK you for this.
Very welcome, thanks for watching more videos on the way!
Jon Snow making a whip. :) Great tutorial man. Thanks a lot!
haha thanks man!
or a young Eddie Vedder ... ;-)
I had absolutely no interest in making a bull whip. All I wanted to see was some cool Paracord stuff. But this was such an awesome, detailed, step-by-step video, I HAVE TO MAKE ONE NOW... THANKS A LOT.... :):):) Great video. I have to make me one now. ***** (five stars)
Working on my first one, Brother and you weren't kidding. A VICE WOULD MAKE THINGS A LOT EASIER.... this is tough without the vice...
*****
While plaiting, try tying the whip handle to the top of a doorframe or something, and plaiting down. The taping can still be somewhat annoying without a vice, but I actually prefer plaiting from a hook than from a vice.
superb tutorial Nick , so clear and concise from beginning to end. Just finished my first whip, super pleased with it, not tried it yet but looks cool. Just by accident I used some different colour chord and it really helped to see where I was sometimes when the finish layer got a bit complicated. I'M HOOKED !!!!!
Thank you for making this video, Nick! Your method of teaching is very gentle and easy to understand for newbies in the world of whip making, like myself. I appreciate you taking the time to put this tutorial together. I’ve wanted to build a bullwhip for the longest time, and you helped make it a possibility. Thank you!
Thanks for watching! Glad the videos help.
no better man than Jon Snow to teach us how to make a whip 😀
dude, really, I wondered why you said this but once he started with the making I realized there is a striking similarity
Hi Nick
I was wondering if there's anyway to calculate for the amount of cord needed to plait for a certain length of a whip? Let's say 9-ish feet bullwhip?
Wow! I can not begin to express how professionally well done this lesson is, THANK-YOU !! I only watched this time as my paracord supplies(LARGE kit)is on it's way. I enjoy crafts and thought it would work for my 2 (babies)DOGS to get new collars and to date I have yet to actually see one on a dog. I was doing exactly as you mentioned ...pause,rewind.pause...with the tying and yet your lesson from start to finish was so well instructed and visually helpful that I have just decided that a good friend would be getting this for Christmas. I know that it will be great to work with this video .To achieve a well made whip to be taught how to work it and pass to his grandsons, what fun for them. Thank-you again and Very Nicely Done.
Just wanted to say thank you for posting this video. Have a 10ft nylon bull whip I was gifted 22 years ago that is in need of repair. With your video I should be able to re tie the hitch and create a new fall.
I don't care about whips but this dudes voice is so calming
awesome vid!
+DAVID MUNOZ (NORCAL 515) thanks david!
WOW!!! Now I have a new project! Thankyou. Very informative.
After about 2 months, I have FINALLY! completed this whip lol. Due to my adhd and oppressive school work load, it took forever, but nick, Bravo man! I am genuinely impressed with how this turned out. This is the finishing touch to my indiana jones fit, and I am GREATLY pleased with it. (P.S. from my cat) "dear nick, I hate you for making this video because everytime the white fuzzy thing on a rope is in my reach and I try to get it, it makes a loud noise and I run away. Please take this away from all cat owners." -sincerely, Goose
Your name should be "NicksWhipShop - The Bob Ross of WhipMaking"
+BurgerBandit haha, thanks!
Also I think you should change the caption at 47:30 to 25' instead of 24, I came up a foot short even though I followed it to the point. Great design though, I'll be making more whips like this! And do you think you could create a tutorial/give me numbers on how long I should make my strands to make a really long whip like 10-12'?
if I were to want to make an 8ft whip, what lengths would I need in cordage?
Thank u so much for the generous tutorial and I would just like to say I’ve been watching this video for four months to make a “belt” for my extreme cat woman costume (I go all out every year most of the time making a new weapon or real prop each time) and I would like to happily say my whip is finally done and looking fly after 30 hours of work (6 of which was figuring out he handle braid no joke) thank u! It was fun!
Just finished mine! Your instruction is the best! Really appreciate it!
In this video; Jon Snow shows you how to make a neat whip!
AustinofEarth he looks like if Samwell Tarly and Jon Snow had a baby together.
Can you please make a vid for a 8 footer
do some scaling math for the length difference and follow the same steps...
I decided to try and make a legit whip for a cat woman costume and your tutorial was by far the most detailed and easy to follow video I found. I was able to make a fantastic whip on the first try and I was able to crack it pretty decently after just a few tries. Thank you so much for being so generous with your knowledge, I may just have a new obsession!
Just wanted to say thank you. I just made my first whip and learned a lot. Mostly that I have so much to learn. Again thank you.
Wow this is incredibly cool man! I watched the whole vídeo and now I want to do one of those, amazing and beautiful job!
Thanks!
Gabo Derflinger haha your picture! i thought I had a hair on my screen xD
my fingers hurt still lol but worth it I did the while thing in 3 days and pulled a few all nighters
Me as well!
joey dodge i started the bullwhip at 4:00 and ended at 12:00
I was in terrible mood today ,and then I played your tutorial. You have brightened my day.
You're amazing!!
Back for Nick discovered artificial sinew😅 Wow This video brings back so many memories for me. I used to watch it over and over trying to make a whip until I got where I'm at today. Thanks so much Nick for all u do!
You're welcome man, it's fun to see the changes and remember those times.
Took a shot every time the word "bind" was used, passed out after 15 mins...
+Torpid N1ghtmare Salud!

Hej Nick great vid! How would you scale this down? If say i wanted to go 1 feet shorter should I just take 2 feet of all the lengths?
If you go through the video, you can probably find ratios? I know this was 5 years ago, but if you still haven't figured it out, you could this way I'm sure.
@@gabrielp1306 did you just seriously reply to a 5 year old comment xD? Wow
@@nielsniels18 yes, yes I did.
@@gabrielp1306 honestly I love zombie comments, I have usually forgotten the original comment and so I get a blast from the past.
Your level of detail is excellent, more CZcamsrs should practice this approach to teaching. Thank You!
I started out the night looking how to make a dog leash and seen your whip video and started watching to see how a whip was made. You are so easy to learn from and do such a good job teaching that i watched your whole video and want to try it. Your so easy to listen to with easy direction. Thanks for the video let you no how it went.
35:05 is that pantera playing in the background, and also do you recommend a website to buy paracord for very cheap?
Lol, amazon sells 500 ft rolls for $30, and you can buy 1/4 inch there as well. The stuff that comes off the roll isn't 550lb though, it's a lower number, but it should work fine. If you really want to be sure, just find a store and buy the expensive stuff, and see if some friends would buy one or two for like $20 or something.
Hey Nick, so did everything even with the extended strands (24ft) and wound up almost 10 inches short. I barely passed the electrical taped core at the end and only went onto the uncovered core about 1-2 inches. It still cracks but I am just curious what I may have done wrong here.
Hi Noah, might be the brand of paracord. Try these lengths.
6ft, 16 Plait Bullwhip (Assuming 10" Handle)
FIRST BELLY: SECOND BELLY: OVERLAY:
2 x 11 ft 2 x 17 ft 2 x 24 ft
1 x 8.5 ft 1 x 11.5 ft 1 x 20 ft
1 x 6.5 ft 1 x 9.5 ft 1 x 13.6 ft
1 x 5 ft 1 x 10.5 ft
1 x 8 ft
1 x 6.5 ft
1 x 5 ft
thanks Nick! It is military grade so I have no idea what happened. Also could you shoot me measurements for an 8 footer? Can find definitive measurements anywhere
I also came up about 10 inches short
Thanks for this tutorial Nick. I've been able to make my own 10 ft, 12 plait, Indiana jones Raider style bullwhip using a few other of your tutorials as well. Much thanks my friend!
Thank you for taking the time to make and share this guide with the world. You're awesome!
Very nice video ! Can u link me where you bought those BBS ?
+Pavel Szabo any stainless or lead bb, 4.5mm diameter for 650lb paracord. dont pack too tight. I bought "daisy outdoor" brand.
Bob ross and Indianna Jones have official had a child
Thank you so much! I've just finished my whip following this video and despite few difficulties the whip crack so well!
Dude, I just finished my whip and it works wonderfully. A first go but awesome. Thank you for your instruction.
you should check your messurements, my 20ft strands didn't make it to the end!! I'm 1'3" short!
Brandon Duntz having the same issue. Did you figure out how to fix it?
Melvin Romero don't pull them so tight towards the handle. After cracking it a few dozen times it all all started getting loose, pull the strand tight more towards the end so when you crack it, it doesn't pull the strands towards the end. Hope this was helpful!
I don't even know why I watched this, but the ending where you hear the first sonic boom and the resonating echoes was so worth it.
I don't have any of the materials for this project but as soon as I do I am going to attempt to do it, this filled in a lot of blanks thank you.
Thank you so much for the last three days I have been watching your tutorial and I am proud to say that I have successfully built my own whip very proud of it thank you very much for the newfound knowledge
Just finished me second with fallowing your instructions. The transition seems like it’s hanging at the top of the handle. May need to watch your newer videos to fix it
Oooo now I can really give my kids something to cry about 🤕
thank you for the infomative video. I liked that you talked to your viewers not at them like some informative videos do. great job.
Thanks for watching!
Don’t apologise for the video length, it required it. It was super in-depth and Excellently done. The only “problem” I have is the audio, which doesn’t effect the usefulness of the video at all.
hey long is the metal rod howblong should the metal rod be
10"
Something me and that metal have in common
personally I would use a drinking straw to add the BBS to the hollow cord.
Additionally, you have a voice that is practically made for this sort of thing.
+Aaron Johnson thanks! I now use brass tubing to insert bbs.
+NicksWhipShop why not use a funnel to fill them in?
+Florian Wahl I can't find a funnel that can fit bbs through nicely...mine are too big or too small
+Aaron Johnson i used a ball chain taped to a piece of wire and just pulled it through it worked great and only took a couple minuets.
Thanks for taking the time for sharing your knowledge on basic whip making. I made one from King of Random and haven''t rolled it out to make it crack but your method looks great and easy to follow. Gonna try this for sure.
Excellent clear and simple to follow demonstration, truly appreciated! Thank you!
Can I use paracore?
what is paracore?
Oh my bad I ment paracord =D
no, you cannot use paracord for this project! lol
Oh Alright =D
Kladdboy Studios
approximately how many ft of parracord do you need?
Im sure he said something around 300 ft in the beginning but you will probably have leftover
Okay thank you
149 feet
That was a real pleasure, I just bought a 8 ft leather one fun so far. A really fantastic tutorial from start to finish, the plaiting was superbly explained. Well done, I learned a lot, bless you and thanks, Peter
I finished my first one in 3 days and your video help me so much. best tutorial I've ever watched.
