Such an awesome review. I really appreciate you taking the time to make it. Of course, being a total “Ed Head” myself, I always wondered how close my MXR EVH117 pedal was to his original. Very informative! Don’t stop! 🙏👍🤘5️⃣1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ =\//-/=
2:20 "hardwire bypass" or "true hardwire bypass" is a fancy marketing term Dunlop made up. When the pedal is off, your guitar signal still passes through some of the pedal's circuitry (as opposed to TB which routes the circuit straight from input to output). My understanding is that the extra circuitry is supposed to simulate true bypass while being more discrete than a buffered pedal, but in many cases the extra circuitry involves a buffer anyway, so it just becomes dishonest advertising. Nice tone and playing, by the way! I heard no difference between the two pedals.
Nice video just subscribed. I think, and I know nothing, is that the EVH sounds a bit more bass heavy than the MXR. The MXR (thru my speakers) sounded a bit more clear and less bass heavy which made it more pleasing sounding I think. But they're both very close as others have noted.
Thanks for the great review! To me the 117 sounds more like DLR era VH while the EVH sounds more post DLR era. Warmer and swooshier. I believe both are true bypass unless you get an older 117. This is probably a 117R. Was going for the EVH but hearing this I prefer the 117R.

Also I have a bunch of Eddie type videos, with his detune eventide tone and others.
