    Make sure that you find the steel pivot pin that fell out of the DISA valve. Mine did the same thing, disa valve came apart but the steel pin went into cylinder #5 and punched a hole right through the piston and fell into the oil pan! That's an automatic new engine!

    • @N5XGarage
      @N5XGarage  Před 5 lety +1

      Found it just above the plate that covers the pistons from the bottom of the block. Removed it. I managed to fix it without buying a whole new engine. Kept the steel pivot and piston

    You don't have to remove the intake manifold. Just move the alternator out of the way. There's plenty of room to remove the small Disa from the "inside" of the manifold. I've done this at least twice.

      Hi, Jeff. don't have to remove the manifold? Thats good to know! now the question for me is how to remove the alternator! I have a 2007 530xi E60 N52 - i hope NOT removing the manifold still applies. if anyone knows of a video for the alternator removal i would appreciate it. This was a great video and thanks!

    How did you remove the second disa valve? Did you have to unscrew the 1st disa valve outside the manifold?

    • @N5XGarage
      @N5XGarage  Před 4 lety

      Small Disa valve has it's own set of screws to be removed without the need of removing the Big disa valve

      @@N5XGaragethanks, ended up following your process. Should've just done that from the beginning shortcuts turn out longer.
      Ended up finding the big disa flappers in my cylinder 6. No wonder I was never able to fix that misfire. Luckily these thing run big
      I puzzled it back together to see if anything was missing and looked completely snapped in two pieces. Hope this clears it, I won't find out till tomorrow.
      Thanks again for the video man! Really appreciate it!

    How do I put new disk valve on

    • @N5XGarage
      @N5XGarage  Před 5 lety +1

      Verify that you have the stage 3 intake manifold. Only that one uses the Disa valves. It uses 2, one in the outside near the throttle body (big disa valve) and the other one on the inside side (small disa valve).

      Not sure but I suspect the steel pin goes down inside its hole and allows the flap to get out from its place then the pin can fall out of the hole and sucked by the engine. Otherwise the pin cannot get out since it’s held in place by the wall of the manifold.
      But usually it fails to work before the pin gets out.

  • @pinoysi06

    How did you know the disa failed?

    • @N5XGarage

      Heard a really weird noise coming from the intake side before the engine started misfiring. More info on that on the following video

    • @jeffdoughty1256
      @jeffdoughty1256 Před 4 lety +3

      You may not have any warning (or very little warning). I started the car and heard rattling, wasn't sure what it was so shut it off immediately. Waited a few seconds and attempted to restart. As soon as it restarted the steel pin from the large Disa valve was sucked into the #5 cylinder and punched a hole through the piston and fell into the oil pan. The head was also damaged to the point that it had to be replaced. The walls of the #5 cylinder were scratched badly so I needed a new block. In other words, a total engine replacement! My advise is check/ replace your Disa valves if you have any codes related to variable intake or have over 80k miles.
