Original Artefacts Ep. 8--WILLIAMSON, KRIGSTEIN, KURTZMAN

This episode see a page from Al Williamson's turn on Star Wars, Bernie Krigstein's WWI aerial dogfight story for Aces High, and Harvey Kurtzman scripts and illustrates a story about a mutant child who becomes top advisor to a banana republic dictator.

Thanks for another great video! This was very informative and well researched, I really appreciated it. Another detail that stood out to me on the Williamson page was how he distinguishes between the stone texture of the Ewok’s spear and the bone of its helmet. Also, I enjoyed the close look at Krigstein’s dynamic action panel. Thanks again!

Thanks! I appreciate you watching and commenting. I recorded the audio and then thought to myself "I left out mentioning the stone texture." Honestly, although I absolutely love Williamson's Star Wars work, I never gave a minute's thought to discussing those originals before I went over his EC work or even Blade Runner. But I see a nice page of OA and it might skip the line. By the same token. I definitely did not pick one of Krigstein's best pages. Since so much of what makes Krigstein great is the formal execution of the storytelling more so than his draftsmanship. But it's good to see artists from all stages of their development and also talk about some off-the-beaten-path pieces as well. All three artists are a joy to talk about regardless.

Dave Steven’s is the actual inker on the Jedi pages. He and William Stout helped out with inks on a couple pages each.

Yeah, I almost always do these using Heritage's site but for some reason I found this page on a different site and didn't think to check it against Heritage which does state that "Dave Stevens worked on this page in some capacity, as he signed in the lower margin." Garzon may have worked on the page as well (maybe just adding Zip?). This page has Stevens' signature to the OA buyer cropped out as does Heritage's first image. But the margins are left uncropped on their second image with Stevens' signed in pencil. It does like his work and makes sense since he adored Williamson and the feeling was mutual. I knew Stevens also worked alongside several other inkers on Chaykin's rather sad-looking adaptation of the first Star Wars film.
