Most of the comments are correctly pointing out that Wanda is not just simply sad and created the hex so I wanted to also state that she didn’t intentionally create it either, it was born from her overwhelming grief without her Consciously wanting this to happen, in fact she was confused as to how it even happened for a large part of the show
Confused but entirely willing to keep it up knowing controlling the minds of a whole town isn’t really a good thing lol
@@maadacoomber9090 yes I agree, she doesn’t understand the implications tho, she doesn’t understand what entirely is going on up until the most recent episode, she wasn’t willing to give up vision again, she also has children now. She isn’t willing to give up what she has right now, whether real or not and I think it’s completely understandable given what she’s been through, the point was that she didn’t intentionally do what she did and didn’t understand how she did it
I agree with a couple of points he made but like most marvel critics, he overlooked the more complex themes just because of a bit of cgi. No salt tho🙂.
Exactly, Wanda's powers work like that, she's not aware when she alters reality sometimes..

I think the commercials were clever. In case someone doesn’t know it was
Ep. 1: ToastMate 2000. The beeping represents the bomb that killed Wanda’s parents.
Ep. 2: Strücker. Strucker was the name of the guy who experimented on Wanda and Pietro.
Ep. 3: Hydra Soak. I’ll let you figure that one out on your own.
Ep. 5: Lagos. Lagos was the name of the town that Wanda accidentally killed Rumlow and a lot of people on a building in Civil War. They even say: “Lagos. For when you make a mess you didn’t mean to.”
Ep. 6: Nexus, the anti-deppressant. I don’t know how to explain it but, she caused a nexus event and you’ll know what that is in Loki.
Ep. 7: Yo-magic! Episode 8 starts with Agatha absorbing magic from different witches. So she snacked on yo magic.
Oh dear, have I become Watch mojo? Nah, I can’t be that horrible.

@@youcantbeatk7006 wtf? the comment didnt have anything to do with that!
@@belenayerza5578 guys just copypasting that everywhere for some reason
this ain't about marvel, this is about wanda. consider wanda seperately from wanda, she lot everyone, her mom, her dad, her brother, vision, she's blamed for civil war, and she's tryna hold it in, but she can't, and that is why she accidentally creates a fantasy world where everything is how she'd like it to be.
@@youcantbeatk7006 i don't think anyone is saying that wanda wasn't wrong to do that, wanda knows it herself (at the end when she finally sees it herself), the shows premise is to show how grief can consume you to the point where you may not realize what you're doing, or how you're hearting people. Wanda went along with everything because she didn't realize how much she was hurting innocent people.
It feels like Alex is really unfairly judging the show this time. I didn’t even watch all the marvel movies and never read the comics, but I still get the references (Captain Marvels best friends daughter and I didnt even watch Captain Marvel), and I understand Wandas feelings. I don’t think Alex did his research or paid attention.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing I never seen captain marvel also and I knew who photon was aka Monica and I didn’t see end game and still know Wanda had to kill vision twice this show was a nod to the comics and mental health. And when he said he would never do what Wanda did I thought he’s not married lol then he came back talking about his girlfriend said he better do it for her 😂 but it’s okay I watch his channel to watch him talk about how dumb my favorite shows are but normally they are dumb lol like vampire diaries or the 100 or twilight but I still love them
well duh he's sarcastic
Oh my goodness how dare you watch and judge a TV as a standalone experience without doing hundreds of hours worth of research first.
@Yuna Kaneko Lee oh well
I mean he says the show is pretty good. He dislikes a few things and as a fan of the show I also had some issues however I do disagree with his plot progression idea. I do like how the episode's are slated.
But yeah we can listen to criticism.
As someone who is a twin like Wanda, I too would probably snap mentally if I lost my mom, dad, twin, and boyfriend and then some guy says that I can't even give my boyfriend a funeral.
same here, me and my twin are really close so that would be devastating. Maybe he would get it if he was a twin.
As someone who lost my father rather suddenly I actually reacted similarly but since I did not have magic I wrote it all but it never worked out so I just bombed everything and gave the character ptsd
And like, she lost them in very very bad ways. Like she didn't grow old with her brother, and lost parents only due to old age or something like that. Every death was traumatizing. Then she saw Vision being torn apart bit by bit
@@directiontonarnia Yeah I truly hurt for her :(
I don't know if its all for fun and jokes for alex meyers. But he missed many points in his discussion about the show and just summarize all of it and rejected facts that have the show made sense. He wasn't critical about his statement and didn't think about the people who would be affected by the things he said.
i wouldn’t say wanda is just sad, she’s lost everyone in her life. she lost her parents, her brother and then she had to kill vision *and* watch him die again after. i’m not even surprised she created a false reality where vision is alive😭
.. everyone forgets she *ALSO* just got unsnapped so Vision dying was like, a few weeks ago from her POV. This isn't some case of her obsessing over something for years. It's all fresh to her.

And if you pay attention, you'll notice that every couple of episodes depict the different stages of grief.
I strongly disagree with "All superhero movies are the same but just with diffrent characters" by that logic Black panter and Gaurdians of the galaxy are the same movie just with diffrent characters.

Same formula every time
You really picked the movies that are different. You didn't prove anyone wrong.
What he and a lot of ppl fail to realize is that this- and other marvel movies-are adaptations of the comics with a twist. Agatha calling Wanda the scarlet witch was the first time wanda’s comic book name appeared in the mcu and Monica becoming photon or spectrum is basically setting up her own show or movies or maybe captain marvel 2
Totally agreed, but I would love for Monica not to be Captain Marvel 2 but rather her own hero and maybe then doing a catch up with Carol in space?
Nobody caaaares
yes but in THIS universe we've already given Wanda the Scarlet Witch name
the show is literally all about her “sadness” it’s not supposed to be about sitcoms, the sitcoms reflect her escape from trauma as do the adverts idk how you didn’t get that
Because the sitcom parts are better that's why. I give them points for trying I guess
@@fupoflapo2386 just because theyre better doesnt mean their meaning and the reason theyre there isnt spoonfed to you.
Exactly! The sitcoms were, lets say “created,” because she loved watching sitcoms as a kid as shown in episode 8.
But the mystery of those sitcoms I think adds to the tension for some.
@@ashleypisarts In the flashback where she's with Vision as well it's clear that she's using sitcoms so she can see a happy world where life is fun and nothing bad ever lasts because "it's not that kind of show".
All the way through her life sitcoms were an escape for her, from her childhood watching them with her family despite whatever might have been going on outside and again later in her life to avoid dealing with the stress moving to a new country and the grief of losing the only family she had left.
"She is just sad"

Brother died from Ultron which she accidentally had a role in creating,
She was viewed as a terrorist for a situation she couldn't have done much about in Lagos,
She had to kill Vision and then watch him die again,
And she had to watch Vision's body disassembled as Hayward talked him down like he was nothing more then wires and metal.
She was more then just a little sad.

the commercials are referencing wandas past trauma, and slowly it gets more obvious so the 2000s one is talking about how she is depressed, and in the marvel comics is a nexus being, meaning she can change reality, like how the lagos ad references captain america civil war when she accidentally kills a bunch of people in lagos, and the toaster makes the same noise as the bomb that killed her parents. to fully enjoy the experience you do kind of need to be invested in the characters and the marvel universe.
I’d just like to clear this up, not hating or anything, but she didn’t create the world because she was “sad” literally everyone she has loved died, her parents, her brother, vision. And on top of that, since Tony died I’m guessing that the Avengers aren’t exactly giving off the same happy family vibes anymore. So in the long run, Wanda was all alone, and seeing the government disrespect Visions body, disassembling it and such, I think it was the last straw for her. Hope this helps for anyone being skeptical 🙂
also she didn't even mean to do it
Hell, the Avengers aren’t even a thing anymore. Tony is gone, Nat is gone, Cap is retired, Thor is with the Guardians, and Clint pretty much retired. The OG Avengers are no more, hell, even the Compound was destroyed. Another thing alienating her post-blip.

I would also like to add to the “Wanda isn’t just sad” comments that not only did the live of her life die, when she went to go give him a funeral, she was forced to watch them tear apart his body
I would also like to add, (IF EPISODE 8 WASN’T CLEAR) that VISION WAS THE ONLY LOVE OF HER LIFE. Her whole family is dead, she was going to buy a house (honestly that scene made me cry which makes me weak probably because I don’t think anyone else did) she has the murderer of her parents as a boss so honestly I can’t remember if she has friends, and everyone else got to see their loved ones, one more time, even Gamora, who mega died, still got to see Starlord one last time. She has literally lost everything.
So yeah she’s totally “just sad”

Well, she whoop his ass again in Civil War.
Also, don't forget that the other Avengers are going to separate ways and she all left alone:
1. Tony and Natasha are dead

Love alex but i HATE it when ppl say “all marvel movies are the same”. Spider man was abt a teenager who got powers and wanted a normal life when he was trying to be iron man, the iron man movies were abt him being captured by terrorists and making a suit that could save him, the black widow movie coming out is abt her being raised as a murderer. So they are actually VERY different from each other and those are just a few examples. If you think all of them end the same w the super hero defeating the bad guy, just watch infinity wars.
But tbh some of them still have kinda some of the same plot threads. Don't get me wrong i love superhero movies but let me honest. Some of them really resemble each other. However i do think in the MCU they actually did a pretty good job at making most of the movies feel different from each other

And hes missing that didnt only lose Vision, she lost her family, her brother, and ofc Vision TWO times
it is called the snap but ya
You’ve kinda done what we all feared, mate.
1) Wanda isn’t just “sad”, she’s cosmically depressed. She lost her parents as a child, her brother and home, then the love of her life (twice, doing it herself the first time, and watching Thanos do it the next), and then finds out that not only can’t she bury him, but the house they planned on living in has been demolished.
2) Wanda has literally never been called Scarlet Witch before in the MCU. She’s always been Wanda or “Maximoff” in the movies, since Agatha is the first to know of her actual importance.
3) Monica was affected by Captain Marvel as a child, so not only was she able to handle crossing the border four times (twice in each direction), but once she fought it, she basically unlocked Creative Mode within the Hex, since she was suddenly seeing past everything.
4) The reason they didn’t hold the secret for longer was viewer retention. If they’d kept everything a secret for too long, they’d lose a lot of viewers because most people would just assume it wasn’t going to change and leave the show, with only diehard fans remaining. You can even see this in reaction videos to episode 4, where people talk about how they’ve become re-engaged with the show since it now has a secondary plot line and shows just how the whole thing is affecting real life
Monica only crossed the border three times, unless I missed something. She went in, got thrown out, went back in.
Yeah exactly
Plus if they waited like Alex said until episode 7 more episodes have had to be released to build the characters outside of the hex
Also the part where he said all superhero movies are the same is outright rude like, what do you want it to be cheesy romance movies or horror movies, the format of villains is what makes a superhero movie a superhero movie and taking it out is stupid
Dang u said everything I was thinking
My biggest gripe with this show was that Wanda somehow got away with all of this. I was 100% on caps and her side in civil war but this there's no way she doesn't get imprisoned after this. Intentional or not
What prison on earth can hold Wanda?
I get why Wanda snapped but...she kidnapped and enslaved a whole town and also subconsciously tortured them all, which i have to assume included the kids...with her horrific trauma dreams.
Wanda wasn’t just sad. She had lost literally EVERYTHING. First her parents, then her brother, then she killed Vision and had to watch him die again. She was overcome with grief and hopelessness and I think that’s an important thing to take note of rather than claiming she did what she did simply because she was sad.
Yeah I agree. Granted what she did to the town wasn't right. But she didn't just do it because she lost her boyfriend. Its not as simple as Alex just put it. She had to go through so much trauma to be in the position she is in currently.
I feel like Alex didn't really examine the tv show that well, especially when he thought people already knew her as the scarlet witch. It wasn't mentioned anywhere in the MCU that she was the Scarlet Witch.
I mean, didn't Wanda like bomb a fucking building back in 2016 or whatever? She kinda made a LOT of people depressed too. Not saying she deserved it, just saying she was technically a terrorist, even if she didn't mean to do it. Also, her entire character is supposted to be a mentally insane manipulator...

Both opinions are necessary. All are necessary. It helps people look at it in a different light or point of view even if it may not be fully understood. Creators gotta be open to criticism anyway when reviewing stuff. Its all apart if the platform.
To be fair, he mainly watches over dramatic teen shows for his videos. His content is suited towards those shows, not gritty shows that portray severe trauma and depression through the lenses of superhero content.
Wanda's not sad. She's depressed and is having to process ALOT in a very short time. She's had to deal with her brother dying, being blamed for the Lagos incident, and her lover being killed not once but TWICE and the first time by her own hand. She thought she was at least making Vision's death meaningful by denying Thanos the Mind Stone but that sacrifice was rendered pointless by the fact he just rewound time so he could get the stone.
She's having to deal with the trauma of having to witness his death multiple times and the fact she has effectively lost everything. No home, no family, nothing and she like any person when dealing with extreme trauma and feelings often retreat to a safe space and for her it was watching old sitcoms where yeah there's a problem but it's usually wrapped up in a funny manner with hijinks abound.

So when Wanda described big nothingness inside her and later on the wave hitting over her again and again, I could relate to her.

Episode eight literally made me cry.
For the people in the comments, just because Wanda's psyche is understandable does not make what she did justifiable. She took over and controlled people's lives just because SHE was grieving. @@Laurica-lb6nv personally I think Thor and Wanda both reacted very realistically to a traumatic, depressing event. They both went into denial of what happened. Thor basically ignored the asgardians in his care and his own well being (he was out of shape) after his trauma.
But Wanda has reality bending powers so she could literally create a fake world for herself, while if a normal person is depressed and in denial they just keep to themselves.

From a media criticism viewpoint, criticizing a TV show for needing the context of years of comic books to be "good" is a fairly valid point.
Wanda became an orphan at the age of 10 believing she’ll be blown to bits by the same people who killed her parents. Then her twin brother was killed, and then she had to kill her boyfriend to save the universe, _then_ watch him die in front of her, twice, now three times. She’s not just “sad”.
So this show takes place after Endgame, after the Blip (when people were dust for 5 years). So not only did Wanda have to kill Vision, watch him come back to be murdered, herself come back 5 yrs later to the world even more crazy then before, not to mention there’s the question of the Mind Stone messed with her head a little when she got her powers, shake all that together & it can explain some of her actions more

I simply think that people who generally don’t like Superhero movies as a genre can’t really appreciate these characters and their thoughts, emotions and actions. These people seem to trivialise the movies and the characters entirely and although they say it could be done better/differently, I doubt that they could be satisfied with it in any way simply because they don’t enjoy the genre. They are entitled to their own opinion but I feel that Wandavision (though not perfect) really explored Wanda in depth and it’s fascinating because we’ve watched this character on the screen since AOU but as an audience, very little was revealed about her before now. She was a mysterious character, but now we saw that she’s a very layered character who fights a lot of internal demons and grief and actually vision helped her in a way of handling the grief from her brothers death, but now he is gone as well and she couldn’t fight the grief alone again. It also brings in her will, she feels the conflicts of losing everything and was fighting herself to not bring vision back but eventually the grief consumed her. A person, given godly powers, would probably do the same, and so it’s so easy to sympathise with her but we also antagonise her for taking a whole town hostage and stripping away their free will.

@@KolhetExtra I guess your blind because you didn’t even get my reply to you, if anyone doesn’t know about the fandom or show facts, it doesn’t give them the right to make jokes, and his jokes are more like negative dumb people stuff 🙄
Really missed the point on this one huh Alex?
Now I have to go watch the whole series again because it was a MASTERPIECE 💜
"Now I CaN tUrN pEoPlE iNtO 🍝 🍝 🍝 " 🤣
I think the reason you have a slight issue with this is the fact that you are pushing it off as "another superhero show" as soon as the sitcom ends, but it still isn't. This show is about Wanda's grief and trauma, and it has been since the start (from small callbacks to her past to the commercials outright spelling her trauma)
that’s exactly it!
Exactly!
You hit the nail on the head. I think that's what bothered me even about his comment that all superhero movies are the same. Those of us who like these things actually like best the ones where the superhero part isn't the bulk of the story. The character development and interactions are what give the superhero pyrotechnics any weight. It's why the DC movies have been generally not that well received and why the Arrowverse tv shows and Marvel movies have faired better. It's a pet peeve of mine to refer to this kind of content as "that superhero stuff" instead of engage with it the way you would any other work in any other genre. Genre tropes can be used to tell any kind of story you want! Black Panther was a story about the generational trauma of colonialism and racism. But if you want to see it just a story about a king whose cousin challenged him to the throne and then came back with a vengeance, you'd be totally missing the point. Like, I wonder if he would say the same thing about Watchmen. I just seems to me like The Hex is a powerful metaphor for the way that trauma and not facing it can suck in everyone around you and drag them down too even if you're not trying. So, "She's just sad" seems like a facile and erroneously constructed viewpoint.
Wanda being called the Scarlet Witch is a big deal because she has not been called that at all in the MCU.
Dumb reveal still. I always like how superhero movies reveal stuff in those conversations between the baddie and the goodie - DUMB AF way to do it, who talks like that
@@kut52 well that conversation was relevant because the scarlet witch was supposed to be a myth, also in the comics the scarlet witch is a title passed down through generations of nexus beings. Basically NOT a “dumb reveal” and actually holds a lot of weight.
@@kut52 nigga has genuine hate for this show or sum.. tf u here for lol
@@kut52 mate Agatha is a witch she probably talks like that because of such
@@lfnreviews that's all villains everywhere and saying that she is a witch and thus she talks like that sounda like a poor excuse imho
