Side Note: I cut out all the parts about the mom in Home Alone because it was really just the same thing over and over again. "she tries to go home but she can't, and then she tries to get home but she can't...". So, I decided to focus the video on Kevin.

So my uncle is a mortician, and every time we would watch home alone when I was growing up he would point out that just sticking a body in a vat of salt would not mummify the bodies, so now whenever the younger kids in my family watch home alone, I explain it to them, and now it's a family tradition to explain the mummification process while watching home alone

If you're going to talk about how the movie doesn't make sense, let's not overlook the most unrealistic part. Mom told the cops her kid was home alone. A cop comes over, knocks maybe once or twice, doesn't even identify himself (correct me if I'm wrong), and just gives up. Because if a nine year old is completely alone, it's inconceivable that he wouldn't feel comfortable answering the door. It's not like parents tell their kids not to answer the door to strangers or anything.

And he's only a child, so it is more excusable for him to act out a lot, not that every kid should, but by looking at the family.. I don't think they would even bother to understand him and tell him what he can and can't do to get him to behave better in a nice way so he understands. It's just "Kevin messed up again, lets call him a failure and insult him!" And for a kid that's only 8 years old to be treated that way and to be forced to sleep in the attic for doing something you don't like?

As a kid, I think we all watched Home Alone to watch Kevin beat up the bad guys and get to live vicariously through him.
As an adult, I love watching Kevin's character growth throughout the movie.
He starts out eating junk, running through the house, bouncing on the bed, tearing up everything in sight. Then after being traumatized by the scary movie and the burglars, he starts trying to be more grown up. He showers, buys groceries, does laundry, accidentally steals a toothbrush but whatever. Then he cleans up the house and sets up a Christmas tree and stockings for all his family members because he misses them.
Around this time, he makes friends with the old man and that's when we see Kevin go from an annoying little kid, to a perceptive young person with his own brand of wisdom, which his family is never able to see in him.
Because of what Kevin said, the old man finally calls his son and reunites with his family and Kevin gets to revel in a good deed he was able to create because someone took the time to listen to him.
And as kids, that was something we all wanted, to make a difference. We knew that we could, if only the grown-ups would listen to us once in a while.

One thing I have to disagree with is the fact that I’ve never met a kid who doesn’t like Home Alone. The idea of being free from parental control is pretty much universal fantasy for kids everywhere regardless of whatever generation or era you’re from. That along with all the Looney Tunes-esque shenanigans with the booby traps just makes it a timeless classic.

Besides, none of the criticism was out of line. The movie certainly did lack logic. But literally none of this was meant to bash the movie. Same applies to the rest of his channel. It's meant to be entertaining, if it isn't your cup of tea, then leave. Nobody cares you think someone should delete their channel because of your inability to take any kind of critique that doesn't put you and/or your interests/likes on a pedestal.

seafoamSpirit What do u mean?? Of course he misses feeling safe, safety is what CREATES bonds between household members. That feeling of reliance and dependence is mainly what prompts little kids to develop love for their families, namely their parents. And by the end of the film Kevin is most distraught over the absence of his mother more than anyone else, which makes sense, for she is who he is most dependent on, therefore the family member he is closest to.
He does indeed develop remorse by the end of the movie and is taught a valuable lesson through his experience. The robbers only serve to further Kevin’s appreciation towards his family once they arrive, but he would’ve eventually felt this way, maybe to a lower degree, had the robbers not been included.
And keep in mind it is a movie, so the robbers do serve a vital role in spicing up the plot as well. Without them, the bulk of the film would be reduced to a montage of an 8 year old going against his mommy’s rules for a few days then wanting them back; no one wants to sit through that.

Okay, you probably have not looked this up, but most of the questions you raised have answers. Is the family rich? Yes. The father is a senior partner in a firm and the mother is a designer, which explains all the mannequins. In the climax of the movie, Marv and Harry didn't give up because their plan was to kidnap Kevin and ask for a ransom. All that information and more is in the script. And the phone lines were never cut, they were just messed up, the repair man said so to Kate as they rushed to the airport. Oh and the reason he didn't call the cops was because he had stolen the toothbrush and assumed the police was looking for him. Again, not making this up, this is in the script.

after rewatching this movies like multiple times over the years, I realise that the movie did touch on why Kevin never call the police. First in his 8-year-old mind, he thought that he did something "bad" which result in his family disappearing. He never knew his family left and forgotten him (which is why he is not upset by that). He literally thought he made his family disappear. Another is a small part when Kevin was buying a toothbrush but he ran off without paying when he saw his "creepy" neighbour in the same store. He thought that he is a criminal from then and avoids the police attention.

I always thought about this movie as an imaginary adventure Kevin had after being locked in the attic. Didn't we all do it? Imaging what would happen if the family moved to Africa or won a lottery or our dad was a lost king of England etc. That's why everyone is so mean to him because we're inside Kevin's mind and see through his eyes. To a sensitive child even innocent joes can feel like bullying in certain situations.

Not really. But I can tell you it genuinely holds up without nostalgia.
