    Take the cell bands from the Honor and put them in the A1 = boss.
    Take the usb-c, quick charge and 5ghz wifi from the A1 and put them on the Honor = another boss.
    I do like that screen on the Honor, and both are the all round style I like, but both are lacking in key areas. Great video!

      The US/Can version as in Bestbuy have the all important LTE band 4 which is lacking in the Indian version. I went for Huawei mainly for the bigger screen. 0.5" more in size to me is important

    In my country (Greece) as of now, Mi A1 is at 160€, and Honor 7x is at 253€. So you see, I can't even compare these two devices.
    I just got, though, before some days the Mi A1 and I'm super happy for now, with my choice. The only bummer is the absence of FM radio.
    Aside from that, I think for the 160€ I gave, is a killer smartphone. With a superfast response, not even a suspicion of lagging (with 10+ apps running) and I got the limited edition red color (in the sunlight it's not precisely red, it's a tone of red-purple or so. Somewhat fuchsia) which is simply beautiful. I can't recommend this device more. Stock Android, fresh Oreo install out of the box, full HD screen 401 ppi, I haven't played with the camera yet that much to have a proper opinion but, for 160€ it's a steal!

    Probably by middle of next year, we will see more budget and midrange phones with LTE Band 71, but if Mi A1 had LTE 2/4/12, it would be hard not to buy it. That phone is nice and will get Android P.

    • @donavonhornbeck
      @donavonhornbeck  Před 6 lety +3

      +nymetsfan2006 the Mi A1 does have band 2/4, but not 12. For me that's all I need at home and work, but when I go in more rural areas, band 12 is nice to have.

    Love my A1. I've had it, since June. The aluminum body is A1in my books. My phone actually got run over by a car. The screen was perfectly intact, and the only damage were 5 dents, on the back panel, because I didn't upgrade the stock case, that came with the phone. If it were a plastic, or glass backed phone, it would have been toast. 2 thumbs up.

    any recommendations on Chinese phones in this price range with bands 2, 4 and 12 ? looking for something that's good for att and tmobile. not completely sold on huawei phones. i want to stick to snapdragon. it's too bad xiaomi lacks the major bands for att and tmobile.

    • @donavonhornbeck
      @donavonhornbeck  Před 6 lety

      The problem is that most Chinese manufacturers are using Mediatek processors for their budget/midrange devices. Xiaomi is the major exception to that, and as you mentioned, they only have a couple of phones with Band 12 and 17. The ZTE Blade V8 Pro is pretty inexpensive (around $150 now), but I believe it still has Android Marshmallow.
      If you are open to Mediatek processors, the Ulefone T1 is a solid device: www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_683595.html?wid=95&lkid=13605125.

    I was actually pleasantly surprised with the Mi A1 battery life. I get 1 hour screen on time per 10% battery drop. So in total I get close to 9-10 hours of screen on time. This is with WiFi and a single sim with mobile network always off. My redmi note 3 with 4000 mah battery gives about half that screen on time.

    Problem with these Chinese manufacturers, especially Xiaomi you want get good reception because they do not support many of our LTE bands. So if you want to be back on 3G go ahead with Xiaomi, but if you care to get good reception don't buy it you will be frustrated! Honor 7x is working awesome on T-mobile!

    • @donavonhornbeck
      @donavonhornbeck  Před 6 lety +2

      +Jannik Luethi that is really dependent on which Xiaomi phone you get. My reception on T-Mobile with the Mi A1is no different from what I get on the Honor 7x. With that said, you are right, many Xiaomi phoned will only get 3g in the U.S.

    • @jgould30
      @jgould30 Před 6 lety

      Donavon Hornbeck the Mi A1 doesn't support a bunch of T-Mobile bands that even low end phones support in the US. You might not experience it due to where you live and the locations you frequent. Rural areas, inside buildings, etc make a big difference and the Mi A1 just doesn't cut it. It's the #1 reason this phone isn't worthwhile in the US market.

      With the Honor 7x you should be on LTE all the time. The Mi A1 gets LTE everywhere is my area with T-Mobile, but it doesn't have Band 12, so the signal strength on LTE isn't quite as good. Where I live and work that's not a big deal though, because Band 4 LTE has a strong signal.

    • @Epiciouss
      @Epiciouss Před 6 lety +3

      Monica Santos Because it uses it's battery better which leads to it having longer battery life compared to the Honor 7X. This is mainly due to the Snapdragon 625 + Android 8 combo which is very power efficient while Honor 7X's Kirin processor isn't as great.

    I tried the Honor 7x and it was acting sluggish, video playback from Amazon was the worst I had ever seen. I ended up returing it. Even the low $170 price wasnt enough to deal with the comprimised preformance. My Blu phone worked better and the battery performance slays the Honor with the Blu's 5000ma battery. I was hoping the 32g ram would be useful but all the bloat from crapware and the modded android were huge wastes of that space.

      I have mine on MetroPCS, and I get 4G, but I'm unsure if it's LTE. It's fairly good speeds overall, I can get 720p videos on CZcams with no buffering, and a very few 1080p videos that do buffer. I would go for it if that's not an issue for you.

      Yeah, it's about $10 - $20 more where I live, but in my honest opinion the extra cost is worth it. The Mi A1 is just the more complete phone all-around IMO. Better battery life, better cameras, better performance.... This is my opinion based on my experience with both devices, but I think both are solid options.

    Mi A1 over any Konfuzei's phone. Even better speced ones. Android One is huge advantage and 3.5 on MI A1 is excellent for the price, amp is better than many much more expensive phones, even flagships. Huawei's 3.5 is, without a doubt, the worst in the world!
