How does this compare to the Moto G5 Plus? The specs for that one seem to line up with this phone.
Pete Borini depends on where you live and how much you value timely software updates. The G5 Plus will work in the US just fine, but it seems like the Mi A1 doesn’t support certain bands, so the connection might be a bit sketchy depending on your carrier and where you live. On the other hand, the G5 Plus won’t be receiving software updates nearly as often as the Mi A1.

jose luis meza I think the phone is great. It looks very similar to the iPhone Plus model. I was able to get 4G on T-Mobile in the US. The camera was just 'OK' compared to more expensive phones.

Great review. On the what else one would want: it has FM radio which on my gym it is the one way to listen to audio on different tv channels or when travelling or hiking and ANT+ sensor support for all runners/triathletes/garmin watch owners.

I know it's asking for the world but you wouldn't happen to know if this phone supports USB-C alt mode (HDMI out) sometimes it can be tested with the Samsung Dex or another usbc to HDMI port. I have T-Mobile unlimited and use HDMI out on my phone alot. Thanks for the great review J.

How’s the camera on Snapchat?
I do love the look of the phone, I love that you bring devices for all budgets to your channel. I think the only negative I read about this is that pictures in low light are pretty poor but you can't have everything. (my current phone, the S6 is rubbish in this regard too!)
Emma O'Sullivan hi just port Google pixel camera on it, no need to root even, wait for it you will get pixel portrait mode on front and back camera's, you are in for a shock😁

So this phone does have fast charging? Some have said it doesn't, which would be the only true flaw I can see, well other than OIS or EIS. That can't be expected at that price though. I'm loving this Xiaomi/Google partnership though, hope they keep it going. Xiaomi wasn't exactly known for updating their phones.

Asus Zenfone 3 has it (OIS and EIS)... at a very similar price and similar specs.

Dude I have a problem with this phone.The download speed using WiFi is painfully slow like 100 kbps but over the same network,my redmi 4 downloads at 5 Mbps.
Do you have a fix for this?
I tried clearing cache and data and whatnot, still the problem persists.

J. Williams - You must have really good support for Band 5 in your area, which is very rare on AT&T, and they only use it when they don't have access to Band 17. Also, I noticed that they advertise 1900 coverage on 3G, but they don't show Band 2 1900 coverage on LTE? We have limited Band 2 coverage in my area, but I have noticed that my current device is usually conected to either Band 4 AWS or Band 17 700, and I'm concerned that the lack of support for those bands would make this device a NO GO for me. So, I'm wondering if you are connecting to Band 2 or Band 5 for LTE on AT&T?
This phone has band 5, and it's really good here. It connects to band 2, 4, and 5 for LTE over here when I've used it. I checked the connection with an LTE app, and I also went into the settings to verify.
For me the only complaint is the camera. Its actually above average on good light and outdoors but on a darker low lit room or at night it drops drastically as far as image quality goes. Lots of noise and without a steady hand it blurs easily. But again its a nitpick given its price.

I have T-Mobile and I only show 4g no LTE .I live in Alabama and traveled to Toronto, Buffalo, and Boston the past few weeks. I only showed that I had 4g no LTE. I was on TULUS cell servive in Toronto....still only 4g. I did get the Oreo update
Just used the "SPEEDTEST" AP and it shows that the signal is LTE.... I tested at 51.8 Mbps download & 47.6 Mbps upload speeds. Received Feb 2018 update
It lacks NFC which is a deal breaker for Android Pay users. Aside from that, it is the best bang for your buck.
I never HEARD of NFC before, so it isn't important. I just got mine. Aside from the long shipping time (over 3 weeks), it is great so far. I will be using it a lot. I paid $220 from GearBest. Works on LTE 4G on Mint (T Mobile). Sweet!

The reason why you liked this phone so much is because you weren't expecting much from it in the first place. I'm not saying that it isn't a good phone, but Huawei came up with Honor 9i with its Kirin processor which performs similarly as sd 625; and interesting it is priced similarly.
That thing is barely available in the US.
