The Xiaomi Mi A1 is an impressive device for its price. It has a good camera, incredible battery life and an impeccable design. But the cherry on top is that it's an Android One device which means you get stock Android instead of Xiaomi's MIUI.

Before we get to that, Xiaomi needs t find a way to break into the EU market more and get its toes wet in the US a little. The main reason why they are not in these markets much is because of patent issues. THey've been buying up patents as quickly as they can, but they still don't have enough to leverage against the major players in the western markets.

It's a start, but not a real good one. Spain is considered to be one of the worst markets in Europe for tech sales. They will need to get into Germany, France and the UK if they want to really grow in Europe. Surprisingly, Xiaomi is pretty well known in Italy already, but I'm not sure that's helped them move the needle at all.
High Tech Traveler What did you end up doing with your Mi 6? I got one recently and with custom roms, its a great phone. There's already an Oero rom available.
It's on a shelf collecting dust :(
Guess I should boot it up and do a comparison between the Mi 6 and the Mi A1 to show people what the differences are between the two.

I've been using Mi A1 for almost 6 months now & I love this phone & yeah you've missed the built-in custom DAC which is great for audiophiles (Believe me it's the best among its range & could easily compete with other flagships). Also, the Oreo update has a custom Audio enhancer which is cherry on top. And for the Camera use the Google Camera Mod (You'll get better selfies with portrait mode & EIS too) & yeah the video was very good & was shot beautifully.Keep up the great work ✌
What is this Google Camera Mod you are talking about? And I thought EIS does not exist on the Mi A1?
Well EIS is a software feature & all you need is gyroscope to have it enabled. Follow some YT videos & you'll be good to go.

I watch this on my new mi a1 that I bought a few days ago. Not as bad as I thought it would be! The battery is great (8-9 hours of screen) and pure android. Not a great camera tho and no ip68 but for now I can live with it. For this price? Why not. Much better than xiaomi's other phones with miui or any other no names.
Honestly, I think that Xiaomi's phones running MIUI have more to offer. Yes, Android One is appealing since they phone should get updates quicker, but stock Android doesn't really have a lot to offer. Even Google's Pixel phones have a different launcher than the stock Android launcher since Google even things that phones need a bit more functionality.

I bought a1 last week, and it's battery drains like hell.. I get 3/4 hours screen, and that not playing any games, only net surfing.. Can you please suggest me what to do?
Spot on review, had this phone for 4 months before I sold it. The biggest weakness is the camera and of course the biggest strength is the software. Not as fast as a Pixel when getting updates but faster than mainstream Android brands like Samsung, Huawei, LG etc.

Great review. GearBest doesn't sell it for 230 bucks though; at least in Colombia. They tack on an extra hundred USD but shipping is included.
Watching on my miA1. Picked up on Amazon, phone did several security updates and finished with Oreo so I never got to use it without that to compare but the battery is very very good. Here in TX I'm on 4g with AT&T. Great phone, nice build, light but solid. Coming from Nokia 6, much faster, smoother although I liked the build of the Nokia tank. Thanks for the video

The manual options in the camera helps you overcome the shortcomings of the auto algorithms. The phone can hit above 24hrs of daily usage depending on how you control background apps and the numerous performance and activity toggles provided in the settings. And when the phone will run out of free updates from google after 2 years, you can easily unlock the bootloader and do you tricks to keep it going as the hardware is still worth it and can be your daily driver.
No one mentions that this phone comes with a built in preamp which makes headphone audio amazing!
Only other reviewers mention this. But this is definitely a plus compared to all other budget phones. Thank you for pointing this out here. :) Cheers!
I get this small static noise everytime the music isn't on. Weird. Especially in the Facebook app.

It needs a headphone with a minimum of 40+ Ohms to remove that static noise..
That is true -- even though you can only utilize it by plugging in a head phone jack.
I'm running on Android 8.0 with 4G network and security patch of January 1st 2018 with fixed bugs in my Xiaomi Mi A1; it's a nice phone! :)

Just started to use this device as of April 2018.
The *Global Version* supports *LTE* on *T-Mobile* in the USA.
It has also been *UPGRADED* to Android *Pie 9.0* w/ *December 5, 2018 security patch* which fixed many of the bugs, quirks and included many of the features that the Google Pixel 3/3XL has.
The battery life is a big plus & *very efficient* with *Snapdragon 625* -- as with normal use it lasts me an average of *1-1/4 days* or *30 hours.* It is similar to the longevity of the 2016 Moto Z Play which I previously used.
And for the current price of *$198.00 USD,* running *stock Android* you really can't beat it.
I do agree that using the camera under low light conditions does not produce the best quality photos; but I hardly take shots under such conditions.
And yes the *IR Blaster* for your t.v., cable box or audio system is also a big plus; including the *FM Radio* via the 3.5mm audio jack.
The only negative thing that i got from this phone is it a little bit hot while charging, great phone at this price range, the Portrait mode is even better than the iPhone 7s Plus (compared with my friend's 7s Plus), battery life is awesome with only 3080 mAh.

Has it got Android 8.0 yet? I have a Huawei P10 looking for something else although I'm not necessarily unhappy with my Huawei it's great and all, but I feel like something else tbh.
It has it for more than a month now but based on other people's experience it's buggy as hell at the moment. Mine is arriving in few days so I guess I'll see it for myself.

I've the P10 since last year September, haven't had any troubles with it so far, but I have to admit I kind of miss the stock android.

I dont think it supports 4g in the U.S
correct, unfortunately Xiaomi does not have any interest for the US market as of now. For that reason the LTE bands included in the phone, are not the frequencies used by carriers in the US. Look at the Honor 7X.
I watched another reviewer J. Williams and he said that the phone supports US LTE and showed it working

Sorry about that. I had to increase the music volume to drown out the traffic noise in the background. It was extremely distracting.

sound quality from the speaker is not that great. Headphones quality is pretty good for the price of the phone.

I have this phone and it is giving off too much Electro Magnetic Radiation my fingers are numb every morning with no circulation and i have gotten carpal tunnel from this now i am even sensitive to my wireless mouse because i am in so much radiation overload. It was a cheap phone but at are you willing to have problems with your hands. My hand feels like exploding from the pressure. I had this feeling before in 2008 when i first bought my lap top with a touch screen once i disabled the touch screen the problem went away the pressure was going up my are to my shoulder. This phone has a problem i tell to.don't hold it to your head use the speaker phone instead. Take it from a stay at home mom. Don't buy this phone.
