I Built a Lake Ecosystem on My Desk

- In this video, I built a fully functional lake ecosystem on my desk. I filled the tank up with the coolest species I could find, starting with plants, and eventually getting to shrimp, snails, fish, and even more… Not only did I document the process of building it, but also the daily lifestyle of every creature living inside and how they survive. Watch to the end to see how it finished off!
Thanks to tanksfornothin for inspiring this video, go check his channel out!
#ecosystem #terrarium
Thanks for watching!
Quick correction from the video: those fish are not neon tetras but glofish, I’m not sure how I got that mixed up. I hope you enjoyed, and let me know if you have any other video ideas!
I get them mixed up sometimes cuz they glow neon
Genetically engineered glofish, the wild type is known as black skirt tetra
Do a swamp ecosystem
In the next video, include a african fan shrimp
Can you put guppies and red cherry shrimp in the tank?
Btw the Tannis are actually really healthy for fish, it helps stop bacterial and fungal infections and the fish like who like to hide more like it because they are hidden easier
@@redrhino7 BLACK?!?!
@@redrhino7 BLACK?!?!
@@ZoPandax442 I meant really dark brown
BLACK?!?!
BLACK?!?!
The drift wood wasn’t polluting the tank it was releasing the tannins which are actually beneficial for the fish and add helpful bacteria they also stop bacteria and algae infections
it was the dirt 💀 this dude didn’t wash the dirt before he put it in, wood wouldn’t dye it that fast so quickly
@@UMR_Fouractually washing the dirt is actually a bad idea since you would wash out all the nutrients that a plant needs
@@UMR_Fourwood 100% can dye it that quickly
@@UMR_Four it did it that for me very quickly
Cool
Bro when will you learn it's not tea 😭
Hahaha😂😂
only in Boston
-fr fr-
Ngl, for a starting tank, you're doing so good, nice upgrade for your work place
Just so you know. Yo-Yo loaches can get pretty big, around 3-6 inches as adults. I’d recommend nothing smaller than a 40 gallon for them to be happy. Though the fact you mixed up glo fish with neons made my day. Though I hope you the best of success!
Thanks for the info! The place I got them says they were good for 20 gallons, but if they do grow up that large I'll definitely make them a bigger tank.
@@TerraGreen1Good! I have some in my planted tank and they’re awesome! Also they will try eating the shrimp when they’re older but it’s fine for right now…
I was going to point out the glofish confusion too.
@@Birdofthetacklebox yoyo loaches also eat invertebrates so that means the shrimp and snails in the video have been eaten
We got adequate tank sizes, live plants, cycling before putting fish in, and good stocking, AND it’s the 3rd video they have made, you are well on your way to being a professional, well done my friend well done
(Congrats on blowing up 🏅)
Depending on what type of snail you got can reproduce on their own, them being slow won't be a problem for long as you will eventually have so many that they will cover every inch of the tank
Mysteries aren't asexual. They also usually die if they do breed because aquariums don't provide the area above water needed for the eggs
Man I love you vids it’s not always easy to find a channel that focuses on ecosystems and uploads frequently so your channels just what I’ve been looking for so I’ll be here for a while:)
Those are NOT Neon tetras, they are glo fish. They are a species of fish that have a Glowing Dye injected into them before they Are born.
wtf??? we have the ability to dye fish???
Thanks for commenting, I pinned a comment about it. I didn’t realize, I just bought a fish that is compatible with the minimal requirements of my 20 gallon tank and have no idea how I mixed up the name so I appreciate you clarifying
@@Mayfrogo It's not actually dye, they glow due to proteins taken from bioluminescent jellyfish being placed into their bodies. Like most animals humans made glow, it's to view how certain features of the body "light up" so they can be easily observed by scientists
they're genetically modified by planting a jellyfish gen, these fish were born normally, just their ancestors were modified
They don’t dye glofish anymore, they’re genetically modified.
Im wondering how your channel hasn't absolutely blown up yet... I love your videos! You're doing great!!!
TerraGreen I literally can’t wait for you to become big, I rewatch ur videos everyday n I cant wait to see u grow !!
Tannins are very common in lake ecosystems and unless there is so much to the point where the water is pitch black it can only help the fish.
now where the hell do I buy healthy bacteria
Ohio.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!! i absolutly love ur vids their so exiting cool amazing i have watch all 3 and its the the same for the vids that are to come!!!
Nice video keep up the good work man you make me learn new things every day in your videos mostly about nature.
Nice tank man I’ve been wanting to do a lake ecosystem tank for a while so thanks for the inspiration
"why is my poop green" had me on the floor (if you know ya know)
It also said why is my poop black
@@mezenyaga6380 lol 💀
I love nature and i am really glad you made this aquarium
I love your vids! i have watched all 3 of them and can’t wait to see what the next one will be!
WOW MAN. ALREADY OVER 50,000 SUBSCRIBERS IN JUST 3 VIDS? KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! YOU'RE ARE MAKING IT SUPER BIG ONE DAY I BELIEVE IN YOU
I would love to watch a cave with rocks and little water puddles
I’m simply obsessed with your channel. Please continue to keep up the incredible work!!!
Tannins are good for your tank. Also, tannins are in lakes and will make your ecosystem healthier.
i think the tannins would have made the tank look more lake-like, and would have been very healthy for the fish and plants
Yeah you're right, I just thought it'd be better so I could get some clearer shots of the animals. The tannins are back in the aquarium now anyways because I guess I didn't boil the wood long enough 😂
i love this channel, please keep uploading! not many videos but great quality.
this video scratched my brain 😭
Educational and hilarious at the same time. Perfect
I've commented on all of your videos as I said "I will be an old fan of yours" when this channel will grow. I believe you can be the new Dr Plants
"I built a nuclear power plant on my gaming desk because it's boring."
Cool, you think you can teach me how to make a Russian bomb? My desk is boring too
Cool i put a soviet union nuoe
I love your vids so much 🎉🎉🎉but i feel that you shouldn't spoil the look of the tank at the start😅
Yeah maybe you’re right
I just wanna say I’m loving the content that you provide you should definitely keep doing things like you have been doing and just keep being super creative your doing great
You can use regular tap water from the sink when filling up an aquarium just make sure to add in water conditioner so it detoxifies chlorine and any harsh bacteria for fish
Make sure to add a heater for the glofish they need to live in 75 - 80F degrees to live comfortably
We call them glofish at work (I work at Petco). They were actually have a gene from jellyfish to make them glow under a blacklight. They inserted it to eggs and then they reproduce the gene themselves
You should really add a foam pad underneath your tank, the weight of the water, can potentially lead to the glass cracking from not having its weight properly distributed
FYI, tannins are actually a good thing for your aquarium life. Indian Almond leaves are full of tannins and give off beneficial nutrients and help fight off sicknesses and diseases. Snails and shrimp love to eat what the wood and almond leaves produce, too. Circle of life.
I love this. Mans showing us his learning process. Great video
lets goooooo
Love The Content Hope To See More!
To watching your videos is really interesting. Need more videos like this.
Hi I’ve seen someone else say it already but I’ll just tell you for clarity, tannins are good for fish in general and simulate their natural habitat, for example for betta fish it’ll make them feel more at home and even act as a healing agent
dude is so underrated! keep it up!!
I just subbed yesterday and I'm already loving it😊
If you don’t have a sponge on the filter intake for the tank I recommend removing the shrimp unless you get a sponge filter or a sponge for the filter intake pump because they could get sucked into the filter and if they have babies then the babies will definitely get sucked up
Congratulations on your third awesome video!🎉 Waiting for more cool, satisfying content❤
I love cat
First one XD
No ur not
He is look at recent
When he drank the water cuz he think it was tea got me dying and my friend too 😂
I’m glad I watched because I’m having the same tannin problem and have no idea how to fix it. Imma try to boil the wood to fix it.
Yup. Just make sure to not boil the wood for too long about an hour should be fine. Because just a bit of tannins is actually healthy for the fish, and also it’ll be like 99% clear as long as you use keep purigen in the filter
Bro this is so underrated
Lets get this guy to 100k subscribers

I know right its so underrated

Yes lets get him to 100k😊😊
i would LOVE for you to make a CAVE ecosystem because i like caves and anyone who likes this comment since you liked it that means you like caves
That would be cool. What’s animals could I put in it though?
Ive been watching you since your first video still loved you keep ip the good work❤❤
great video bro you should make something with a cave ecosystem i havent seen a good video with it before
huge fan btw ur so underrated
Thanks bro. If I did do a cave ecosystem what animals should I fill it up with?
Tiny Scorpions or mini centipedes sm like that
Great job
You make brilliant videos cep putting the work in.
🎉
Bro is an underrated W and found out abt him yesterday
That's an interesting video, this is one of my favorite ecosystem channels btw, anyways those fish are glofish btw not neon tetras but they're fascinating anyway
I watched the videos and now I’m watching this one
Hi! I like your videos please make more ecosystem videos, good luck and thank you❤✨
In all my time of living, I have never seen someone glaze substrate as much as this guy

Dr plant made a huge impact Dr plant will be respected
Pls could you make the videos longer❤
Love the content by the way🎉
Duckweed grows really fast and can make your Tank overflow with duckweed
Bro you are surely more entertaining than Jurassic World 😂😂
The tongs take some practice lol but this is a great experiment and you obviously did a lot of research! Good luck in all your future ecosystems!
You actually should keep the tannins it's actually quite good for most fish especially from south America and Asia
Word of the day ecosystem
You gained alot of viewers in you first and second video btw i love your videos
Just stumbled upon this channel. They are glowfish, not tetras. Ditch the duckweed - they clog your filter and block light. Instead, put in some almond leaves. Embrace the tannins - they help fish heal in case of infection. You can easily turn this into a dark water set up. Good attempt at a tank though. Keep up with the videos. Consider me a new subscriber.
Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it as this is one of my first tanks.
I think these videos are really cool and that some day you can be as popular as Dr. Plants
I plan to create one for my work desk.
Suggestion: do this but instead freshwater lake ecosystem do a tidal pool/mangrove/ coral reef ecosystem
You are absolutely amazing, you should be on 8 million subs
I never comment on yt but this time I am doing it only cause of you dr plants and terragreen are the best❤❤
Thanks bro. Comments mean a lot and show me people want to see more of these types of videos. I’m trying my best to improve and make higher quality videos each time. Next video should be Sunday or Monday 😁
I love watching your videos there original and something new btw for a video idea you could watch a ocean area for a bit and then try to recreate it
Btw it’s called a fresh water tank but you should do a salt water tank you can put really pretty fish
Hi TerraGreen, I am a new subscriber and i love your videos. Keep your good work up.
Thanks man
@@TerraGreen1 please make a desert ecosystem next, i would appreciate it very much
Your channel is killing me with these things❤
no way a decent looking terra green terrarium? no way
We need more people to do these things like dr plants
Keep the good work up!
It would be AMAZING if you somehow made an arctic ecosystem simulation
C@n you make an exhibit with turtles, fish, and some other than life you don’t have to, but I think it would be a really good idea
I love these kind of videos! You earned a new sub
🙋♂️
Hey bro, keep up the good stuff with your videos. Sorry for stealing your title, I put your name at end of video and description 😂
