I've been watching a few reaction vids on this & it's common occurrence.
That is a car minus a couple of wheels & some minor body work. What was left was the actual make up of the car.
If you really want to see bogan Bathurst look up 80's to 2000. It got really wild on top of mountain back then, if someone drove up there in a Toyota people would torch it as a sacrificial offering to the Bathurst god's😁
Highly regulated these day's, great experience & memories.

One of the greatest races in the world. 5.5 hrs of endurance racing. Most years the time difference between first and second place is less than one second for 5.5hrs of gruling racing. There is nothing like it in the world. You must watch this years race just completed today. It keeps you on the edge. The shear brilliance in engineering and technologies of the cars and stamina of the drivers to take on every corner for 5hrs. Absolutely blows me away.

Hi Rob. I was a fire marshal there in 1983/84. The one factor Mark didn't mention which is totally unpredictable is the kangaroos. More than one has been on track during the race and since there has been a lot of rain there will be plenty of food around so I won't be surprised if a roo or 2 make an appearance this year.

Fun fact: A few years ago the organisers of the Bathurst 1000 decided to limit the amount of alcohol people could bring in to 48 cans of beer per person per day, and fans almost rioted. Most of the time the circuit is public roads so people went up there 2 weeks before and were burying alcohol to dig up later and get round the restrictions.
The whole event is basically a drinks party with a race happening in the background.

One thing to take into account for not just Bathurst but the other 2 enduro races that were usually on the calendar is that there are two drivers per car. So imagine how much worse then normal you'd feel crashing given you've got a whole other driver now also relying on you to get it right.

it has to be because the race can take 8 hours, so each does 4 hours, I can't imagine being at between 200 to 300 km/h I've never driven a car myself but growing up I was a big peter brock fan, if you even mentioned Bathurst you meant Peter Brock he was the number one driver in 1975, 1978-80, 1983-84 and 1987. His last Bathurst 1000 was in 2004 alongside Jason Plato.

G'day Rob. I was going to recommend this video myself, but I didn't because everyone who does a reaction on it either has it taken down or has the video muted. I'm not sure why. It's on Bizpix's channel, but he can't be the one who owns the copyright, The Ten Network were the original broadcaster, so they would own the copyright. Seems a bit cheeky if he is the one reporting it as a copyright infringement, and he has it on his channel, but he doesn't own the copyright.
Anyway, it's far and away the best Bathurst video out there. Mark Larkham does a fantastic job of describing what a demanding race it is.

The crash you commented on “that’s not even a car anymore”
That was lap 1 of 161 in the 2010 race, it was driver Fabian Coulthard (yes, he is a distant relative of David Coulthard from F1)
On the start line another cars bumper rubbed against his left rear tyre as they fought for position, casing a weak spot on the tyre. As he then gets to the end of Conrod Straight (doing 290 - 300km) the weak tyre let’s go because that’s the point of the track it’s under the most load, as well as the car weighing the heaviest it can weigh because it has a nearly full 140L fuel tank.
Anyway, the tyre let go turning him side ways and into the sand trap, the car digs into the sand and rolls (7 times I think).
He then gets out and walks away unassisted.

biggest thing about mt panorama is that it's a very slim road so you have to really take advantage of the area's where you can overtake, it doesn't meet regulations for F1's to race though they did do a f1 promo on it a while back i believe, as for public roads not being as good for racing cars, it depends on the track and the upkeep of the road, take the Adelaide circuit, it's considered by all drivers to be 1 of the best laid tracks of all time as they make sure it's smooth and no potholes and deviations

Their school owned one side of Conrod Straight so they got to go for free.
My brother in law and my sister were Police there. He took our new car with my husband for a test drive on the Mount. We didn’t know our car could go that fast and my husband wasn’t sure he was going home alive. A friend with a radar gun gave us the speed.

@@michael49777 The use of quotes is saying that "the Chase", where drivers had to slow down, was, basically, Murray's, back in the day. Or maybe I am giving too much credit to the original commenter. The Chase was added in 1987 in preparation for the World Touring Car Championship to adhere to FIA rules, as Conrod exceeded the maximum allowable length for a straight on a WTCC track.

It's not generally an open road, as in used by general traffic, you have to let them know you want to go around it and ask permission to do it now! I am never doing it again one of the corners down from the Mountain was like being on a ski course with blind spots! 😳

Generally Australian TV networks are awesome at pre-event adverts/stories. This one being a great example. Bathurst is such a pressure cooker. You are not only racing for yourself, but also for your co-driver. (2 drivers per car, each driver must complete a certain number of laps) I looked up some stats for Bathurst: each car will consume nearly 800 litres of fuel. A driver will lose between 3% to 5% of body weight during the race.(sweat) They even have an alcohol limit on the 'bogans' ...1 carton of beer per day, per person. (24 cans) or, 36 cans of light beer, or 24 cans of pre mixed spirits, or maybe you're a wine drinker, well you are allowed 4 litres per day.......lol 🤯

G'day Rob, those Race driving are hero's and the cream of a dangerous Sport, l ride a high powered Motorcycle 🏍️ on Australia roads where car drivers just don't look for bikes on the open road, so for 16 broken bones in two being hit by a car, one time pushed of the road and there with a broken leg and arm 10 hours before someone stoped and in 10 hours only 2 cars went past, l time my hat of to anyone who rides in Australia, that's why we are called temporary Aussie. Cheers, mate Neil.

This track only gets harder to race on each year as the drivers get better, and the cars get faster. Plus the conditions here are unpredictable. This track hasn't even thrown everything at these drivers. It commands respect. Fail to give the mountain the respect it deserves and it'll ruin your day.

How many times have you seen idiots focusing on the car in front of them when you should look 5,6,7 cars ahead and predict what's going to happen?.
