The narrator is Mark Larkham, or Larko as Aussies call him (everyone's got a shortened nickname). He was a driver but is now in the media. He is usually in pit lane covering the chaos there. He also does little segments explaining how things work on the Supercars, like if rules change for a new season he'll explain it, or he'll have actual parts from a race car dismantled and explain what broke on a car, or how the teams overcome issues, etc. I believe the TV coverage of Supercars and the Bathurst 1000 in particular is the best motorsport coverage in the world. The Bathurst 1000 is an iconic event and you get many people tuning in who aren't racing fans and only watch once a year. The coverage is welcoming of all viewers and Larko's segments help educate new viewers.
While we have v8 racing, bathurst is a once a year, 6 hour race. Get ya mates around, have plenty of beer and food and settle back for the most exciting race going. Knowing you i know you will love it. The track is deadly with spectacular crashes. Once you've seen it, you'll be back. Thanks mate for keeping it real. Lastly, Im not upset, I just find it so weird that some click on a reaction video then get uptight at the reactor pausing and talking. Im a born and bred New Yorker (as Im sure you're aware by now) and we have a bad habit of speakin out from time to time!😂😂😂

The other thing you should know is the Bathurst racetrack is actually a public road and other than during events anyone can drive around it (at 60 km/hour (35 miles/hour). Even at that speed, the track is challenging, with blind corners and the steep elevation which doesn't come across on TV.
Agreed, TV does not do Mt Panorama justice, I walked it and will never do that again.

Two weeks after the AFL Grand Final . It’s a weekend event with practice , car testing and qualifying. It is a brutal 6 hour endurance race . 161 laps 1000 k’s .lots can happen and usually does . The presenter Mark Larkham is a retired driver and team owner .

Now you need to do a video of Greg Murphy Lap Of The Gods at Mount Panorama, Bathurst as we call it. The Lap of the gods video is of him doing the top 10 shoot out or hot lap is, after they do the qualifying laps for the race the 10 top qualifiers have a shoot out and each of them do a solo lap and try to get the fastest time to get the 1st place on the starting grid. And let me tell you they do not hold back, it'll give you goosebumps and make the hair on your arm's stand on end. I'm sure a lot of people will request it in the comments. I'll share the video in the Discord for you.

Murphy`s record has been broken a couple of times but I can`t remember the names of the drivers.
This video was all about the one track. The Supercars season is similar to most motorsports, Feb/March to Nov ish. The Bathurst race, which is to an Aussie or Kiwi what Daytona is to an American, is held in mid October each year. It is 161 laps, 100km (650+ miles) with no time limit. It is approx 6 hrs

Been to bathurst twice long time ago, nothing beats 55 V8,s coming up the mountain on the first lap, you can literally feel it pounding through your body from 800 metres away. The best way is to bring a small portable T.V. , the local channel 7 broadcast the race live ( barely a few seconds delay ) so you see it live from the mountain and also you can see whats happening through the day, the track is about 6.21 kilometres. Word of warning - if your in a group and bring plenty of beer for the day, keep most of it hidden somewhere. The cops do a sweep about 30 mins before race starts and confiscate anything more than a cartoon.
The one weekend of the year that we're all glued to the TVs. That was only 1 lap, theres another 160 laps to go. Check out Peter Brock - king of the Mountain. Also Darrell Waltrips lap of the mountain 😂
I have fond memories of Bathurst in the 60s with the varied mix of cars. Back then, they were basically production cars - they had to sell 500 (I think) of a model to the public to gain entry. With the small population, there weren't 500 people who could afford to buy a new Porshe every year. The classes were based on retail price, rather than engine capacity or whatever. Winning Bathurst was a huge marketing advantage for the manufacturer.
It was always fun to watch the Holdens or Falcons fly past the Minis going down Conrod, only for the Mini to out-brake and out-handle him at the bottom and glide past at the corner before the start/finish line. Falcons had drum brakes, Minis had discs.
Conrod Straight is named for the fact that it wasn't unheard of for a driver to put his conrod through the block by over-revving on the long straight down a steep hill.
Always fun listening to people react to v8 super cars. There are flag marshalls to warn drivers and the drivers are in radio contact with their teams, officials as well as the tv commentators. It is quite unique to hear a driver interview live during the racing.
I love that aspect as well!! Listening to the driver interviews while driving is awesome!! They do that in NASCAR as well!

Mark Larkham, the commentator, is former Formula Ford European champion, former V8 Supercars driver, and team owner. Yes he knows the circuit well.
There are two main events at Bathurst - the Bathurst 1000, and the Bathurst 12 hour. The 1000 is more popular, but I personally prefer the 12 hour race and the international endurance teams. Both are worth watching, but V8 Supercars gives fabulous racing at many other circuits as well. Mt Panorama is the big one, the world famous circuit that is a blast from the past. In today's safety conscious world they would never build a narrow track up and down a mountain like this. There have been several deaths, most of them on Conrod Straight, the fast downhill off the mountain, including Denny Hulme, the 1967 Formula 1 World Champion who had a heart attack on the run down the mountain.
Its Larko (Mark Larkham), has a distinguished career in both driving and team owner. He's intense and high energy, and you either love him or hate him. He appears in small segments during Supercars race rounds telecasts, usually explaining tech upgrades, strategy/track conditions etc. This segment showcasing Bathurst suits his delivery, vibe and love of Australian motorsport.

SVG is in the xfinity series and will be full time Cup racing with Trackhouse next year. Scott McLaughlin is a star in Indycars.
Marcos Ambrose did an exceptional job when he raced Nascar. Brodie Kostecki had a few races last year in nascar. All the above are V8SC championship winners. Cameron Waters is having a crack at it soon.
Shane Van Gisbergen that races in NASCAR use to race these things along with Marcos Ambrose but they both decided to go state side, Shane is only just starting over there and the guy is extremely fast on road courses so expect big things from him on the street courses. MotorTrend streams the race in the US mate. Also if you follow the IndyCars you will also see another former V8 driver racing for Penske which is Scott McLaughlin
so to answer your question, if drivers make a cut like what was made at the chase they can rejoin provided, 1 they do not gain an advantage or 2 they give back the advantage gained(known here as "Re-dressing") other wise they will get a drive through and/or hold penalty
hey mate, great reaction video..The V8's race there twice a year, the February opener of the season which is 500Kms and October the 1000Kms, the season finishes in November in Adelaide in which Kyle Busch will be coming over to race. As to the question of yellow lights like NASCAR and Speedway, they have on-board dash warning lights.
Yep it was the last lap and all three were running for the win after 1000km.
Questions
1. The Narrator is Mark Larkham also known as Larko a Commentator and an ex driver and former team owner. They tried to sack him from media let's say that didn't go so well as the fans were angry and yeah.
2. If goes off he will have to redress and go back into the same position he was in before going off and then they wouldn't be penalised if they don't they could and would probably be penalised.
3. There is flag marshals but there is no spotters in Supercars.
4. Yes it was the final lap of the 2016 Bathurst 1000 Jamie Whincup is the Red bull car got penalised, Garth Tander in the red and black car of the HSV and Scott McLaughlin in the white car of Garry Rogers team.
5. The Supercars season this year is February to November and Bathurst is in October.
Note: They drive different Cars now than what they do in the Video calling Generation 3 cars being Chevrolet Camaros and Ford Mustangs compared to Holdens and Fords.
I recommend Watching the Lap of the Gods a lap of Greg Murphy's 51 in 2003 or there is a video out there of them talking to Peter Brock during the race.

If you want to learn more, I'd recommend Josh Revell's video on "The Greatest Race Ever", the 2014 1000. It was an utterly demented race, with a crazy last lap. Even better, the whole race is up on the Supercars YT channel, alongside many other races.
He can get back on, because I think he's earned it. Pit entry is not far from here though, and he would have to stop anyway, to change his jocks.

Greatest race ever. The supporters are totallly feral on the top of the hill, GM v Ford.back in the day. The banter between the fans was awesome. During and at the end of the race was beers and hugs between mates with different alllegiances. So good...Seems a bit sterile now that GM and ford Aus has been killed off.
I don't actually watch this series but usually it's local yellow flags for most series like this, buddy. Locally to each sector of a road course. If something is really bad there's a safety car for the whole lap. And then red flag for a full stoppage.
I really hope that's the same for V8S!
Pretty sure it is. Safety signals were the same for all back when I last got my CAMS licence (many years ago) and I doubt they'd change that

At 11:30 the castrol falcon, crosses the track just missing another car then finishes in the kitty litter on the next side. At 13:16 there was a couple of laps to go.
08:10 along the track there a lot of flag Marshall points along the track they'll wave the yellow flag only fairly recently LED's were added at those flag points. Speaking of massive wrecks in blind spots I recommend- Bathurst 2008: Paul weel and Chris Pither collide
About the lights you have, we have flag marshals at every corner
They run flags and lights on all Australian tracks, including here. At Bathurst they are HUGELY important. You drive Bathurst with a co-driver, who does laps too..

This race comes down to a car-length, after 1000KM, 6 HOURS of racing.
This years Bathurst is coming up this October 13-15 (main race on the last day).
for v8 supercars they use flags instead of lights usually a couple of sectors before the accident to warn drivers whats coming up. plus in car radios.
They are a little lighter and little less powered, but similar to Nascar but don't race ovals.
for your question at 11:16 yes he can just rejoin the track, and as long as he does not gain a lasting advantage he can resume as normal. if he were to overtake another car for example hes got 2 options, re-dress ie. let the car he overtook back past or blaze on and get a penalty from the stewards. There are also much stricter rules. you cant bump others off the track or pit them or anything like that, you will receive a penalty. in my opinion it should be loosend a little because rubbins racing. but on the same token i dont want to see cars put into the wall.

There are two races that in Australia are know as the race that stops a nation one is this race the other is a horse race named the Melbourne cup.

Someone dies pretty much every year - they race between stone walls and through villages.
AWESOME.
The cars are similar in weight
But the big difference is tyre's and brakes
Our cars use much smaller width tyre's and brakes
Its the first thing overseas drivers fined challenging
Not the grip with 5/600 hp to try and stop wheel spinning
Also you need to make tyres and fuel last
As every team is only allocated certain amount to last the weekend
So you can't afford to burn them up to early or damage them

A word about "the grate".
If you actually run your front tyre over the grate, you are already nine tenths of the way into an accident.
Have a good look at the footage again, the front tyre is so loaded up it is throwing smoke.
Again, if you run over the grate... you're already nine tenths of the way into a huge hit.
... a HUGE hit.
I've never known if the track was resurfaced specifically to do it, but that f@$king grate is EXACTLY where the transition from corner exit to next corner entry happens. And it's downhill. All the weight shifted onto that front right wheel, right when its level with the grate.
In the video, Larko stresses that you cant even be a foot outside of the line coming up the hill. At the grate, its more like an inch.
IMO Mt. Panorama is almost up there with Pikes Peak and the IOM TT Snaefell course for insanely small error margins

I haven't read all the comments so someone else may already have noted this. The cars in this video are mainly Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons. Since car manufacturing ceased in Australia in about 2017 it has become a two-brand Supercars series with Mustangs and Camaros. It is still a Ford v Chev competition. However, with Chevrolet having announced the demise of the Camaro, it will be interesting to see what car replaces it in the Supercar series. That may already be known but I don't know. Someone else might. I will also repeat what others have said, below ... do yourself a favour and watch Darrell Waltrip being taken on a full-on lap around Mt Panorama
If a car leaves the track like the one at 11.38 he can keep going as long as he doesn't pass anyone. If he ends up in front of the car he was behind he must let them pass, called redressing

Great commentary! You might like to comment on The Greatest Motor Race EVER as well, which of course, was at Bathurst! czcams.com/video/XMkzDMAP-80/video.html It's 25:20 long, but you might want to begin your commentary at 3:54. While the intro to that point is good, its not vital. From there the plot is set with a really great introduction of the drivers (setting up the key players which is really important to appreciate the race; then take guesses on who'll win). From the second the race starts at 7:46 there are so many twist, turns, crashes and surprises, as well as changes in lead that it puts many Hollywood thrillers to shame. Neither you nor your viewers will notice the length, you'll all be on the edge of your seats! (Although 23:20 is a reasonable place to finish as well, bringing it under 20 minutes of essential viewing.)

Plus Scott McLaughlin (New Zealand) has just posted the fastest ever Indy car 500 pole time. Scott has also competed in and won the Bathurst 1000 (Mt Panorama) as has Shane Van Gisbergen (Nascar). That race track is a great proving ground.

First week or two of October every year for three days practice on Friday to get a good time for the ' TOP TEN SHOOTOUT ' on Saturday to get a top time for the grid the next day ( Sunday ) race over six ours or so

They used to have various 'classes'.... so you'd have small 4 cylinder sedans getting monstered by V8 fords ....it made for a lot of overtaking and lapping and congestion... there are CZcams videos of Bathurst in the 60s....virtually no safety at all... pretty much a public road. You're right in thinking that a yellow flag can't really prepare drivers for what might be round the next corner. One of the few fatalities happened when a guy got himself into the wall and then was stuck in the middle of the track. It was just over a hill, so the next car T boned him. there are quite a few foreign drivers who come to Bathurst as co-drivers. Roger Penske had a few cars running a while back I think. And no you don't talk too much.
