I used to work for a V8 Supercar Team back in the late '90's, and hot laps were not allowed then at that track. But one of our drivers "borrowed" a pace car and took me for a 'warm lap' around Bathurst. It was freaking terrifying! At some stages, I screamed like I was being murdered by a knife wielding maniac! It was awesome! 🤣🤣
I have been around that track when it was open as a public road, doing the speed limit. That was terrifying enough. I can only imagine how it feels going around there at anything close to a race pace

Hey guys, I was a passenger in a regular car, driven by a mate of mine, when we did a lap of Bathurst, at about 30mph. I’m telling you, the first corner in the Big Dipper, you CANNOT SEE THE ROAD! It looks like you’re about to head off a cliff! The road drops a HUGE amount, in just a car length and it’s scary as hell at 30mph. Doing at race speed is just so terrifying to think about, that I just don;t have words. You should really try and get to wacth a whole 6 hour race, because there’s so much wear on every part of the car that you have to know how to get the best lap times as well as keeping everything from breaking. LOVE your reaction. Everytime I watch that video it makes me laugh helplessly. That poor man! He had NO idea what he was in for! He’s right when he says that the Tv doesn;t do it justice, because I’d seen it on the TV so many times, but actually driving a lap (even at Granpa speed) gives you a whole new perspective.

Remeber he has done all his racing in a left hand drive and now he's doing crazy speed around blind bends in a right hand drive. He's sitting in the same place but the steering wheel is missing.

I used to think it would be a great experience to go for a ride with a top driver around Bathurst. That was until I drove the track in my street car at the speed limit - 70Km/h. I don't any more. Like Darryl said, TV does not give the track justice.
Did the same thig several years back. went round a couple of times at 45 / 50 kms to get the feel and then did it at 60kms/hr and you are SO right, across the top and then into the dipper, forest elbow it is one scary ride but exhilerating as well I would love to do a hot lap with Greg Murphy being a fellow kiwi or SVG either would do ncely.
you must see Peter Brock talking his way around the track during the race and his right arm is on the door as he is driving with one hand - as I said This is during the race!!!!

I bought my brother in law a hotlap of Bathurst in a genuine V8 Supercar, with a professional driver, for his birthday. He was one happy mfer let me tell you.
Septic tanks crack me up,comn down under,u can drive bathurst any day of the week,just at 38 miles an hour,thats the beauty of BATHURST
Having driven the track while is a public road is mind blowing. It had a speed limit of 60kph (35mph) It is extremely difficult to go through the dipper at the speed limit and stay on my side of the road. Conrod is so steep that you need to use the brakes a lot. Feet off and gravity gets you to 120kph in a blink. Great place.
And this is exactly why I say that there's no skill what so ever in NASCAR and Shane Van Gisbergen proved it in Chicago.
No skill is a stretch
It is a sport. You have to be super fit to drive one of these cars. I have a suggestion for you. A little different than what your used to. Watch AC/DC let there be rock live at River Plate for some good ol fashioned Aussie Rock. A meastro performance on the guitar from Angus Young. It goes for 17 minutes so make sure you have a drink handy. Cheers
Was lucky for a pace car trip around Toronto street course was cool . Have driven Montreal track in my own car and would trade those for a lap of Bathurst !! Since 2008 I watch the race intro for the 07 Bathurst 1000 before I would leave home to race karts ! Have watched a minimum of 200 times and scored over 100 podiums ! Inspiration from afar . My home karting track is Mosport and the elevation changes in track is awesome ! DW is a character and glad to see a racing great enjoy a lap like he's a kid !!!
Have you ever been in a super fast lift that leaves you thinking that your balls are in your throat, well times that by 10 and you can imagine the g-forces that is experienced by these drivers at racing speed over this coarse.
I watch a lot react vids, but I've subbed to you guys because your not only entertaining but have a real interest in the videos you react too, and if you like it you wont to know more, pulse your not show pony's and I for one like that. keep up your grate work can't what for your next one.
Like so many others I first drove my mums Cortina round Bathurst at night.I was following a mate in a panel van.We came to the Dipper & he disappeared ! I then fell down the road to the left & saw his tail lights swinging to the right to which I followed. To this day I don't know how I got to the Elbow & then the straight,but that straight went on,& on & on........& then it was over.....pit straight & slowly back up to McPhillamy to pull off the circuit & camp. The race came & went & on Monday (in the days when NSW had Monday as a holiday)we drove down again,but in daylight.It dawned on us then the drivers were madmen or had REALLY big nuts. Amazing !
Yep as a Aussie we dream of a Holden and Ford just to go to Bathurst .go down the driveway age 3 on my tricycle sideways in the road just like a hello corner.

In the really early days this scenic road was dirt..,.& they raced cars & bikes on it.... now THEY had large appendages !

He's a driver, a pilot rather than the radar operator. He feels uncomfortabale when he is not in charge.

I don’t know if it’s been said but aside from race days it’s actually a fully functional normal road that’s heavily policed for would be racers.

Allan Moffat a fine American race driver and gentlemen a Ford driver. And Peter Brock a Holden driver. I had a ride in Peter Brock SLR 5000 wow, they really are scarey

Bathurst is nice but I've strapped V8 supercar drivers into rallycars and they come back requiring a change of underwear!
They strap F1 drivers in to rally cars and get a similar reaction. Rally driving is a special kind of crazy, not shared by many lol

Darrell mentioned the elbow in his commentary. Forrest's Elbow is a sharp corner, but was named after Jack Forrest, a motorcycle racer who, in 1947, ground his elbow down on the corner after dropping his bike there.
Look at some old footage of Bathurst from when they first started filming the racing-you wouldn't recognise the place. The safety has improved markedly. Some places where you see cars these days hitting the walls, they used to just disappear off the side of the mountain.

Many professional racers are the worst passengers, and that includes the best drivers now and in the past.
As a passenger you have no control...... and you get to see the speed and extra short braking distances.
When driving you don’t notice either...... to busy concentrating on driving and trying to win or simply improve your position.
You know what that’s a great perspective! That’s like me riding in the car when my girlfriend is driving 😂😂

Watch some of the early Bathurst, especially from the 60s and 70s. No safety fences, barely a roll cage and stock standard suspension and brakes etc. And have a listen to Allen Moffat's comments on the stupidity of CAMS at the time.
