- Many songs from the Tamil Films have been ignored periodically for reasons best known to no one. Especially, never or rarely attempted in any reality shows, stage shows or competitions.
When the nation is on a Quarantine, Subhasree Thanikachalam launches this new series.
This series will feature a set of rare songs that are rarely heard, rarely performed and she will also try and give some trivia for the songs.
The songs will all be performed by young singers who came out of her shows, which mainly focussed on old songs. The sessions are unplugged and performed with minimum instrumentation. No retakes. One stretch live performance..

The sax was silky and awesome.
MSV the Greatest Composer, the True Pioneer in making the First Revolution in the Thamizh Film Music. There's been No Peak left untouched by this Genius. A composition based on Charukesi. When it comes to MSV's music, all secondary stories only being discussed and only the singer is praised more predominantly than the composition OR the composer. No amount of hidden agenda to Blackout or take the credit away from MSV cud erase the Great Work & Great contribution made by the Great MSV. MSV - A Genius and a Composer Beyond Comparison and his Compositions beyond Comprehension to Music Experts who can't think beyond nor go beyond the prescribed format or the Pre-drawn readymade templates. They are still scratching their heads how this genius got so many thousand tunes from his imaginative brain and thru his Midas touch on the Harmonium to too many challenging situations.
Very true. The real story of this song is MSV-TKR's haunting tune and subtle though minimal orchestration. Given MSV's insight into voice dynamics of various singers and despite Susheela's self-effacing reply to this anchor's comment, I am sure Susheela would have done an equally good, if not better, job of delivering this song (as she has repeatedly demonstrated in many meant-for-Easwari songs.)

We should not be unduly worried about these. MSV,'s genius is beyond such petty things. A well known critic said Karnan songs bring sleep and after 50years also people cry listening to உள்ளத்தில் நல்ல் உள்ளம் not only here but in Combodia also people cried with out knowing the language. Every song of that film is an epic of sort . So his compositions live in peoples mind for ever irrespective the critics comperes and even so called experts in reality shows prefer to avoid discussions on MSV's compositional values while a few others mediocre songs discussed in depth. So pls read the first line.

Yet, after 40 years after the movie was released, the magazine "Sruti" exclusively devoted to Classical Music, published a review of the movie's music alone in glowing terms discussing the rationale behind the ragas, instruments used at great depth. So let us count the positives, ignore the ignoramuses and move on!!!

I was studying in 8th standard when I saw this film. Even without understanding the situation for the song, this song caught the attention of my mind and it still remains so in the age of living with my grandsons and granddaughters. Thank you and God bless you mam.
Those days we used to wait for this song in the Radio as there was no other way to get it. LR Eswari's best song at par with Kadhodudhan naan pesuven. No other singer than Srinidhi could have sung so well. Thanks Subhasree Madam

Firstly, thanks to Subhashree and her team for catering to my request in playing this song, one of the all-time best. Srinidhi, you did a fantastic job. Proud of you for agreeing to do this classic. That additional voice part in between charanams, Srinidhi, you just hit it out of the park. Fantastic.

When you think of Charukesi in film music, the 26th Melakartha ragam, you probably can't help yourself but to think of MKT’s classic composed by G Ramanathan, the one and only “Manmadha Leelayayi kandar” or the mouth-watering G Ramanathan classic “Vasantha Mullai” (a TMS masterpiece) from the movie Sarangadhara or “Azhagiya Tamil Magal Ival”, a MSV classic from the movie Rickshakaran sung by TMS/PS or “Udhaya Udhaya”, an AR Rahman classic, sung melodiously by Hariharan and Sadhana Sargam.
But the King himself, aka, MS Viswanathan with TKR, had composed a surprising composition, a blend of western tune with a deep base of Carnatic in the form of Charukesi, with LR Easwari, something different for her from the standard LRE songs. The haunting music and the lyrics (by Kannadasan) are what make these MSV classics as evergreen for ages to come. MSV talked about this song in one of his interviews and indicated how he was brave enough to use Charukesi for a song that was supposed to reflect female lust, similar to the one expressed by the male voice in Manmadha Leelalayi, which was almost unacceptable those days.
This song was picturized as a club dance that all of us must have seen humpty number of times in Hindi movies with Chemeen Sheela’s dance and KR Vijaya acting out the emotional lust without crossing any limits. It was Kaviyarasar’s own production. The scene was set in Adayar river in the night. The instruments used (bongo, saxophone, flute etc) combined with the lighting in the surrounding area were perfect for reflecting the night atmosphere. At the end of each charanam, you will hear the additional voice, for example, “idhu thaan..” ending with saxophone followed by LRE’s voice in the same scale, just one of plethora of unbelievable genius composition by MSV/TKR. At the end of “anaithu vittaane”, the vibrato attached to the “ne” part was just perfect for LRE’s voice. Not even PSuseela would have rendered this song as perfectly as LRE did. At the same spot, use of xylophones to give the audience the feel of quiet cold night amidst water in the river was just yet another sign of creativity by MSV/TKR. What a combination! Only the King, MSV, could think of something like this in those days.

Sairam Subhashri mam.feel so good that our taste of songs are matching so well. Esp this Ammamma by LREswari mam is my all time favourite. Her voice is hypnotic husky and floors the audience.
