Played the roll so outstanding. Such a slick smooth guy and fitted the role perfect, great villian too. No other terminator villian actor has come close, apart from arnie in the first.

He's a great actor and very handsome. Those blue eyes are a thing of beauty. Couldn't take my eyes off of him or his eyes.
Funny you say that because I was only 10 when T2 came out, younger than Eddie Furlong yet I was way more fascinated by Robert even though he's technically old enough to be my father. To my eyes, Eddie was simply cute but I just couldn't get over how gorgeous Robert was, lol.
Robert Patrick is always going to be unforgettable as the T-1000, but I could actually see Billy Idol playing the role very well too. He has the attitude that could translate to a villain like that. I like Billy's music, and wish I could have seen a version of the movie where he played the T-1000 too.
Billy Idol was already very established. If he got the role instead of Robert, the latter might have remained a minuscule actor for the rest of his career. Still, it would have been interesting to see if Billy Idol could nail the role as well as Robert Patrick eventually did. I was only 10 years old when T2 came out and I just couldn't get over how stunning he was.

Robert Patrick had the look, The Charisma, the walk and run. That role was custom made for him perfectly..
I'm sure Robert's striking good looks in addition to his talent sealed the deal in getting him the T-1000 role. If he was ugly or just not that physically appealing, people might not have been as fascinated by his character.
As well as Terminator; Judgement day, he has played villainous roles in other films like Die Hard; die harder and The Faculty.
Robert also plays funny and dumb villans as well.

He is the perfect T1000
he is also one of my favorite actors.
What I like about his T-1000 he has a square face, very clear cheeks and easily tell it's a robot villain. Aviator sunglasses fits well with him too.
Billy Idol was a good choice too, he had the look and "bad vibe". Idol played "Cat" (Jim Morrison's drinking buddy) in The Doors movie the same year. But Patrick did an amazing job and wrote history cause of destiny.
people shit on Billy now that history has been written, but I also believe he would be fine as t1000.
I heard Blackie Lawless was up for it at one point too. That would’ve been interesting too.

Wish he had not been killed so early on in Die Hard 2. I know William Sadler was the main baddie but it would have been nice to see Patrick's character briefly go toe to toe against McClane.

Yes I had a behind the scenes magazine of T2 in the summer of 91 and some of the drawings were of a thin blonde guy with normal street clothes as the T1000 . Meant to be Robert Patrick was amazing in the role he captured Kyle Reese and the original 84 terminator into one . He looks like the protector character but he is the fierce killing machine.
Robert wasn't blond, though. He was a light brunet. Cameron actually wanted an actor with a more delicate build to play the T-1000 so that people wouldn't suspect how strong it was.
They picked the right guy. He made this movie along with Cameron’s vision.

Robert was very handsome as a young man. If you're talking about today, he actually looks a bit worn down because of heavy smoking and drinking but still better than a lot of other aged celebrities.

I don’t think I could have taken it seriously if Billy Idol had played the T1000. Apart from perfect jawline, he just doesn’t have ‘it’ that Robert Patrick did.
Billy Idol has played villains in other movies successfully. Cameron wouldn't have chosen him for the T-1000 role before his accident if he didn't think Billy Idol had what it took.

Holy shit Billy Idol as the T1000? Whoa that would have been different!
Not only was Billy Idol going to play the T-1000, he was going to have a mustache. It's mentioned in the script and you can see it in the storyboards. There's one brutal scene where the T-1000 tracks down Sarah in the desert after they left and he murders Enrique and his wife. The last shot in the scene was to be her point of view as the T-1000 points at her and forms a spike that fills the whole frame before going to black.
I really wish we could see those early storyboards with Billy Idol as the T-1000. It sucked that he had an accident but if it wasn't for that, the world might not have known about Mr. Patrick and how wonderful he was and still is.

Billy Idol was already pretty established and didn't need the role to further his career. I believe that Robert was a struggling young husband and father trying to make ends meet for his family so he needed the T-1000 role much more and if he didn't get it, who knows where he'd be with his acting career today.
