Robert Patrick tells multiple Clint Eastwood stories and shares what made Clint give him props one day on set after a monologue.

Robert Patrick (Peacemaker, Terminator 2) joins us this week and shares his unique perspective in this industry with a forty year tenure, no practical training, and missed opportunities before he found sobriety. Robert opens up on how despite how iconic his character as T-1000 was in Terminator, and how he owes his career to James Cameron, he had to change his appearance to distance himself from the character. We also talk about his chemistry and bond with John Cena, how Demi Moore’s psychic helped save his life, and how Robert got Clint Eastwood to break on set uncontrollably.

Robert Patrick shares what it’s like working on set with Clint Eastwood #insideofyou #robertpatrick #clinteastwood - Zábava
Clint Eastwood is the last of that special breed in Hollywood. We will never see his like again
No breed. Only Clint.
I love how stoked Robert got when he found out you worked with Clint Eastwood.
Everybody forgets he was on X-Files.... He fucking killed his role in that show
Just watching season 9 and he is fantastic in it.
Ah, the tormented agent John Doggett.
Not me, I didn't forget. I remember that he was on that show. Played Scully, a tough, mean ,no nonsense CIA type.
lol, that's the only thing I know him from, other than Terminator. He was great as Doggett. Didn't like him at first, but he grew on me.
I thought he was really good too. That episode he got eaten freaked me out
I always felt Robert was under appreciated because his acting is so effortlessly natural. The T1000 was so effective because Robert did not overplay or overact. His acting is so instinctive you only see the character. Unfortunately I think this has led to him not being appreciated more which is a real shame. I loved him in Copland, a movie chock full of great performances.
Bridge to terabithia.
He did well in " The X Files ".
He kind of got typecast for a while after that, which was unfortunate.
Yeah he's a great actor. He was great in Copland. I also enjoyed his turn in Fire in the Sky in 1993.
@@ActionHero29 great movie
Robert Patrick's Clint Eastwood impression makes me realize that Clint Eastwood needs his own ASMR channel
I'd subscribe to a channel of this guy doing Clint Eastwood ASMR if the dialogue was good.
Have Effemeral Rift write the material.
I can't even imagine having like a legend in ones field, like Clint Eastwood is to acting, just go to you and say "that was great, you did great, I always had trouble with that but you did it amazing".
I probably wouldn't stop smiling for a month. To have a legend in his field compliment you like that... oof.
Right?!?! When someone of THAT caliber of expertise and reputation to say something like that, you know you did good.
I would treasure that moment until the day I died.
I am one of the fortunate people who is not involved in show business to have actually met Clint Eastwood. He is a true gentleman, a class act through and through.
Awww. Nobody bit on you’re reflective glory
Silly post and completely uncalled for...but you do you, Boo.
@@stephieklassen3473 you did
Robert Patrick seems like such a good dude! I’m loving Michael Rosenbaums podcast and guests
Just recently found out about this podcast and it's awesome. It's so great listening to these podcast while working
Fun fact: Robert After leaving college, Patrick worked as a house painter and continued as such until a boating accident in 1984 in Lake Erie. He swam for three hours in order to save others still stranded on the accident site, and nearly drowned in doing so.[
Robert Patrick is a class act! He was probably one of the best experiences I've ever had meeting a celebrity at a convention.
He's a very laid back cool guy. Friendly and easy to talk to and just loves his craft and the fans.
@@jstonerganjasaurus4238 Hope you're not a brain surgeon, gulp!.....😉
What a great guy. He was so menacing in T2, now I just want to have a beer with him.
I'd love to see his reaction to the Golden Globes joke by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler about the Zero Dark Thirty director being used to torture by being married to James Cameron .
@@akfreed6949 No matter how many time I see it, I'm always chuckling at his little move in the "Peacemaker" intro. For those who've saw it you know exactly which one I'm talking about.
Ran like the wind
Didn't you listen to him discussing his issues with alcoholism?
@MrMamooshka yeah, don't want him falling off the wagon. Buy him a soft drink😉👍🏼
Ill never forget Robert's acting in The Unit, One of my favourite army type shows
It's based on Inside The Delta Force by Eric Haney E-9 ret US Army Ranger, SFOD-1.
It still pisses me off that they cancelled that show right when the storyline was getting really good...kept hoping they would at least do a sequel movie to tie up those plot threads but nope...
Ricky tik!
Amazing show,so underrated
I loved that show. Canceled way too soon.
01:23 I don't know what it was about Robert's reaction, but I've never
heard a more genuine sound of pride and joy than when he reacted to
hearing what work Michael did with Eastwood. a "real" moment and I
can't exfoliating why.
What word did you mean to write instead of exfoliating?
It is a great movie
@@NotDuncan He meant _explain_ Why he put exfoliating is puzzling.
I know right. I thought he was gonna be like "oh yeah? ok but let me tell you about MY experience with Clint."
Wow, I loved Robert’s genuine exclamation of how Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is a great movie when Michael said he was in it.
Robert Patrick was perfect in The Peacemaker. He gave the show the gravitas it needed to ground the silliness to a compelling story. He was essential to making that show work.
Very true. White Knight, best name ever for a racist "superhero". Its perfect. I always love the actors that make me really hate them (character). And those are normally the nicest ones IRL. Like first time I saw Ralph Fiennes was for Schindlers List..... how do you not need therapy after roles like that?
When Clint Eastwood says "I realy admire you guys" Ya know ya doing it right...Wow! that must have been an incredible feeling coming from such a legend.
Both of these men here give you that feeling that there are still good people left in acting. Both have character!
😂
Robert Patrick is one of the sweetest, most kind guys around. I love him so much and he was just a fantastic interview when I spoke to him. He'll remember you forever. Just a doll.
U wouldn’t think someone tht was made of liquid metal would be so nice
I heard he kills homeless people at weekends, could be just a rumor though.
His impression of Clint is 100%
Patrick played one of the greatest villains of all time in T2. His physical and vocal acting performance was spot-on perfect for the character.
You get these folks to talk plainly and that is a sign of a great interview.
Total class act. Love the Eastwood anecdotes!
Robert Patrick is great in every role he is in. Casting him is always a great idea.
Robert Patrick is one of those actors that knows what kind of movie he is in and can calibrate what he's doing to match the material, even when the filmmaker doesn't seem to get what kind of movie he or she is making.
Robert Patrick is a friggin legend. Love this guy since Terminator but he's also been in a lot of great stuff like X-files, from dusk til dawn, the walking dead and more. Big time fan. I met him once at a convention way way back and just easy to talk to guy.
I loved The Unit. He's definitely a great actor as his characters seem like a departure from who he is in real life!
robert patrick is a complete legend! such a great actor
“I love Neil, I love his love of Catholicism…” Wow, you don’t hear something like that very much coming out of Hollywood very much nowadays. God bless you Patrick! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😇
Catholicism loves the kids!
@@interdimensionalsteve8172 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
Robert IS a great guy. Had a great experience meeting him in the early 2000's. Real class act.
Patrick Robert sounds like a Hell of a guy!
Clint Eastwood cast you because you are good, Robert Patrick is underrated.
Robert Patrick is one fine actor.Period.....
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil was a great movie and had an incredible soundtrack too.
Although Robert has been in many iconic projects over the years, he'll always be known as the T1000 and Jesse's father in "Bridge to Terabithia" to me!
@jay several times
I was a 90’s kid…I remember doing a report on loving T2 and I would always rent it…
Robert Patrick is an ABSOLUTE LEGEND! IMO, VERY Underrated!!!!
the way you went in/out of the character of clint eastwood was amazing. truly impressed.
RP was the most intense appearing actor in the history of hollywood and would scare the shit out of me just coming on screen.
Let the guest speak without interrupting him is a charisma few interviewers have.
RP plays such a great villain, he’s got some of the best sarcastic humor I love it. 😂
What an outstanding and versatile actor he is. He always comes across as a very decnt chap. People, rightly, bring up his performance in T2, The Unit, X-Files and many other memorable outings, but one that often gets overlooked is his appearance in the Sopranos. From what I gather, he had very little preparation time and yet blended in seamlessly and held his own against the powerhouse that was James Gandalfini.
I didn't realize Clint Eastwood did "midnight in the garden of good and evil." That movie is great. Still holds it's own even today.
Who would have thought the guy playing a lab technician in “Creature From the Dark Lagoon” would go on to be one of Hollywood’s most enduring actor and director?
Nothing cooler than two actors you respect looking up to another actor they respect and doing impressions of him being respectful lol.
He looks younger than Edward Furlong.
I've never really seen him just talk before, what a great dude. Good show.
Clint just understands everything about movies. He knows the challenges for the cameraman, the soundguys or the actors in every scene.
Underrated podcast!!!!!!!!
Man, I need to meet someone like Robert Patrick. He really seems like one of those guys you could talk with for hours, not just listen to. Some people want you to listen to what they have to say and only that, they couldn't care less about what you want to bring to the conversation, but Robert does.
I've heard this about Clint from other actors. It sounds like he's approaching his directing from an actor's standpoint. I think it really helps when a director has a lot of acting experience.
There's a YT clip where it's explained. It's because when he was doing western TV shows, the director would yell action and it would spook the horses. So when Mr Eastwood went into directing, he never yelled.
czcams.com/video/96dvyy2PQMY/video.html
There was one story from an actor I can’t remember the name of who said he did his lines, turned to Clint and say I think I need to do that again. Clint just quietly said “Why, just to waste everyone’s time?”
Clint’s directing is so effortless and that makes everyone just flow. The downside is that he makes it looks so effortless, his fold d on t always get the recognition they deserve. Ironically it’s the same with Patrick here.
@@invisiblekid99that was Matt Damon.
Even in a couple of Turds that Robert has made he's been the standout. Great, and very underappreciated actor. Loving him right now in the second season of Reacher!
Holy shit I’ve always liked this guy as an actor, but he seems like such a genuine and kind guy.
This video and channel popped up on my feed. Glad i watched it. Gave me a new insight into being a leader. The way these guys talked about how clint eastwood communicates with his actors is inspiring. I wont forget this. Thank you
Seems like a genuine (actual) cool guy!
I love "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", watched it dozens of time, and never new that Clint directed it. But considering the quality of all his movies, it makes sense now that I think of it.
One of the most insightful videos of actors being human beings and sharing all that glorious behind the scenes stuff. Thank you!
i like watching/listening to artists talk .
Always find it fun to watch actors that have been on my favorite shows, and see how they are in real life. Be easy to just hang out with y’all an shoot the breeze.
Talking about Respect ...... That was actually a T-1000 imitating Robert Patrick under Clint Eastwoods Direction !! 😎
His role in The Unit is underrated too.... brilliant
I listened to you tell that story about Clint and when you said "You want another one?" I was like "Yeah!"
Clint Eastwood; the most honest man in Hollywood? I could see it.
Everyone adores Clint Eastwood, me included ❤️
I don't . I respect him as an actor and director BUT he treated women like crap . He practically ruined his ex girlfriend's Sondra Locke career and was unfaithful to her .
@@akfreed6949 you should look at the other side of that story before you cast shade at Clint Eastwood. She was a bit of a nightmare and after he left his wife for her, she reneged on leaving her husband so their relationship was left in limbo. You don’t expect anyone to hang around with only one leg in on a relationship. You can expect him to be pissed.
@@manofbeard He was married when he began with Sondra . And then he cheated on her too .
@@akfreed6949 What's his side of that story though
@@ronniemassart3834 I dunno . There's a clip where I think it was 60 Minutes where the reporter got personal about him being unfaithful and Clint gave him the pissed Dirty Harry look and I don't think he even replied .
I want to see both of you in more movies and tv shows. Amazing acting🥰
YOURE DOING A GOOD JOB DAVEY!
He was fantastically evil in Peacemaker.
A total A hole.
Amazing performance
Patrick is describing exactly how Lee Marvin was regarding ruining filming schedules out of spite.
The thing about Clint Eastwood that makes him a great director is that his movies are always finished on time and under budget.
Do we know who was referring to in this segment?
@@dmendez77 Later in the interview he talks about Copland and mentions that it happened on that film. He didn't give a name but considering who his character has scenes with, it's either Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta or Sylvester Stallone. My money's on Stallone.
Just finished season 2 of Reacher, Robert does not disappoint. Thanks for the interview, he seems like a good guy, always nice to see that in their industry.
Clint will be missed deeply. None like him.
All praise Clint Eastwood 🙌🏿
All praise to JESUS CHRIST🙏🏻
Always the Best insights on this podcast man.
Robert Patrick is such an incredible actor in terminator that he scares me because I always portray him as the villain. 😅
Such a cool little video! T-1000 and The Flash talking about The Man with No Name!
It's amazing how actors can memorize lines. I struggle to remember my grocery list.
Great story
Clint Eastwood is the best.
Robert Patrick down to earth guy 😎🤙
He sure could run fast in Terminator 2
Robert definately put himself on the map with that awesome (T-2) role...he's definately been busy eversince.
I knew someone that worked with him. There was a reason he didn't say "Action". When he started and was doing westerns they would get old time movie directors. They would yell "action" and scare all the horses so I guess he doesn't want to scare the horses (or actors)
Tom Hanks told that story on the Graham Norton show a few years ago. 👍🏻
Some directors want people to be focused. I like the fact that Eastwood does films with no nonsense and does not get into the whole francy art stuff doing hundreds of takes and just settles for the right amount of takes.
His movies tend to come in on budget, on time and are a very high quality production.
Clint Eastwood yelling could scare an army of men into filling their boots with piss. Thats why he doesnt do it.
@@bloodlinefilms Clint doesn't yell, he doesn't need to. If he's mad at you he'll give you a cold hard stare and that's all he needs to do.
Wow! Great interview!
That makes me love Clint and Robert! Cool stories!
Robert is so great! I love him in whatever he does! The Unit and also as the T-1000! HFS! So great! I believe him, whoever he is!
I took a flight with Neal McDonough. He was in business, and his family (I think it was 5 kids ranging from teens to toddlers iirc) were in coach. We had to take a shuttle to the gate after landing and I was right near them. His teenager joked with him about being up front and he replied "Work hard and you might get up there one day" We caught eyes and I just gave him a small nod and smile. What a great lesson. I would have loved to pick his brain about Band of Brothers and get a photo but I think its rude to bother someone when they are with family. Several people did ask for selfies though, and he was very gracious.
T-1000 is one of the greatest villains all time…in the top 3 with Ledger’s Joker and Darth Vader
Gabriel Byrne playing the devil.
@@alexgillis9446 His role in End Of Days was even bolder in contrast to his priest in Stigmata.
@@jeffthompson9622 he nailed both roles. His devil was chilling.
@@alexgillis9446 The contrast was made stronger by the proximity of the movies' releases.
Robert Patrick fantastic actor and regular cool Joe.
I remember hearing someone saying when Clint starts rolling he just says something like : "Ok , uhhh do your thing". Cracks me up he's been doing that for over 50 years in the directing chair.
Doesn’t get much better in life but a compliment from Clint -THAT - is a keeper! 🍺🍺🍺🍺!
great interview learning so much gems behind the scences
Loved Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil!
Fire In The Sky, Robert Patrick nails it!
Went and rewatched that scene, very interesting.
He was great in Soprano’s and really enjoying him in 1923
Buncha down to earth doods... love it and Clint Eastwood is a f@#ck8ng legend.
Clint Beastwood!
This was such a good episode
"The coffee's hot. The night is young."
Adding Flags of our fathers to my watch list. Clint Eastwood is an incredible director
Hahaha….That Was Great, Patrick.
I Love Stories Of “Behind The Scenes”. I Really Appreciate The Work You Put Into Your Art.👏👏👏
The Unit - An Incredible Series!
Robert Patrick is a cool dude, I bet he never had any script problems in the terminator 🙂
Didn’t know Clint Eastwood directed midnight in the garden of good and evil. What a great film!
Clint is awesome. Too bad we get old.
Rob's good people. Ran into him and he was the kindest most unpretentious dude ever
