Robert Patrick (Peacemaker, Terminator 2) joins us this week and shares his unique perspective in this industry with a forty year tenure, no practical training, and missed opportunities before he found sobriety. Robert opens up on how despite how iconic his character as T-1000 was in Terminator, and how he owes his career to James Cameron, he had to change his appearance to distance himself from the character. We also talk about his chemistry and bond with John Cena, how Demi Moore’s psychic helped save his life, and how Robert got Clint Eastwood to break on set uncontrollably.
Robert Patrick on Being Saved by Demi Moore, Terminator Realization, Chemistry with John Cena, Getting Sober & More! #insideofyou - Zábava
While he has a great career, Robert Patrick is one of those actors where I don't understand why his not considered A list. He elevates everything that he's in.
MONSTER SQUAD AND SAFE HOUSE
Character actors rarely take the lead. David Morse, Will Patton and lot of others elevate everything they are in. They don't need to be on any list other than the credits.
He's not? But everyone knows who he is. He's like hollywood royalty.
A list to me
GANGSTER YE' MEAN MICK ;)
His portrayal of John Doggett in the X-Files is one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. He owned that character. It's his best work IMHO. One of my favorite actors hands down...
Agreed.
I agree. Of course I love the main cast of David and Gillian. But i loved the new dynamic between Gillian and Robert. Where Scully was the skeptic with Mulder, Doggett became the skeptic and Scully was the conspiracist/unorthodox agent. I loved that Doggett, was a loyal to his friends, an effective agent, a man of principle, ethics and justice. He often didn't believe the stuff that Scully believed in, but he backed her up anyway.
I'm a grown man, and Robert Patrick brought me to tears. He's not a Hollywood elitist-- he's a normal guy who loves his craft. Thanks for having him.
Hollywood elitist? The most entitled people in the US are conservative religious people who think they are better than everyone else... on the planet.
He's a real actor.
@@UpsonPrattJr. 100%.
He's humble and grateful for what he has and has been able to spend his life doing what he loves.
you are not a grown man
When he said he loved John Doggett the most, this X-Phile was over the moon.
13 minutes in and you just know this is a great conversation, not an interview, an actual human conversation.
Well, he's programmed to be good at pretending to be human ;)
Totally. And Rosey gained a new good friend as well
Robert Patrick as Liquid Metal T1000 is still an electrifying performance. Not many characters in film did I feel the same threatening presence and memory that comes from T2 - saw this as a kid and still my favorite movie.
Robert's character was a novelty in the early 90s when CGI of that caliber was still fairly new. Asides from his amazing talent, his striking good looks as well as Billy Idol's accident probably sealed the deal in getting him the T-1000 role too. I think that if Robert was ugly or not that physically appealing, people might not have been fascinated by the T-1000 character, even with the liquid metal special effects.
Robert was perfect for the role. Totally different to Arnold’s performance
The fact Patrick hardly talks in the movie and had to rely on screen presence and charisma shows how perfectly cast he was.
Shoutout to his brother Richard Patrick, singer of the band Filter 🤘
I did a script polish on that movie Robert did in Cleveland. It was LOW LOW budget, but the director did what he could with what he had. Having Robert Patrick and Michael Rooker naturally elevate material on their own.
Another great guest. Robert Patrick was open and honest about his life.
His Sopranos arc was amazing, under rated and heartbreaking.
Holy crap! I didn't even realize that was him!
Such a likeable but tragic character. He was great
I think he was lucky that he didn't get beat up for the way he treated the guy who shot dead by Janice
He was great in that. You believed in how his life was unraveling in his story.
Couldn’t have said it better.. really showed his range.. “GET BACK IN YOUR HOLE DAVEY!!”
When he course corrected on "which character do you identify with the most" and said John Doggett, I literally jumped up and clapped.
Michael you're so good at adapting to the differences in interviewees. Some you have to ask a million questions, some (like Robert Patrick) you say 3-4 words and they respond with a complete coherent short story, and you just stay out of the way and let them talk. Great interview.
Spot on comment!
"I'm a fucking ghost dude!" 🤣 Man I love Robert Patrick, what a legend
This and the interview with Michael Biehn were a breath of fresh air for me. Two incredibly talented actors who were really open, honest about their addiction to alcohol and all their weaknesses. This is a rarity nowadays and should be admired. Very very inspiring.
This was HANDS DOWN one of my favorite interviews you have done, and the list I have loved is extensive! I look forward every week to watching. Best podcast available from where I am sitting!
Totally agree, awesome guest, awesome interview. great stories. His life saving Harley story needs to be recreated in a film/tv show.
As always Robert Patrick was brilliant in T2. He was such a bad ass in X-Files then he took on vampires...hero!!!
He is the type of actor who doesn't phone it in even if he is in a bad movie or a movie he knows will go straight-to-video. Last year someone convinced me to watch From Dusk Till Dawn 2 and it certainly isn't a good movie, but it is still better than many horror movies that get theatrical released. This is in large part because Robert Patrick elevates the material.
His part in x files is really under rated, i think duchovny leaving left ppl thinking no one could replace him but robert made that role his own and different from mulder
@@clauderain4888 I preferred Robert
@@brianharper1611 FDTD2 is a fun movie.
His stint on x files is underrated. Some good stuff during his run.
Recently I rewatched Fire In The Sky and had forgotten how great of an actor Robert Patrick was in that movie. Always enjoy it when he shows up in something.
Robert Patrick was one of the main characters on The Unit, a truly great TV show.
The Unit is still one of my favorite shows of all time & Col. Ryan was an integral part of the show.
I love how this man has played some ruthless and nasty characters and yet is such a kind soul. A real tribute to his talent. Just rewatched Terminator 2: Judgment Day recently and not only is the film still a masterpiece but his performance remains brilliant. Such simple choices made the character truly standout.
Robert was pretty funny in Striptease as a wheelchair thief. The man has good range as an actor.
Two of the best villains meet... T2 meets Lex Luthor. I've said it 1000 times and I'll say it 1000 times more... Michael, you're, to date, the BEST Lex Luthor ever!! And Robert is probably still one of the best science fiction bad guys ever as well.
Man, I just noticed that. He was an awesome Lex Luthor.
Gene Hackman is a close second.
Fucking hell. Didn’t realize this was lex Luther
1:09:55 "You're a great guy." I felt that. There's not better compliment than that when you meet someone new and wonder where all the time went talking to him. You gotta have Robert back again. Best guest so far.
Man. This may be one of my favorite episodes. There was not a second where I wanted to be interrupted or even interrupt the flow of this conversation. Absolutely "Inside of You" is currently my favorite podcast.
Robert Patrick was really great in the show Scorpion.
Hell yes. The episode with his repressed memories had me in tears. Fantastic performance.
@@danielbanks6569 Totally agree. He should have won an award for that performance.
Don’t forget how good he was in Copland. A truly awesome film.
Really is an underrated film
I love, love, love Robert Patrick in everything but I have a soft spot for his villain in The Marine. He made that movie fun and elevated the entire thing to something we watch all the time. Fun movie and a great interview.
The funniest part I liked in "The Marine" was when Manu Bennet looks at Robert during the highway chase and compares John Cena with terminator "This guy is like the Terminator". I liked Robert's reaction on that part like "Bro, any idea who I am? The T-1000"
I love that Mr. Patrick was the first guy Bruce Willis shoots in Die Hard 2.
That's right, I never realised that. He's not the first guy he kills, but he's the first to get shot.
He was...a sitting duck, ironically
I'm really happy he mentioned John Doggett! Love that character.
Until the very end, I was bummed there was no question about his time in the X-Files......LOVED him in the X-Files.....and then he said it was the role he most related to......so then I was better!!! GREAT INTERVIEW!
Absolutely love Robert’s honesty. What an interview! Great actor and great person! 🔥 🔥 🔥
In Billy Idol's autobiography he said Cameron wrote the T1000 for him but his bike crash put him out of the picture. And the rest is history for Robert.
Robert Patrick is the man , loved this episode and loved how genuine he is with talking about his life
Robert Patrick was one of the best ever. He is the bar for being the best guest on here. Amazing actor and person
He is such an amazing human. So sweet , so sincere, so genuine
He's reacted or responded to a few comments I've made on this things before which surprised and impressed me. Not that he'd answer me in particular, but the fact that he's one of those who will engage with "the little people" so to speak. Says a lot about him as a person. Very sweet.
I have been a fan of Mr Robert Patrick ever since he appeared as a Terminator in Terminator 2. I loverd him on The X-Files.
Just met this dude today at Harley Davidson in Utah, he was very sweet and kind!!! Such a great man I love him in the men who stares at goats❤️❤️❤️
I really wish Patrick could have his moment, like Michelle Yeoh did recently. Its someone who has been around for a long time, does great work, but has never landed that perfect role to make him really noticed for the great talent he is.
Iconic actor and great person
Honestly, one of the most authentic interviews ive watched on the tube! Been following Mr. Patrick since he played T 1000. What a great man. Thank for the "higher power" reference. Gratitude is a super power!! Great show.
available from where I am sitting!
You've got to have him back. This is my favourite show you've done.
He's Great!!!
Robert Patrick is a great storyteller. I enjoyed this episode so much!
I really miss Scorpion. Great character in Cabe Gallo.
This is one of the most interesting and fascinating interviews I have ever seen! Robert Patrick has really great stories and is a fascinating man and a good actor!
And Michael,U are, without exaggerating, one of the very few good interviewers around who turn an interview into a great conversation!
I think people love Robert because he is genuine. Full stop. Im 38. I grew up only knowing him as T1000 and had all these ideas of him as an actor. I just started watching XFiles 4 months ago and instantly fell in love with that show. It wasnt until season 7 or 8 that I discovered really who Robert Patrick is as an actor. What an absolutely brilliant performance he gave as John Dogget. I think I love that character so much because it IS Robert Patrick. Hes a good man in that show. Compassionate. Honorable. And I think it comes through so well because thats likely just who he is in real life. What an absolutely fucking dynamite episode.
Robert Patrick and Richard Patrick are both fantastic.
Robert Patrick is such an amazing actor and it all started in T2: Judgement Day. The guy was really amazing in that movie and brought the T-1000 to life. He's been in so many movies like Die Hard 2, From Dusk Till Dawn Series, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, etc. Awesome actor!
He was in Die Hard 2?
@@ninjanibba4259 random bad guy number 37. He was one of the terrorists at the unfinished terminal where they ambush the swat team,
@@ninjanibba4259 Yes, he played one of the terrorists.
@ninjanibba4259 , He didn't hang around too long as one of Stuart's contingent. He was the first guy McClain killed in the Annex Skywalk sequence.
@@ninjanibba4259 yes he was , do u remember the army guys who turn out to be bad and try to kill Bruce and rescue the bad guy from confinement ? He was one of them ! I never got a break as of yet 😮😮😊
A lot of people didn’t like his character in X Files, but I really enjoyed his performance! I would have loved to see a legit spin-off with John Dagget.
He's probably the only guy out there that could come in and fill any sort of void with 'Mulder" being MIA. It's even better watching it now
I wish the series started with him - duchovny sucked
@@RagedContinuum Nah there would be no X-Files without Duchovany playing Mulder
Omg I love Robert Patrick! His character in Stripteese is epic! The scene where he interrupts Demi's dance with Bert Renalds and he has that golf club strapped to his arm using it as a splint and dances to Sweet Dreams while hammered puts me in tears every time I see it!
Haha! “I don’t have your daughter, you’re confused. Also, it’s AN axe!” 😂
"Evening party-goers"
This week’s episode is delightful. Robert definitely opens up and has so many great stories. He has played so many great characters. He has a great perspective. A part 2 would be awesome.
He loves his mom and his wife...what a gem.💎
What a mensch! He created one of the greatest villains ever.
Glad you got him on, Rosie. Fella seems like a lovely bloke.
I loved his role on this show called Scorpion. He was great in that.
I am 10 minutes in. I am listening while I am working. I have to stop and watch this at home so these two fine gentlemen have my absolute undivided attention. What an amazing conversation.
Whenever I see Robert Patrick I think of Ray Liotta shoving a dart up his nose in Cop Land. There ain't no movie magic with that scene, that dart is literally on the verge of ripping through. That's commitment.
This has been one of the two best conversations that I have seen on your show. Really fantastic! The other was Alan Ritchson.
LOL how is there another Claudine whom is such a big fan and asking him about the X Files!!?? I am so glad he said Doggett was the one character he identified with the most and was his most fave character he played!!! Makes me so happy!!
You should checkout his subtle cameo as T-1000 in "Last Action Hero" which also featured Catherine Trammel" from Basic Instinct.
Robert Patrick..So underrated! What a great guy..So funny & honest! The best podcast so far! Michael & Robert worked off each other so well..I like the way he includes Rudy/Ryan also :-) Respect! Pure Gent.
24:57 “I know you’re trying to get inside me. I’ll put up a perimeter.” 😆🤣
25:46 “I want to be an actor!” “Eat your steak” 😆
I love Robert's voice...listening to him talk is so relaxing 😌
Michael, thank you for having Robert on. Great guy, great actor... wonderful conversation.
If you ever get a chance checkout Gangster Squad and he plays this old school modern gunslinger who plays a mentor to Michael Pena's character and just a total badass. I think with T2 where he plays T-1000 it's almost like miming with his portrayal. Everything with the T-1000 is without words through gestures, expression, and movement which is why it's such a memorable performance that will last forever in every fan's psyche.
T2 one of my Fav films of all time and RP was a Massive part of that. He got comfortable with you and opened up and that Takes a lot. Also his wife is clearly a soul mate 💪🏻
Best interview of an actor on a podcast in recent years. Rosenbaum, you have THE gift! Keep up the incredible work. Huge film fan and you’re the next Charlie Rose in my opinion.
Robert Patrick... a GREAT interview!!! Must have him on again Michael and Rudy! 🙂
Yeah, this wasnt enough! Get him again! We need more Robert Patrick!
Robert Patrick is just plain awesome! He makes everything he's in better!
I think he is only actor where his character gets killed of by action stars: Stallone in Cop Land, T2: Judgement Day by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis in Die Hard 2: Die Harder lol.
What a great episode! I love how honest and sharing he was about his life. I hope he’ll come back for another episode! If you want another guest who is frank and a great storyteller then I suggest William Friedkin.
i couldn´t really see his mom but as a straight man: i bet she fades right away in comparison to Robert himself in T2. possibly the best movie ever.
To be honest I wasn't expecting how good this is going to be. Amazing conversation with a great guest. One of the best.
We need to put him in every movie possible from now until he says he’s tired of it. He’s one of the nicest and most talented dudes in the world.
Wow I did not expect this from Robert Patrick, I was always a fan but I didn't know he was such a deep and interesting person, what a wonderful interview
Robert Patrick is an amazing actor! Diverse, intense, often dynamic but listening to him talk with Michael impressed me so much more. Kind, loving family man and smart. Fun and funny he's a delight to listen too! Thank you Patrick and Michael! Bravo guys!
The legend Robert Patrick.
I met Robert Patrick last August and he was so nice, relatable and easy to talk to. Our kids are around the same ages. Unfortunately I missed meeting Michael Rosenbaum in December.
Madam did you ask him for an autobiography.
Yes I did and I got one.
This guy is a complete legend.
A childhood icon for me. He managed to follow another icon's legendary performance and create an equally great character/villain worthy of remembering 30 years later. The odds ought to have been against that happening but happen it did. Cameron chose well. And lets not forget his role in The Sopranos - ''Our kids went to the same school together!''
Probably my most favourite episode of the podcast. Love Robert Patrick and love these two bouncing off each other, Ryan’s inclusion, or “Rudy” great episode.
I just watched the trailer for "Spaz". I'm definitely going to watch the full doc now. Thanks Mr. Patrick for the recommendation!
Trouble with the Curve is one of my favorites, really loved the little behind the scenes story.
This was such a great interview! Robert Patrick is one of my favorite actors and he always played great villians in my favorite action science fiction movies for sure. Robert Patricks career is dynamic and he seems down to earth and humble and is still a great actor and his range and skill is so versatile and unlimited. I hope he doesn't retire or quit acting and I wish him all the best. Thanks for having him on Michael Rosenbaum.
I like how Robert can play goofy and funny characters as well as mean and nasty ones.
Not an interview, this just two people talking and having a great time connecting
YES!!! ROBERT PATRICK! Love his honesty and loved his portrayls over the years but especially as villains!
He was pretty good in true blood, and wasn't completely a villain just a lone wolf type.
@@bassnazi4713 Literally a wolf.
Robert Patrick seems very humble. And it’s so great to see his personality. God bless ❤
One of the most understated actor in history….. Robert Patrick is legend…. end of story.
I adore him & everything he’s performed in.
His brother is the lead singer of Filter
Mr. Robert Patrick thank you! He will forever be loved and I think he was incredible in the Sopranos. Thank you Rosenbaum... Incredible interview! Hands down... You ask the right questions and so respectfully. Love Love Love this podcast!
I loved him in The Falculty. Underrated actor indeed!!!
Met this dude at Megacon. Such a cool guy. He was impressed by a rare T2 poster. Almost gave it to him as a gift
Omg!!!!!! Please have him back hes so candid, love it!!
Incredible actor and a heartfelt chat....
over an hour and it went by so quickly, was nice hearing him talk about his life.
Gosh dang I've always liked Robert Patrick, now I know why I've always like Robert Patrick... Thanks for that!
I could listen to you interview Robert for hours. Fantastic interview, fantastic guest. Amazing.
This was wonderful! He was so enthusiastic to be there and talk! Great stories.
Three words. Robert Patrick Legend. Nobody has ever come close to his portrayal of the T1000, EVER!!!! Such intense focus!!!
i meet him a year ago, one of the highlights of my journalist job. One of the most sincere and sympathetic actors. A no bullshit guy.
LOVE THIS!! He is speaking true to life and himself. People need to hear how he is searching for purpose. We all should seek purpose.
Best thing about Tuesdays 💙
Don’t know much about Robert Patrick, but I’ve seen his face in different things. Looking forward to getting to know him through your interview. Hope you have an amazing week!! ❤️
Happy Tuesday Michael 💙
He is Awesome!
Great conversation, I wish it was longer!
For some reason i could listen this guy for hours.
