Yes yes!! As much as I love the idea of a slow paced life with no stress etc. I find myself getting bored quickly with my hermit modes with once again needing a surge of excitement (an annoying revolving door that is apparently broken, requiring maintenance to make an adjustment so it stops!). I have been trying to not let the dishes stay in the sink overnight (lets be real...a couple days) less and less just because it does feel great to wake up to something that you don’t see and is off your mind for a fresh start to the day. I find that I can function very well when I’m in a “fight or flight” ball of stress fire compared to many of those around me who typically reply with “screw all that”! I read this article a couple weeks back that is the main topic for my next vid. It is based on “facing your fears” (yes, different I know from procrastination, but I’m staying in the lane I promise!) from the legendary surfer Laird Hamilton. There is a quote (paragraph) in there that says:
“I tell people all the time they should get scared. It’s good for our systems,” he says. “Our systems were designed to be under threat. Want to see an antelope run fast? Have it get chased by a cheetah. Fear makes you see better, it makes you hear better, it makes you think better - once you’re used to harnessing it.” - Laird Hamilton
I believe that heavily articulates why we can get those “A’s” in school doing those classic INFP procrastinating bingers last minute!! It was always frustrating having “mom” etc constantly reminding you that a big project is soon due which the volume of her chatter would grow closer and closer to the due date. We start to feel that final hours pressure and then do what we do - BAM “B-“!!! (sorry Steve, I wasn’t “that great” of a student...).
So yeah, I find that all my senses are much more heightened when under pressure to clean a house with company coming over in an hour, or some project is due right around the corner etc. We do love our quiet processing mind time, but also crave those little bursts of extreme chaos which I believe makes us feel “alive”! I do kinda wish I can find a better balance from the current “CZcams documentary watching” to the next day “jumping off some cliff into shark infested water” *I don’t do this, come on people!...but you get the point!
Thanks again for taking the time out of your life Steve to make another video for all of us! It’s appreciated 👍🏻
    Sean

" those classic INFP procrastinating bingers last minute!!" ...yes! It took me a while to realize that time pressure is a good motivator. The trick is to not miss the deadline and do other positive things while we are procrastinating.. :-) Thanks for the comment!

Jung once said that all people (including non-HSP's) "have a mighty dislike of all intentional effort and are addicted to absolute laziness untill circumstances prod them into action", so I don't have to be ashamed LOL😄! But of course it especially goes for HSP's since it is a way to avoid stress. For me it is also partly caused by my perfectionism, which seems to be an innate treat of HSP's. High standards often got me trapped in overanalysis and ruminating if what I did was completely right. It made whatever I did sometimes quite exhausting. That and my (over)sensitivity prevented me many times from doing new things in the outer world. Household things I procrastinate because I regard them as an annoying waste of time.
Stimulation is what we need. Especially contact with other people, albeit tiring and risky for HSP's. I will certainly not call my mom 😖, because she mistreated me in a narcissistic way and always refuses to understand how I feel. But other HSP's can be very stimulating. Finding fellow-HSP's is really important for us I think. It makes us feel understood, and encourages us to do things. Your vids are something in that direction. So thanks again Steve.😉
By the way, Enya is nr.1 for me!

Hi Merlin! I related so much to your comment. I'm a huge fan of Jung as well. Yeah, I crave being understood, but in normal life, I have to wear a mask of insensitivity/stoicism (at times) and not show people my truest self (for example, at work). However, hanging with my HSP friends is so effortless and easy...we can all pretty just be ourselves and relax and there is so little judgement or toxic/ego competition. It's nice. ...and your observation about why I do the podcast is astute. It truly is one of the ONLY places I can just share my thoughts with others, and some people relate, but everyone is nice, non-judgmental, and seems feel my intention is good. It's keeping me sane.. LOL!! Peace!

Merlin - we need to be friends!!!!! Lol. Forget about Steve!!! (Joking - Steve is my boy!!). 🤪
Followed you throughout the whole comment and much relate! I will second the notion that “perfectionism” is EXHAUSTING!!! I think to myself quite often where I should just lower my perfectionistic pursuits as i am confident my job will not be in jeopardy from the level I’m performing at compared to peers (not being cocky just a fact). The ridiculously high standards in life I set for myself, are I would say, health damaging and places where I have just realized “the majority” won’t ever go. However, always when the thought of lowering those standards pops into my head I can’t because the “little annoying guy on my shoulder” keeps nagging me to keep on keeping on.
I swear “one day” I will find a balance but at 38 it’s still pretty elusive......

@@INFPHD Haha, welcome!! I guess we HSP's are all alike, somehow. I know my perfectionism will never wear off.

Here is a big ol' list of my personal song choices/suggestions for the playlist (taken from my own INFP/HSP playlist):
The Real World by Owl City
    Lucid Dream by Owl City
    Child by Lights
    Bleeding Heart by Regina Spektor
    The Listening by Lights
    The Show by Lenka
    Unique by Lenka
Pocketful of Poetry by Mindy Gledhill
Troubled by Elephante (ft Deb's Daughter)
Clear by Pusher ft Mothica (the original mix)
Dreams Don't Turn to Dust by Owl City (honestly... ANY Owl City song could work because he's an INFP /HSP himself)
    Warrior by AURORA
More of Us (ft Lenii) by Medii and Dreweybear
(last one lmao) who cares! by Sundial
--ALSO on the subject of procrastination... It's interesting to me because I have trouble prioritizing what is a "meaningless time filler" task. Every task that captures my attention feels important and like it adds to my quality of life overall. If I put off doing the dishes to play World of Warcraft, I justify it by saying that because I'm working on a story about my WoW characters, it's okay for me to play that instead. I tend to find reasons (or excuses I guess lol) to justify why I'm avoiding the task I don't want to do. I also was diagnosed with ADHD and it is common for ADHD folk to avoid mundane, everyday tasks because we get no immediate reward or joy out of them. The best way I've found to combat procrastination is the 2 minute rule. I tell myself I have to do a chore or task for 2 minutes, then I can go back to whatever I was doing. But by that time, either the task is already finished, OR I'm so far in, I can just finish it anyway. If not, at least it's halfway done.

Check out the movie Hedwig and the Angry Inch, if you haven’t already. It’s got so many layers, it’s very deep and conflicting, and the BEST music. Thanks for your podcast, I’m enjoying it very much!

@8:40 peeps project what they are yet to resolve internally, if you don’t self love you will seek this elsewhere. A few CZcamsrs come to mind if you want a deeper exploration of this. Carl Jung talks a lot about integrating the shadow (darker hidden self). There is a grace to presence to those who master that. Also procrastination can be seeking a better answer, getting insights whilst completely an unrelated task.

Just started this journey into self discovery and found out I'm an INFP. So happy to finally know why i am the way i am.
I'm currently struggling with my current career as a firefighter. I worked so hard to get here but i don't fit in and am really having a hard time with believing in myself and finding the motivation to really don shine. I'm uninspired and lonely. Any advice would be appreciated
