This is how they're classed in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Jedi Consulars can either be Jedi shadows, or Jedi Sages. Sage uses the force for attacking. Shadows can cloak, and pull sneaky attacks. On the imperial side its the same but instead of consular, they're called inquisitor. Inquisitor can either be a Sith Assassin, or a Sith Sorcerer. They're the coolest classes in the game to me. & The story behind it makes it all that more better. But theres a way you can explore a story based on any of the classes of force users just playing that game. Edit: Also the character they chose to use as the cannon main character is the sentinel. So for full immersion into legends lore, id follow the sentinel storyline. Theres playthroughs if you wanna see all of it. Including dlc and whatnot.

While this would seem to be the case, it could also be pointed out that the Jedi order generally did not like the Sentinels and underutilized them. So, they would more often than not be relegated to guard duty, or not placed on missions where their skills are actually useful, as long as the council was involved. Thus, they rarely got a chance to hone their skills, and were therefore not effective. If you don't use it, you lose it. So, the sentinels are a concept that would seem to come with extreme effectiveness, but if they were rarely used to capacity, they are basically functioning with their hands tied behind their backs.

In fact, As far as I know from the novels and movies, Threepio has only been mindwiped once when Bail Organa took custody of him to prevent the blabbermouth from divulging anything about Leia's relation to Padme to anyone listening. Artoo has never been mindwiped. This makes the two some of the only droids out there to pass whatever threshold defines sentience in the Star Wars universe. Palpatine was just too good at that force shrouding trick. Literally none of the Jedi had the faintest clue despite meeting him face to face on several occasions. These shadows where probably out searching the fringes (or just tied up with the whole war business), not the Jedi temple and senate chambers. No one suspected him until he choose to reveal himself and after that they didn't waste any time summoning a Sith hunter squad. Mace literally just grabbed any master he could reach at a minutes notice and ran directly to confront the threat without delay. A mistake perhaps, but he knew Palpatine knew that they knew so he could not afford to delay. He must have known plans against them where in motion, even if he didn't realize just how screwed the order was at this point.

I suppose there is no clear answer to that. It's like in the example (from KotOR): A Guardian would blast through a door and thus most spectacular announce himself while a Sentinel would pick the lock (silently) and thus keeping the momentum of surprise. So, I'd probably say that if you want to take down a single Sith with no urgency, Sentinels had the advantage because they could strike when the Sith is completely off-guard. If, on the other hand, you need to get the job done very quickly or face superior numbers, Guardians are more suitable.

So if the sentinels were throughout the galaxy, then some must have survived the purge, unless it was orchestrated. But sentinels would have seen the clones murderous intent and could have used force choke to get away at least.
Disappearing was something Jedi were good at. They might not even have had to kill them. Just make them pass out.
This is an idea, Many of the Jedi died because they were friends with the clones. At least this is my observation.
I love Star Wars, but tell Disney to stop being the Emperor's pawns. They have fallen to the dark side, and are having problems with reallity.

I'd love to get an explanation, ideally in canon, but the expanded universe is good too, on how it was that the Shadows didn't kill Palpatine long before he was really dangerous; and, if there are any stories of the Shadows attempting to undermine Plageus/Tyranus/Sidious' rise to power; or even Sidious & Vader in the Galactic Empire - complicated of course by the Jedi Purge... it just seems odd that the Shadows didn't go after Sidieous and Plageus, especially since Palpatine displayed Sith themes and artefacts in his chambers, publicly mocking the Jedi.

    • @eugenebelford9087
      @eugenebelford9087 Před 2 lety +1

I'd guess it's a combination of three factors:
      A) The Jedi as a whole - when compared to the number of worlds and number of beings in the Republic - were just way too few. So simply the chances that Palpatine would have crossed paths with a Sentinel (a small faction of the small group of Jedi) early enough in his training were ridiciously small.
      B) AFAIK, Palpatine had mastered the ability to mask his strength in the Force. Remember, he sat on a couple of occasions with even Yoda in a room and the later didn't notice it.
      C) Simply a legal/ political reason: After Palpatine had risen to political power, they couldn't act against him legally just on mere suspicion. Yes, he had those statues in his office and maybe they might derive from that the fact he could be someone worshipping Sith philosophy ... but that was entirely legal. Besides, again, see A): Was a Sentinel ever in his office to even notice that?
If anything, Palpatine was just as good or probably even better than any Sentinel at this sort of game of cloaks and daggers.

In all reality Force choke, though more grotesque in appearance, could be more benign than cutting someone down with a light saber. Force choke could be used to subdue someone and knock them out without killing. Cutting from a light saber is either permanent damage or lethal.

Sounds like the Sentinels were abolished by the Jedi High Council some time prior to TPM.
By TPM, the Jedi had all but lost their ability to see the future and seem to have fallen back to the security of the temple.
During this time, combat training suffered greatly- as evidenced by the slaughter of many overconfident Jedi in the Geonosis arena as well as the awful tactics used the following battle (charge straight into the robot army's gunfire!).

There is nothing inherently evil about using the force to obturate a foe’s breathing. Rendering ab opponent unconscious by asphyxiation is certainly less destructive than slicing off a limb or impaling them with a plasma blade.

Sentinel is what I gravitate towards. But in Knights of the Old Republic it was a scout/consular that became my build. Sentinels are the hardy kind of build. But Scout is the hardy regular build. Sentinels are wordly jack of all trades but also good at resisting force powers and poison. They're good at Jedi bindu. But they are abit boring as far as KoTOR goes.
