    As for Jedi capable of surviving Order 66; Jedi Shadows because they were already "undercover" and should have had several identities available to them to avoid the Empire. Sentinels would have had the hacking and espionage skills to hide from the Empire. The Inquisitor's rules of finding Jedi would not have applied to the Shadows and the Sentinels, both classes were used to hiding and not breaking cover.

My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my eagerness to fight, they've set me on a path from which there is no escape. I yearned to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down there was no longer any ground beneath my feet. What is my sacrifice? I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else's future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see. And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude." I do believe we are seeing an old wise Sentinel or Shadow in Luthen Rael in Andor. I am leaning towards Shadow as his history and knowledge with artifacts, also his ability to change identities and personalities.

Especially how they are able to blend in with the general public, but more importantly, they weren't blinded like the Jedi Guardians and Consolors. They knew the Sith were still alive and well but didn't know where to find them. By the very nature of their missions it seems to me that Anakin Skywalker would have been able to fulfill the prophecy of the Chosen One of the Force to destroy the Sith if he had been made a Jedi Sentinel.

    My favorite thing about these branches is how they started out as game mechanics in one of the tabletop RPGs. Jedi Guardian was a class that focused on lightsaber combat while Jedi Consular was a class more focused on Force powers. And all the lore about these branches was made up after the fact to justify the two different classes. Jedi Sentinel was added in Knights of the Old Republic to be a mechanical midpoint between these two, with a balance of lightsaber and Force skill, and again additional lore was written to justify its existence. And because the choice between the three was made into a conscious in-character thing in KotOR, they were made into a thing that the Jedi Order acknowledged as real distinctions rather than game mechanical convenience. This is also why a bigger deal about them is made in the Old Republic era and why they're basically ignored in later eras.

  • @Boyd50
    @Boyd50 Před rokem +6

    Why are the sentinels not considered Grey Jedi?
    I would love to hear about how they were able to delve into Darkside techniques without being corrupted.
    I feel like there is a constant double talk within the Star Wars community on this basic subject.
    The most powerful Jedi were all ones who fell or flirted with the darkside in some regard.
    The Je'daii also practiced both sides without fear of absolute corruption the way modern jedi fear.
    There is a balance that George Lucas and the modern face of Disney never seems to want to acknowledge.

    • @Mr-Tibbster
      @Mr-Tibbster Před rokem

      Lucas is the creator of SW, and he says balance doesn't mean light and dark together, as the Darkside is a corruption. He literally invented the Force, so he gets the last say on what it is and how it works, lol. SW is not an existing universe that GL "answers" to, he "defines" it. A lot of the books, comics and some games screwed up GL's original vision on how the Force actually works.
      As for the Sentinels, they didn't really "use" the Darkside, they "studied" it to understand it and then fight it, there is a difference.
      The reason the most powerful Jedi flirt with the Darkside is a consequence of the Darkside being the quick and easy path to power. All of the powers of the Darkside can be performed with the lightside, but it takes far more training and time to accomplish such power. The temptation of the dark, is less about the abilities themselves, but the "ease of attaining them" and how easy it is to become super charged in your ability to perform them without effort or discipline - but at the cost of one's soul.

    • @jackmanleblanc2518
      @jackmanleblanc2518 Před rokem +1

      They don't use the dark side of the force. That's why sentinels aren't grey jedi, because grey jedi is a fanon idea of a character who uses both the light side and the dark side.
      Of course the most powerful jedi were those who used or flirted with the dark side. That's the point. The dark side is a path to far greater power, but it corrupts the user in a very fundamental way. There's no POINT to a normal jedi in gaining great power if they lose themselves in the process. If the dark side didn't provide great power then there would be no struggle. No reason for a jedi to be tempted to use its dark power. Mr Tibbster definitely has the right idea here. Even the jedi have their own version of the most powerful dark side ability, Sith Lightning, but it requires great training to do.

      @jsbcody Před rokem +14

      Because Mace could never think outside the box (really shows up in episode 3 of Tales of the Jedi, he wanted to follow the letter of their orders from the Jedi Council). Mace needed the dogma of the Jedi Council and Jedi Code to keep himself from falling to the Dark Side. And as far as Forms go, the 7 listed are usually those taught to most Jedi and Sith, but I imagine that Sentinels and especially Shadows would have "hidden" forms and techniques. Sentinels would need an extra edge when going against a rogue Dark Jedi. Shadows would definitely have secret forms and techniques known only to them so they could effectively fight Sith and Dark Side users. Remember in almost every fight involving a Sith, Jedi Guardians and Consulars would go as a group to confront the Sith (Mace and 3 other Masters vs Sidious, Anakin and Obi Wan vs Dooku-twice, Qui Gon and Obi Wan vs Maul, and many others in the Clone War series).

      However, she also separated herself from the Jedi Order, so does not really fit into any of the Jedi classifications. Many classify her as a Gray Jedi, using the definition of a jedi that has separated themselves from the Jedi Council and not an individual that uses both light and dark side force abilities.

    I dunno, the only issue I have with the Jedi Sentinels is that we have little info on them. And no, its not a matter of "oh, that's the point, they're hidden". Like, seriously, we don't have any lore on Jedi Sentinels around rebelling against the Empire in any form, and we don't see any participation in the Galactic Civil War or the rise of the New Republic.

      I think Sentinels in general wouldn't be as close to the dogmatic ideals of the council and the order as the rest. They live out in the world and see the day-to-day life, understanding the world much better.

  • @cask82
    @cask82 Před rokem +1

    Ok, hear me out. As much hubris as the Jedi had, the more and more I learn about them and all the classes they held, there should have been no way that Palpatine could have wiped out the Jedi order. Any branch outside the main Jedi order should have been enough to restore the order within one galactic cycle, that or Luke should have been able to run into more rouge Jediis during legends and canon timelines.

That said, i never started reading any of the books because I never knew where to start. Can someone please point me in the direction of which book to start with to really delve into that universe so I can get better acquainted with the lore? Please and thank you.

      Start with the Legends book 'Heir to the Empire' by Timothy Zahn. It's the first time Thrawn appears and it's just a few years after the Battle of Endor and then read the rest of the Legends books. You can find a time line on Wookiepedia .
      But I warn you. You will be asking yourself why Disney stupidly didn't use any of the Legends material.

    Many fifteenth series could be produced by Disney if they pay attention to your vids.. well, read into other things than just expanding on already known characters and such. Probably enough to be the majority of content offered on their pay for Disney ➕ Channel app. I just hope if they do that they won't rush the series and try wrapping it up leaving out so much detail... like they usually have done so far.

    This might be a stupid question, but could the Jedi sentinels have known order 66 was coming before the Jedi council? I know sentinels weren’t super into dark side studies, but because they were open to studying some aspects of the dark side could even a few sentinels have foreseen what was coming due to their foresight not being as clouded compared to the council?
