I have a theory. every time the force is out of balance, the force chooses an avatar to bring it back into balance. if it truly is out of balance and heading towards destruction, it creates a child to stop the cataclysm. it would explain some of these Grandmasters and others like Luke
I also share this theory. Makes a lot of sense.
Dont you mean Anakin? Luke is a product of Anakin, also meant for greatness but not directly made by the force, more by circumstance and heritage
Also don't think it truly 'creates' a child, perhaps more so influences them (incl development)

Yeah, pretty much. Nice to see a character like Satele, really. She is balanced, she is wise, and stylish. I liked to see how she was connected with her Master, full respect between she and him.
My favorite? After hearing this I think Nomi Sunrider and Satele Shan.
Old Republic Jedi GrandMasters were on point & I'm a big fan of Satile Shan due to her not being a Coward like Yoda was when the TIME REALLY COUNTED TO STAND UP FOR THE ORDER WHEN THE GOING GOT TOUGH FOR THEM 👏🏾.

Satele is my go to master since I loved Revan from the game. It's a what if Revan became the grandmaster to the order.
Satele Shan is my favorite Star Wars character a bit ahead of Anakin / Darth Vader.
I would like to see a trilogy of movies focused on Satele Shan. Or only a single movie would be enough, depending on the writting.

Hearing all these stories of 1000's of years before battle of yavin. 1000's of years before the original trilogy why haven't disney pursued a live action saga set in the old republic days. Like I would basically make it about jedi padawans at the temple learning stuff. Basically Harry potter with a star wars skin. They could have dark jedi too make them their rivals. This should write itself.

Is not enough focus on the spirituality behind the Jedi order.
When Lucas first created the Jedi. He borrowed a lot from Eastern philosophies.
As a long time enthusiast of Eastern philosophical practices, having been raised in a spiritual practice deeply influenced by the importance of internal spirituality.
The Jedi, when you listen to their teachings. Example: when Yoda explained to Anakin the path to the darkside through fear - anger - hate - suffering...
Those words are found in many of the more puristic traditions like Zen and Taoism (out here in the United States Dudeism is basically western Americanized Taoism)...
Those "purist type" traditions focus heavily on achievement of the ability to remain untouched or unphased by the world around or by personal attachments to wants, needs, desires, fears, feelings, etc.
Lucas admitted he borrowed mainly from Samurai tradition... Which were far less internally puristic.
But, the political controlled Jedi TBH. Were a disappointment.

Satele Shan Is my Favorite Grandmaster And Ahsoka Tano would be my Favorite master if she ever made it too such a rank.
The only problem I have. Is I can't have them both at the same time period. Unless something were to happen within the Force. That would make it so.
I knew of Nomi Sunrider because I once looked into the Force Light ability but after hearing all that I would certainly like a more detailed holocron on her. I'd also like to know more about Awdrysta Pina but a relevation from the Force might be telling me that the holo-data on him is scarce.
Did they ever mention the tragedy of lord cussing the stubborn?? He was a great wise Jedi that lived roughly 2,000 bby. He would humble his sith opponent with yo mama jokes and light saber and pummel them into death/submission. Wise was he , but he met his fate by the cussing of Darth flatulence.. Twas a sad day.

Legends Grandmaster Luke is the GOAT. Seamlessly melded the philosophies of Satele Shan and Yoda into a balanced mix alongside his own personal beliefs that made his Jedi Order the most successful one.
What happens in the time between one GM stepping down and the next stepping up?
Usually Grandmasters succeed one another immediately. I believe the selection process is usually the current Gm conferring with the entire Jedi council and voting on a successor together before they step down.

Also there's usually a Deputy Grand Master floating around the council chambers. During Yoda's last years as GM Mace Windu held that position.

Sunrider, Shan, Yoda, Skywalker are certainly the highlights here. Shame the last two weren't given a proper rundown in this video and basically skipped over.
With all due respect, Yoda lost the Jedi Order from a Sith Lord working with him almost daily. The age of Yoda one would think that would give him an edge but apparently not.

I'm just curious if you could possibly say which grandmasters are cannon and which are legend next list. Im just curious because I've heard of a few of these grandmasters before but just realized because I don't invest in cannon star wars anymore (last trilogy left a bad taste in my mouth) I am not sure which are which. I guess i could just assume the ones i know of are legacy and the ones i dont are cannon.

It would of been better if "Rey" was the direct descendant of Nomie Sunrider. Would of gave the character so much depth and explain better why she was so force sensitive and could easily master skills and techniques. Or some how a reincarnation of the great GrandMaster 😊

I still wonder if Odan Urr should be considered Grandmaster too, since he was a grand scholar and presided over the big jedi meeting during exar kuns attack on Ossus. Furthermore Nomi Sunrider didn't achieve the feat of imprisoning Exar Kun alone, but with the help of several jedi onboard their ships over Yavin 4. Don't remember if she managed to cut Ulic off the force alone. Anyway one of the greatest StarWars Stories ever written ❤
She cut off Ulic alone, yes. And Exar Kun was basically blasted by several thousand Jedi in order to get rid of him. When you absolutely, positively have to murk a Sith Lord with the Light Side, accept no substitutes.
Vergere was able to cut Jacen Solo away from the force. And he later did it to Ben Skywalker.

If only they'd have gone THIS direction, rather than The Acolyte... The entire Arc of The Freedon Nadd, and later Exar Kun stories would have been Beyond awesome. Moreover, Nomi Sunrider in terms of sheer Force-power..? Would have utterly FLATTENED either the entire TPM-Era Jedi Council (probably single-handed) or turned Palpatine to Paste! Unlike Windu & Co. She came from a time when The Jedi actually KNEW how to fight! 🤘🏻

4 CO Grandmasters.... did each run a separate wing of the movie an shows seen Jedi Order?? Least at the start of the 8 hundred an some odd years Yoda said he was just before he died in the films?? An that elimination process was due to the various conflicts, natural causes an old age?? Would make sense, otherwise, 4 is quite excessive...
This was supposed to be grand masters from both cannon And legends, yet you left out 2 grand masters from Darth Bane's time, didn't mention that Mace Windu was the grandmaster for about 3 years before the clone wars broke out and gave the title back to Yoda after the start of the war, and you should have gone more into Hammer and Saba as you did everyone else

No, he was elected grandmaster about 3 years before the start of the Clone Wars, but after the first battle Geinoses he gave the title of grandmaster back to Yoda because he felt that his role was on the battle field, not on a seat

That's where Disney killed everything because we will never see Grandmaster Luke.
Because Grandmaster Luke never made sense in the first place? We saw in the original trilogy how Luke recognized that the old Jedi way as taught by Yoda was wrong, that it would not have redeemed Anakin. We saw further in the prequel trilogy how the old Jedi way was responsible for Anakin's fall in the first place. Why would Luke recreate the old, flawed Jedi Order? Just to be clear, the sequel trilogy still fails here, because Luke still creates his own new order and it ends in disaster. But old Luke from TLJ is a perfectly logical evolution of his character. Why would he not become disillusioned with the teachings of Jedi and Sith alike when his triumph in ROTJ came from ignoring both of them?
