    From what I saw it’s totally possible for the round to be feed in backwards during the heat of battle! What would happen then? Does the system recognize the mistake? Or will the rotating breech correct it?

    • @alanmoore2197
      @alanmoore2197 Před 25 dny

      For a good muzzle seal pretty sure the breech could only rotate 90 degrees. The solution must therefore be a distinction in the rounds - if you look - orientation can be detected by the ends - so assume the loader will reject incorrect input to the rotating magazine. The idea is also that the magazine should be fully loaded before the heat of battle with a variety of munitions that may be needed - so presumably the magazine also detects what kinds of rounds are where too.

    They have a round that can shoot at drones, but do they have the targeting system to acquire and accurately fire upon them?

    • @victor6814
      @victor6814 Před měsícem +3

      Good question. Actually there is acoustic detectors in service on the french army. They are on griffon and jaguar ( wich use the 40mm ). And on the famous leclerc evolution... but on this last one there is also a 360° air detection radars ( there is also an aps radar nest but they are not the same). This antidrone radars are very small and can fit on every turett. I’ve seen even a small 4x4 vehicle fitted with this radars ( on the roof, not on the turret ).

      FYI units do not deploy on their own, there are other assets that accompany/support ground forces. Jaguar is part of Scorpion network program which links all French army units ie a ground radar system, satelite, AWACS or recon drone etc... detects and transmits info in real time to Jaguar.
      As for targeting, the Jaguar has laser, optical and IR sensors to engage any target within its reach.

      The Rapidfire AA turret using the CTAI cannon has its own acquisition system (the French Navy already use it on its logistics ships, so they are able integrate it on the vehicles

    That gun looks complicated. Mote to go wrong in a combat scenario. Looks like a high maintenance piece as well. But as always, we shall see how it performs in the real world.

      Don't see why it's more complicated than regular chain gun or recoil operated gun, the system seems a lot simpler to me, although it is unproven.

      there is nothing complicated here... the improvement is in the ammunition.

      Concernant l'obus anti-drones et anti-aérien dont on parle depuis des années sans qu'ils aboutissent, on voudrait savoir s'ils sont enfin parvenu à réaliser une fusée de proximité. Je crains que non, car il en aurait parlé..Sur le fond, ce 40mm perfore un peu moins que le célèbre 40mm Bofors L70. En rôle AA, le CTA est à max 200 c/minutes, le suédois étant à 300 cp/min. Le canon et les obus sont réputés très chers et non standard otan, ce dont ne voit l'utilité que quand on a besoin d'aide...Enfin sa portée pratique ne serait que de 1500m en anti-blindés. Et 3500 mm en AA. Mais il est là et on doit espérer qu'il fera bien les jobs attendus de lui. P.R.

    • @lordtemplar9274
      @lordtemplar9274 Před měsícem +1

      why complicated and unproven? pretty sure the P90 submachine gun is proven to work, the CTA 40 uses a similar feeding mechanism.
      As for the ammo they have donne extensive testing and are quite happy with the results, that is why the French Navy has also decided to use it for CIWS on its new ships

  • @sla1655

    There’s something I don’t understand, the system feeds shells across and not along the gun, how do they get into the breech, didn’t anyone pay attention?And the very principle of packing everything into a cartridge case is completely stupid, it’s easier to make normal projectiles and take a suitable cartridge case where you can compact more gunpowder, otherwise you won’t get the normal initial velocity of the projectile!

    • @alanmoore2197
      @alanmoore2197 Před 26 dny

      The rotating breech was clearly shown, secondary advantages of this are the shells eject one way and the load happens concurrently from the opposite side speeding reload, also eject/reload appears to be possible at any barrel elevation with no compromise. The cannon is much smaller (hull intrusion) and the smaller shells allow a much larger volume & variety of ammunition to be stored & quickly fired. Perhaps there is a lower charge?, but with a range of advanced projectiles and many more of them (volume & rate) it may be a much better trade-off.

    • @sla1655
      @sla1655 Před 25 dny

      @@alanmoore2197 I didn’t see any rotating shutter in the video, I just saw bullshit.I only see the point in making another, more durable barrel with a length of 75 calibers, which is exactly 3000mm.And take the cartridge case from larger artillery, from 76mm or more, and make new types of shells for all this.This is where I see the point.
