This totally beats my idea of a claymore mine in the shape of a frisby.
ah a boom erang then
hehe in the hands of a professional discus thrower that would be impressive. :)
Airbursting discus..
The Fris Boom!
@Chris Landry
An explosibe device that can be thrown and it gets back to you.
A *BOOM* erang
There was a concept back in the 80s for a mine that would pop up into the air, aim itself and fire a HEAT type molten metal jet through the top armor of Soviet tanks. Looked kind of like a frisbee IIRC. Don't know if any were actually built...
My favorite part is how this guy looks like the nicest and calmest person on the planet, while telling you how his air burst ammo will turn you into groundmeat and make limbs go flying.
As a Norwegian myself, it's kind of scary seeing such a calm man talking bout deadly force in a dry and analytic way. He may just as well have been discussing the menu at a mid tier restaurant..
Did my best🍺
I would love to have his job.
I love how they say "take out targets", when it literally means killing men. This type of sanitized speech allows weapons manufactures to separate the business of killing people with innocuous sounding words like "targets" and phrases like "taken out". "Taking out a target", means shredding human flesh with red hot steel fragments. After a nice "take out", what's left of the man/woman/child is scooped up with shovels and thrown into garbage bins.

I recall during a firefight in 69 receiving fire support from an old Chaffee tank chassis fitted out with an outdated 40mm twin Bofors AA ship mount.
I think it was affectionately known as a 'Duster'.
Extremely effective and impressed by the continual stream of fused AA airburst ammo. That was 1969.
Swedish IFV CV9040 still uses the Bofors 40mm, slightly longer barrel than the WW2 version.

hard to improve on such an excellent, proven design. When ship's air defence systems moved to missiles, it wasn't obsoleted, just repurposed with new roles and more modern ammo.

It'll make an unholy mess of people.
There’s a lot of advantages to this round but the fuse setter allows it to be added onto the cannon itself without modifications to the weapon! The Airburst is awesome!
Airburst is awsome but it depends on wich end of the gun barrel you are standing...
Very smart the fuse-setter can be places next to the standard 40mm cannon, without changing it.
Wait. So this can turn every average Mk19 into an XM25 on Steroids, without the entire cost and different production line of the XM25?
That sounds Fantastic!

I never knew a 40mm could even penetrate targets such as these, I thought it was more of a way of peppering the enemy with shrapnel rather then penetrating steel, but here you go.
Terrifying stuff, and amazing at the same time
older 40mm was usual HE or frag, but these have a shaped charge to achieve that level of penetration.
Depends on the rounds.
Shaped charges are scary stuff.
Normally your average 40mm grenade shell is gonna be pure HE. These ones are just insane. Penetrating at least 65mm of RHA is no joke for a tiny little round like that, on top of the fact that it spray shrapnel in all directions as any other HE grenade would. This would be incredibly lethal against lightly armored targets like IFVs and armored cars.
The guy even said chunks of the concrete wall flew 15m backwards. That’s a scary amount of power.
40MM HEDP - look it up
When are these available on amazon prime?
As early as 2021 I heard if you have a Prime account.

Nice work. Hell of a weapons system. Interesting to see that it programs after the shot, vs. the OIWS's method of programming the round in the breach.
By using 'after launch' programming it means the weapon used to fire the grenade doesn't matter. You can fit it to anything. Same tech could also be used on larger calibers.
@@norwegiangadgetman But i'm not sure about the possibility to program rounds with an automatic fire, as several rounds can be in the reach of antenna at the same time. And they have only shown single shots during this demo, which also can confirm this poing

@@582km Of course this is more advanced but the allies had air burst in ww2.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting.
FYI, this isn't the type of 40mm ammo you fire off from an under barrel launcher, this is a much longer, heavier 40mm with a lot more room for explosive filler and advanced fusing, as well as enough propellant to throw it 4x faster, too, the us employs the same high velocity 40mm in the mk19
I'm fortunate my dad is in the weapon industry.
This ammunition is amazing and really practical.

I love this ammunition. Keep up the amazing work and I love watching this video
I don't know if anyone from Nammo actually reads this, but you should look at developing a similar airburst round in 30 x 113mm for the M230 chain gun. This gun is seeing increasing use, especially with similar RWS mounts, and is being pitched for use on all sorts of smaller vehicles (think JLTV.) AFAIK there is no airburst munition for it. There is an opportunity here.
They tried it with 20mm already and iirc it really sucked

Radio frequency detonation has been a technology for decades, VT delay fused shells were used in the Pacific theater to down Japanese aircraft at a higher rate than conventional shells. Nice to see it being applied to 40mm grenades, thanks to miniaturization of components.
That’s not what this is. This is not radar proximity fused.
This round is timer fused. The only innovation is that the timer is set by short range radio when the round leaves the barrel. The timing information is derived from the laser range finder on the optics mount.
I would look forward to going to work every day doing this.
Thanks! Very powerful & versatile, yet short range, heavy & very vulnerable.

Reminds me when I was a snake driver and used thumper configuration on front turret. 40mm grenade launcher would go thump thump thump. To turn people into monkey meat, flechette rockets did the trick with much wider dispersal area. When nails enter a human body, they bounce of bone and shred meat. War has blessed us with so many wonderful things.
An excellent improvement to the 40mm grenade, who's main benefit was already against targets in defilade or behind light cover like a brick wall. The addition of a HEAP warhead is fantastic as well, making it now useful against moderately armored targets and heavy cover like reinforced concrete walls.
