To quote Twenty One Pilots: "Wish we could turn back time… to the good old days" 😁👍
    Great video as usual mate.
I havent gone into detailed settings with my N64 emulation but I do like to have them set as 4x3 aspect with bezels, and for advanced system setting Ive set the default core to Mupen64Plus-Next.
I havent checked every single game and set diff cores for each that may need them.. Yet.
So for 4x3 res setting Im using 960x720.
I can go higher but cause I like to use the zfast shader if I raise the resolution more the scanline effect looks worse and thickens the bars.
Rest settings Ive just left on auto for the moment, as I said its one system I havent experimented with other settings yet.

So many outstanding, best-in-class games. It's incredible what developers were able to create given the console's hardware limitations. PlayStation had all the RPGs of the generation and some really good platformers, but for me it couldn't touch the consistently high-quality library of the N64. I still consider GoldenEye's spiritual successor Perfect Dark the greatest FPS ever released, and LoZ Majora's Mask is probably my favorite game of all time.

10:00 To quote the wiki page: "3point is accurate to the unique 3-point bilinear filtering the N64 employs as a cost-saving measure, however this introduces some distortion to the resulting textures. standard uses a traditional 4-point bilinear filter for more accurate textures. Negligible performance cost." So if you want the best looking textures, you should use standard.
For 15:14, you would choose bilinear.

Some of the n64 games don't run well (laggy game play, graphics look distorted when certain screens are loading, audio is off from the picture, etc.) Any tips on changing the setting to lower the graphics quality in exchange for better performance? Or maybe my laptop is just too old to play these games

    • @fonzitheman
      @fonzitheman Před 2 lety

If you are using Mupen64PlusNext or Parellel N64 core try the lower the redering res for a start, obviously try the lowest 320x240.
If that runs good try the next one at 640x480 and so on.
All the other graphic settings like texture filtering and those below it are prob to auto so should be good but you can always turn them off to test and see if that makes a difference
So a trial and error I guess for those.
Also try using no shader as this will also use cpu power, if you dont mind an image with no shader at all that is.
For the video mode settings my recommendation is set that to whatever your display is, so if its 1080P try 1080 max.
After that if you rendering res ended up being 640x480 or lower, try setting the video mode to 640x480 max so matched the rendering res.
However the image will appear bloated cause you are pushing less pixels, at least from my understanding.
