    I was pulling my hair out watching so many Drumbrute tutorials, none of them explained how to just save patterns and songs etc.! Drove me crazy. Thank you so much.

    I've checked the latest manual and they have fixed this information thankfully, but it's always good to see it visually anyway.

    The DrumBrute is a very versatile unit that does more than what it appears. I considered buying another machine (Roland TR-09, Behringer 808) to add more sequencing options, but the DrumBrute is capable of doing what I need. It's biggest weakness is the manual. I got more out of this video than the book and the video has reinvigorated my interested in the machine.

    Synthlab, You just earned my subscription!
    I have had my DrumBrute for a couple of years now.
    I wish that I had found your channel long before now.
    I recently purchased a DrumBrute Impact to double the fun, and found it had no presets...
    So I created 5 or 6 patterns,and had issues saving them. Maybe due to that “Lost in Translation “ directions.
    I did find the proper save method through another channel, by pressing (save and pattern) .
    You have become my DrumBrute Go To from now on.
    You are very clear and precise with instructions.
    Arturia should hire you for their tutorials!
    Thanks again for time and effort.

    This is why I don't read the manual! I was a little confused by saving/loading patterns, so I thought, "Hey, maybe I'll just read the manual for once," and I thought I was losing my mind because the words seem to be very straightforward but none of it actually worked and it made me feel crazy so I just went back to figuring it out by poking buttons till it did what I wanted. :)

    I have yet to actually try making a song, but it was super frikkin' helpful to see how you were able to string patterns together. I will say this, Aturia customer support have been *awesome* helping me figure out how to properly input this into me DAW and solve other issues (mainly because I have no idea what I'm doing).

    NI had me send a video for a faulty 2nd screen that died(a lot of people had this problem) on my Maschine MK2. Its not that unusual or much of a hassle. NI and Arturia may have some faulty gear they cannot control once they have the manufacturer in another country do production for them. Much respect to NI and Arturia for putting out some of the best electronic music gear, even when there are these kind of issues.

    • @synthlab3189
      @synthlab3189  Před 7 lety

      Nope - no automation recording and no ability to keep the settings. That's where the analog element of the Drumbrute comes in...it's very much like an analog synth in that way. Whenever you change the knob settings, the pattern will sound a bit different.

    So, probably a stupid question, but I'm fairly new to drum machine programming, so here goes: I just bought a used drum brute off Ebay. I was under the impression that you could write patterns and then chain different patterns to create a song. You then record your song and save it on a bank, right? But if you changed the settings for another song, would you then return to a previous "song" only to find the sounds are now different? My question is- I need songs that are saved so I can play live. Is this the right machine for me?

    • @VestiteATX
      @VestiteATX Před 4 lety +2

      By change the settings, do you mean change the knobs like tone, impact, pitch, level, etc? Regardless of what pattern is playing, the sound that comes out of your machine will reflect what is shown on the knobs. My recommendation would be to find a basic “norm” setting for your drums that you can quickly adjust in a few small ways to match your different tracks. Once you learn what that norm setting looks and sounds like like, it shouldn’t be to hard to get yourself back there in a performance and then to your next setting

    • @Gegatso
      @Gegatso Před 4 lety

      @@baudelaire6647 The longest you can make a song is 16 patterns. if you use 64 step patterns, you can think of that as 4 measures in 4/4 time for each pattern. The problem is you can only chain 16 of them together, so you can only make a 64 measure song at the longest. No way around it other than to do a live performance take. Totally useless if you want it to save a whole song to put on a recording or play live as a drummer. Really sad since it can do so much more in all the other ways.

    • @Gegatso
      @Gegatso Před 4 lety +2

      @@baudelaire6647 If your songs are extremely short, you are fine. It does not matter if they are simple or complex, because it is the length of what you can put into a song that it terrible. 64 measures in 4/4 time at 120 bpm won't even give you a 90 second song. Mine is a hard pass. I can't work with it. Going to go with an Akai MPC One. 999 pattern limit per song, plus those can all be different, PLUS, you can repeat patterns. You could create a drum part that goes for hours quickly and easily. More sounds, the ability to add samples of your own, can work as a stand alone workstation. It is a no- brainer for me. I just had a brain blip when I did not see that the song memory on this device was so tiny. Not even close to being acceptable. My songs range from simple to very complex..plus, I like the idea of having unlimited drum sounds and the ability to have many different kits. This would be great if I just wanted to do live drum stuff only and change the beat up as time went on, but for making songs, it is pretty much impossible unless you want to use your computer as a midi controller...that's the last thing I want. I want to be able to take the device wherever I am and work on the parts and get the songs arranged.

    I'm still wondering why song mode didn't have 64 patterns. It would not use much memory. It would be pain to input but still it would be awesome. Then i could get enough songs for playing with band and use the machine for developing songs when i want. I play bass as well so now i have to switch patterns with midi footswich and its just a chore to do. I have impact model and it has the same issue.

      yea i hoped it would do that as the song mode only goes up to 16 patterns which is not really enough for a full song, so i've found myself changing it half way through by hand .so in a nutshell you need two songs for a four five minute track.i would rather have had 8 songs with double the song mem.

      @@beatnikcafe that's a good question and frankly I cant remember. i think I just changed it when it got close but if I were you I would opt for behringers 808 clone or seek out a cylone tt78 or tt606 or even rolands boutique 808 they all have proper song modes. tbh I think arturia calling this a song mode was a stretch really its more of a glorified chain mode.

    So basically the Drumbrute is absolutely worthless in song mode. It would seem you can only create a song thats maybe 1 or 2 minutes long unless the song arrrangement just repeats itself over and over whoch makes it complete GARBAGE for any genre other than hip hop, rap or techno. The Korg EMX-1 hasnt been made in nearly a decade and its still the worlds best drum machine/work station/sequencer. Way to completely fuck up, Arturia.

    • @contaminated666
      @contaminated666 Před 5 lety +1

      I thought so too but it turns out it is still memorizing your pattern even after the light stops blinking red when you touch it to put a pattern in your sequence. But I think the key is to use 32, 48, or 64 long patterns and use the 16 for transition parts or fills. A lot harder then copy and paste in pro-tools.

      I just got one and did not know that the limit on a song was 64 measures in 4/4 time. That makes for some very short songs. I can't even think of that as a song. I guess it is fine if you are doing a 30 second commercial jingle, but worthless for a song that has any length to it.
