  • Sounddesign for Yahshua // Paul Ruben presents:
    How I managed to shape the sound of the Arturia Drumbrute to a point where it actually sounds awesome!
    01:45 - Drumbrute with MF-DRIVE & Delay
    05:55 - Setting up the AKAI LPD-8 & Ableton Effects
    07:11 - Drumbrute with Ableton Effects
    08:44 - The Kick (Bazzism VST)
    10:55 - Drumbrute thru Vox AC4 guitar amp
    Level 1: How I am using guitar effect pedals
    (such as the MOOG MF-Drive, T-REX Chorus/Flanger and the Mooer REECHO) to shape / destroy the original sound-signal.
    Level 2: Using Ableton and the LPD-8 to add even more timbre with effects like "Vocoder Noisedrum" or simply using the Auto-Filter.
    Level 3: "Replacing" the original Drumbrute Kickdrum with the VST called "Bazzism" for fat kicks.
    Outro: Using the Drumbrute with the Vox Ac4 Guitar Amp

    The thing I like about my Drumbrute is that it encourages me to be creative. The rather pedestrian sounds are not it's a weakness but actually, a strength. You explore new ideas to make the sounds more interesting. You don't end up in the ruts left by 808s and 909s from long ago. NEW HORIZONS my fellow Brutes!

      any drum machines can be added with fx and thus encourage you to be creative. So I don't know why it is a strength for drumbrute.

      I'm in the market for a new drum machine, but I can't decide whether to get one of these cheap analog drum machines or get a much more versatile digital one instead. Can the arturia drumbrute be fully automated with midi? Does it have motion sequencing? If it can't do those things then i can't be bothered, i'd rather go digital and get a sampler then. And I don't think it can do those things, I think virtually the only analog drummachine on the market today that can be fully automated is the somewhat more pricier Elektron Analog Rythm MkII. I just don't see the benefits to buying an analog drummachine if I can't do any automation with the instrument, cause i'm going to record it digitally anyways so without automation every drumsound is eventually going to end up as just another generic 1-sound sample, and then I might as well just have gotten a sampler used samples for beatmaking to begin with. A digital drummachine with sampling capabilities will be a lot more versatile after all.

    Great video. The Drumbrute is still underrated for what it can do and it's true capabilities. I use individual outputs and then put VST effects on individual sounds to create a unique sound and enhance the sounds. For me the Drumbrute sounds better than a lot of more expensive drum machines stock sounds when it is enhanced in this way. It's also isn't a direct replica of old drum machine sounds that I could just use samples to create with if I wanted that. Keep up the great work.

    • @RoomAtTheTopStudio
      @RoomAtTheTopStudio Před 3 lety +1

      @@hernanschulmaister581 The individual outs is from the audio outputs, not USB. The USB is used to sync the Drumbrute to Ableton or whatever DAW that you are using. You need a mixer with at least 16 channels to use all 12 outputs and also your synths and other audio.

    I came by my drumbrute used on the cheap, and I had the same reaction as was mentioned at the end of the video: the sounds were just... sad, almost half-baked. I honestly thought it was broken.
    Now, because of the outputs, it's my go-to for rhythm. The interface is just too good. I wish I could load my own samples. Still, if you are persistent, any sound can be changed into something completely different. Paired & sync'd with a microfreak where I routinely abuse the vocoder to acidify other instruments... I'm years into this stuff and still have not run out of new combinations to explore.
    I really like this video where the modifications make sense and are desirable. I'll be trying out some of this myself, but using a Zoom MS-70CDR with the large number of configurable effects to see if I can somewhat duplicate this.

    Are you connecting the mixout from the drumbrute thru the pedals in to your audiointerface like a chain? Drumbrute->pedals->audiointerface->ableton.

    As an owner: kick 2, snare, clap and rim are very good. Toms are fine, but most of my beats are kick, snare, hat. Unfortunately the high hats are utter garbage 🗑️. Thats a big problem for me. The nail in the coffin for me is the limited midi, specifically no velocity.

    I got one question! About yourconnection septup, between drumbrute and ableton. You are using your RME, but are you using only one input? (seems to be ext 9 on ur vid). Because drum brute has seprated individual outpout for drums/kicks ect, would be not better to add effects on seprated channel of each drums/kick ech. Perhaps i'm wrong and you are already doing this, but seems that you are duplicating 3 times the same mixer drumbrute outpoot. I'm considering to choose your solution or working witrh seperated channels, why are u choosing to work like this?

  • @geko5449
    @geko5449 Před 3 lety

    Can you only connect the drumbrute to ableton through MIDI/usb? Or is it possible to send the audio through an interface?
    I tried setting mine up through a Komplete Audio 6 but it didn't seem like there was any incoming audio :s

    • @paulruben-sounddesign3748
      @paulruben-sounddesign3748  Před 3 lety

      sound only goes via the Jack into the Interface.
      Via Midi you only get the Midi Signal (which does not has any audio-information)
