B52's slayed them.
Some nice Bass, an sculpin. Noticed that double on one hook
"Lets take you to the galley to show you how to cook up some of this sculping... Today in the galley we are at a sushi restaurant and we will be making blue cheese tuna" 😂 I was super stoked to see a sculpin recipe until I realized I wasn't going to
The B-52 bucktails and a strip of squid are a deadly combo.
We throw sculpin back here in NorCal i didn't know people ate them on my charter boat nobody ever wanted them !
I just caught a huge one last week and I threw it back because I always throw them back. After watching this and another video I’m kind of regretting it.
I live in Sacramento now and really miss long beach fishing..I used to go on a 1/2 day, full day,and night fishing on a old party boat. You would board the boat right at the pier. That boat had the best chili.
Sounds great!
Very cool. Sitting here watching vids learning more about yellowtail and catching fish. Thanks for the vid!
no problem
Getting fancy with the drone footage... :D
Yum! Sculpin tacos!
Very cool footage Dan
Great tips and info
Thanks for the great vibes !!
Shout out to Earl the galley cook! He’s a really good guy out of Long Beach 🤙🏼
I never knew sculpin turned into blue fin tuna when you transported them to a sushi restaurant. 😁
ALL ABOARD THE CITY OF LONG BEACH ARE GREAT !! Aways have a good time on her
🙂👍
Hi, Dan. Not that I miss them, but whatever happened to what was in the 50s &60s impossible to keep off the hook? The White Croaker (tomcod).
They are still around, you can catch all you want inside of the Long Beach harbor.
@@dansportfishing When I was young we sometimes caught nothing but these, while targeting halibut. I hardly ever hear about them, nor see them in the counts. Happy New Year, Dan!
Caught lots of them off Paulo’s Verdes fishing for sand dab recently, about 280 foot of water
@@tugboatftw537 That's good. I never target them, but it is still great to hear that they are still around.
Cool video Dan. I have fished the City of Long Beach boat many times. Fun little boat. Usually pretty crowded. Great local spots though. Give it a try if you haven't fished off the City of Long Beach boat.
I love sculpin fishing. But hate how the short are alway thrashing compared to the largest being more docile. Another great video dan
Actually i see the size of the rockfish down there so i see why they keep sculpin now it makes sense.
Just wondering why 65lbs? Wouldn’t 30lbs good enough to pull most fish up from the bottom? I’m asking because I’ve been pulling up most rocks and flounders with 20-30lbs line with just 5-6 oz sinker... am I doing something wrong?
65lb braid is just a filler. 20-30lb mono topshot is enough for near everything. Personally, I wouldn't pull 65lb braid on a lexa 400 if I'm fishing really deep. I would use 50lb for line capacity. On a Lexa, I use 80lb braid for bass because you don't need that much line, braid is just a filler.
I love my lexa 400 for sculpin! How do you find sculpin on your own boat? What type of bottom am I looking for when targeting sculpin on my own boat?
Rocky bottom
@@Ticker858 Right on, wasn't sure if they were in the rocks, on the edge of rocks next to big boulders.. Thanks.
3:57 "yeah baby" thinking he's got a big fish only to pull out 2 small ones.
Lol hes like the jackpot is mine
Dan have you ever done float tube fishing in the bays?
You should get a 12-14 foot kayak, you could take it out in bays and open ocean. I fish out of Pacific City, Oregon with a kayak.
not me, I like boats
How deep were those sculpin?
Eric Oakley about 300 feet by the oil rigs a few miles out of long beach
we were fishing in 150 feet
