A deck hand recently told me he likes braid to fluro leader. The fluro isn't for visibility but for its superior abrasion resistance over mono. I've personally never had an issue with 40-50lb mono but might get some cheaper fluro this rockfish season to try it out.

You shouldn't to worry much about abrasion while rock fishing, for yellowtail that would be an issue.

Rock fishing is year round in Mexico. The yellowtail have even supposedly been hitting deep iron in Coronado.

I live in Oxnard where can I go and catch bonito and yellowtail? Because the Channel Islands don’t seem to have much.
