Hi Dan,
I was on The Chief a couple of weeks ago. We caught a few yellowfin and quite a few yellowtail. Captain Chris and the crew really work to put you on the fish and it's appreciated. Was your trip from this week or is this from last year? I see in the fish counts that they're starting to get a few early dorado this week. Thanks for your videos.B~
yes this was filmed last summer.
what is the general cost of such a trip might just head south this fall instead of the oregon coast
all the boats have different rates, but here's the cost & info for a trip on 8/8/2016 on the Chief that I'll be hosting, you are welcome to sign up and join us. sport-fishing.com/product/chief-080816/

Loved the video Dan ! Catch your White Sea bass yet this season?
I've landed a few shorts, but not a legal one yet.
i love it when you go rock cod fishing
thanks!
where exactly are they fishing? by Catalina or 7 mile off long beach coast?
no these tuna were 50 miles south of San Diego.
nice! Is this recent? I booked a trip on the Chief with you on August 8th
no last season
Definitely not recent. The fish counts have been trash ever since April. Hoping they pick up for August and September
no this was filmed last fall.
That an accurate reel you using dan? Which one?
one of their Boss series reels
I wrecked it with straight 20lb during tunageddon. Big ol dorado too.

Nice Video, Captain Randel always puts you on the fish.
yes he does!
nice gaff on a keychain dorado...
what is that silver reel your using?
It's a accurate reel
sport-fishing.com oh I've never ever seen you use that reel before you always use you peen gold reels
last season I started using a bunch of different brands.
sport-fishing.com. oh that's funny because I've heard that Sergio told. my uncle from anglers chronicle said you don't catch your own fish they said if you see someone hook one you ask if you could reel it in for your show what a fisherman
You should come on one of my TV filming charters so I can see I catch all my own fish.
man I realy wanted to get my hands on one
just go to my website and come join us this summer.
@danhernandes what rod were you using to catch you tuna and where can I buy it
That was one of my old Dan Hernandez Rods, sorry they don't make them any longer.
so why do people thumb the line?
to keep the fish from pulling all your line off the reel, it's a skill that takes time to learn.
you can free spool the bait to keep the bait lively and "thumb" the line to keep the reel from back lashing when the bait gets a burst of energy and stops suddenly. Other than that, if the fish is running keep your fingers away from the line!!! When you have the fish under wind, you can guide your line with your fingers so it winds level, that takes practice.
no we usually thumb the spool while we are winding in the fish when it's pulling too much drag.
then you have the wrong reel, or didn't prepare by putting fresh drags in. My opinion.
no our reels are fine, using you thumb lets you add just enough pressure that you can keep the fish close, but not enough to pull the hook or break your line.
dude cooking tips are rad, but sashimi on the boat wtf
I know what you mean, but they always freeze the fish first for 3-5 hours before they turn it into sushi.
