EASIEST Fish To Catch At Seal Beach CA! :D

  • In this video, I go do some jetty fishing over in Seal Beach CA! If you're fishing here, one of the easiest fish to catch at Seal Beach are the common stingrays, or what I like to call sea pancakes c: even if you aren't going for them, the population of sea pancakes here are so high that you're bound to catch at least one, or maybe five haha. I ended up catching a bunch of sea pancakes, but eventually did land a nice 11 inch yellowfin croaker c: all you need is some good ole reliable shrimp and you're bound to catch something! Unfortunately, the jetty and adjacent jetties in Seal Beach are littered with a lot of trash, from either people leaving it there or when they get washed up with the waves. Overall, it was a great day of fishing and I still got some good bonus footage for the end of all the random stuff I saw :D

    #firstfishfreedom is a tradition that I started a while back. The basis for this tradition is to release the first fish you catch, regardless of what it is (prized, PB, good eats, maybe even world record someday haha). I will only keep the first fish if it is gravely wounded or gut shotted (and a species I can legally keep). If I keep the first fish, then I will pass on the tradition to the second fish, and so forth. Any day of fishing is a blessing, catching a fish and beating the skunk is another blessing on top of that, so I want to return that blessing and luck back to the fish, so they may live another day, get bigger, and maybe I catch them again in the future c:

    amzn.to/39dNdHF (Okuma Celilo Salmon/ Steelhead 8'6" Medium, a really good solid beginner rod in my opinion, I'd use it for surf fishing and jetty fishing. Good flexibility for casting far and feeling bites and good reach fishing over rocks for me :D)

Clam = Package Type c: This is a good budget reel for beginners, I like the way it handles and it is very comfortable to use. It has great line capacity for 20lb braid so it's a great go-to reel for medium to light setups.

    Sven, my man. Congrats on the promotion, good job! Hey with all of my comments I think I've forgotten to say how much I enjoy your videos. Brings me right back to Oceanside when I was younger. And you are a great guy to virtually fish with. Thanks!!

      Thank you for your kind words Joe, I’m glad you enjoy my videos and that it takes you back to the Oceanside days. I really like fishing in Oceanside a lot actually, the drive can be a tad far sometimes but there’s always good fishing there c: I do want to try to get out there more when I get the chance. Thanks for watching and virtually fishing along side me, you and the other viewers is why I keep doing what I’m doing 👍

      Thanks Doug :D I will try my best to get more fishing done, it'll vary but I'll try to keep the month long waits for upload to a minimum. Maybe every 2 weeks would be optimal but who knows :o

    It's so sad that the Seal Beach area is so bad now. Saw signs on the pier advising not to eat the fish. Dude, has Eagle Claw sponsored you yet? Welcome back Sven! Congrats on making management!

    • @SvenGoesFishing
      @SvenGoesFishing  Před rokem +10

      Yeah I know, Seal Beach just keeps getter trashier and trashier every time I go. In terms of eating fish, Seal Beach is my cut off for whether or not I’ll keep a catch to eat c: anymore North towards Long Beach until Palos Verdes is a no go for me 😂. Unfortunately eagle claw has yet to sponsor me and I’m not asking anymore in my videos, keeps the videos more clean (in my honest onion) and I just like to make videos for fun. I’ll patiently wait for a sponsor to come along, but until then ima just keep fishing and having fun c: also thanks Captain Geo! Being a manager is a lot of hard work but it’s pretty fun and I’m always doing something. I’m slightly sad it cuts into my fishing time but what can one Sven do? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      It’s just certain species that they tell you not to eat. Yellowfin Croaker and Round Stingrays are edible, even if they are caught from Long Beach.

    • @SvenGoesFishing
      @SvenGoesFishing  Před rokem +9

      Exactly, as long as the species isn’t on the do not eat list, you’re good to go c: I would still suggest eating them in moderation so the toxins don’t stack up. One fish for sure that’s always been a do not eat ever since I was a kid was the White Croaker, they’re good eats anywhere besides SoCal but that was the first fish I ever learned to not keep and eat 😂

      Not 100% sure it’s been awhile, I’d like to guess maybe 2 or 3 oz disc sinkers for the sand, it’ll help the bait stay put c: when it’s rocky areas or rly snaggy jetties, torpedos are your best bet! Also I am no longer working there 😂 I have moved on to greener pastures ;) it eats up a lot of my free time but I am 100% wayyy happier with my current job c:

      Glad you enjoy the vidya John :D! The general rule of thumb of best time to fish is between 2 hrs before peak high tide through 2 hrs after c: this is mainly because a lot of fish find more food that might be on the sand or not in the splash zone, inaccessible to them until the tide rises and washes it down into the water. Another good time to fish is the first few hours around sunrise, some species go a bit more dormant at night and start doing their thing again once the sun comes up, the same can be said on the opposite side for fishing around sunset. Personally, I would say the best time to go fishing is whenever you have time to get out there to fish :D! My schedule is quite hectic so I honestly don’t look at the tides anymore, whenever I have a window of opportunity to get out to the water I just take it as it is, even if the tides are not in my favor ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ With that said, I will say that some of the nicest unexpected fish I’ve caught have been just as the sun is about to set ᐠ( ᐛ )ᐟ Squib is also a great bait to have as another general purpose beginner bait if you don’t have shrimp, and it’s usually pretty sturdy so you won’t need the bait thread, but if you happen to have both, a high low rig with 2 size 6 hooks combo-ed will catch you a lot of species overall. Let minnow if you have any further fishing related questions, always happy to help c:

Bad that I don’t have a lot of time to power edit back to back anymore D: but that’s okay, I take my time and slowly edit while I can c: Releases might take longer but I want to make sure I preserve quality without compromising the story that is my fishing shenanigans 😂 thanks for watching and thanks for understanding my hectic schedule lolol. I think ima start releasing shorts in between long video uploads of stuff happening in upcoming videos :o maybe a great way to give everyone sneak previews before the main story is done c:

      Awesome :D Seal Beach is very fun place for sea pancakes, there’s so many of them. I suggest checking out Seal Beach Pier since you’re visiting, California public piers do not require fishing licenses so you won’t have to worry about that. I always recommend shrimp for bait because it’ll catch a lot of species we have in our waters. Check out an Asian supermarket in the area (99 ranch, H mart, etc.) and pick up half a pound of head on shell on shrimp and it’ll last you the whole fishing session c: I normally like to use size 6 but hook size is up to you c: be careful when handling sea pancakes because they have that owwie stinger D: you can get some fishing forceps from Walmart c:

    • @antwanjones679
      @antwanjones679 Před rokem +2

      @Sven Goes Fishing thanks alot for that information.

    • @SvenGoesFishing
      @SvenGoesFishing  Před rokem +3

      Np c: let minnow if you have any fishing related questions and I’ll help out as much as I can :D the longer jetty of 2 that protect a waterway also doesn’t require a license if you’re looking to adventure a bit c: I always like to use high low rigs but a fish finder rig would work really well over there too. Seal beach is very flat, sandy, and warm which is like the most optimal environment for sea pancakes. Yellowfin croakers also like to hang out in that area, you’ll know you caught one because they usually have very vibrant yellow fins 😂 (sometimes they’re a bit pale but you’ll notice it). If you happen to swim or wade in seal beach waters, you have to do the stingray shuffle while you’re walking around, seal beach is unfortunately common for stingray pokes D:!

    Do you need a fishing license to fish at a jetty in California?

    • @SvenGoesFishing
      @SvenGoesFishing  Před 10 měsíci +3

      That’s the silly part actually, so for California you can fish license free on any public pier, or the longer jetty of 2 that protect a waterway. Sooo you just have to figure out if the one you plan to fish on a license free one or not unfortunately xD… worse comes to worst, you can always contact someone from Fish and Wildlife and inquire if the jetty you plan to fish at needs a license or not c: hope that kinda helps 😅
