- Somehow my wife and I have never seen this classic movie written by Stephen King and directed by Rob Reiner. Leave a comment and tell us some fun facts about this movie and tell us what we should watch next!

When I grew up every 10-12 year old kid could walk 30 miles.
I know man, I used to leave the house at dawn and just dissappear all day, I have kids now and I'd NEVER let them do that lol.
@@firstcityviews These days, hell no. Too many psychos out there nowadays.
It was filmed in Oregon. It also takes place in Oregon.
From what I can see it says the book takes place in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine.
@@firstcityviews but the beginning of the movie says Castle Rock, Oregon.
Wil Wheaton was in Toy Soldiers, a movie about a boys school being taken over by terrorists. Also stars Sean Astin. It’s not too bad.
The older brother gangster getting a tattoo carved into his arm is Casey Siemaszko and he was in Young Guns and recently a character in Red Dead Redemption 2.
The blond guy in the older gang is in Summer School and Planes Trains & Automobiles.
Oo, Toy Soldiers is excellent. I don't hear about it much anymore.
1:12 "... there's bullies, and it takes place in Maine like all Stephen King stuff does."
King 101
Great upload, one of my favorite movies as it was filmed less than 30 mins from my house. Thanks for the reaction
Thanks for watching, we live in Southeast Alaska so we have similar landscapes, it just rains WAY more.
This one actually doesnt take place in Maine. It's Castle Rock, Oregon. Gordie says it in the beginning of his storytelling.
They’re not 10. They are 12 and 13 amd Southerland is playing late teens
Jerry O'Connell (Vern) also played Georgie Cooper (Sheldon's brother) in The Big Bang Theory. So him acting with Wil Wheaton kind of came full circle.
Nice! Did know he was on Big Bang.
It’s not really a fun fact but will Wheaton can connect to Gordie bc he was brought up in an abusive household
Dude They're not 10. They are going into Junior High and Ace is probably playing a Kate teen
Late
I think the place River Phoenix died outside of was called The Viper Room.
Thanks! Couldn't think of the name odd the top of my head but I knew it was one of those Sunset Strip bars.
I’ve been to it ur correct
In 2001 I was working next door at Tower Video and was pulling in to work and noticed a crazy guy had started a small tradh fire at the bottom of the gas tank at the back of the Viper Room. I ran over with a bunch of water and gatorade and put it out. Spoke to security. Went to work. Got a call from Viper Room management that night thanking me and giving me free entry for life.
Stand by Me (The Body) and Shawshank Redemption were both part of the same collection of short stories, and they're loosely tied together. The Ace character (Kiefer Sutherland) does four years in Shawshank in one of the other stories.
Whoa! That's wild! I'm guessing he missed Warden Norton or maybe just caught the tail end of his time.
16:09 the engineer was hitting the whistle a lot, but he sure wasn't trying to slow down any! 😆
Ummm, trains don't just come to a stop...unbelievable.
@@malcolmdrake6137 right, miles maybe for a complete stop. but it didnt seem like any brakes where applied at all.
1:12 Oregon, sorry it's just in Oregon.
Yes but it's supposed to be the fictional town of Castle Rock Maine.
wasn't expecting to see the beard! 😯
Looking forward to it!!
Heard three words from the movie beyond y'alls conversation before I turned off after 5mn
OH NO! Please come back, you seem like such a nice guy! Lol
I love this film. The music video, for Stand By Me - Ben E King also had River Phoenix and Will Wheaton in the music video with Ben E King which also had footage from the film and Ben E King's performance 60s peppered in.
Richard Dreyfus got his role because he had just the right kind of whimsy to his voice
This is still in my Top 10 👍👏🏻🇬🇧
I can't believe it took us this long to see it! We have several classic 80's movies we need to watch on the channel so keep watching for those.
10:27 it would be amazing just to have the same glasses. But what are the odds that you're recording a reaction to that movie using those same glasses?? incredible. absolutely incredible.
Totally, a perk of having a wife that is a thrift store fanatic.
They didn't kill Ace cause he's a character in Needful Things book.
1990s IT is way closer to book than newer ones. 2002 Carrie, 2009 Children of the Corn
Another commenter said Ace ends up going to Shawshank prison at one point. Are there any other King characters that make appearances in multiple books?
@@firstcityviews I know in The Tommyknockers book it references seeing a clown in the sewers waving at someone driving by. Also in Needful Things book, it said Ace does beat up Chris/Gordie following The Body (Stand By Me). In movie Pet Semetary 1989 there's a poster referencing Cujo and a sign showing "Derry 8"
Christine is in another book if you consider a possessed car a character.
I believe Randal Flagg from The Stand is as well but can't recall other location.
Great reaction to one of my faves! Stand by me was actually filmed in Brownsville Oregon. I always loved the cinematography and backdrops in this movie...has a dreamy feel to it.
Definitely has a Pacific Northwest feel to it, also you can tell tons of movies were influenced by this one.
I lived in silverton
and the landscape looks entirely similar. I’m glad to finally place it. Thanks
River was about 16 at this time of the movie
He looked 14, IMO. I miss him.
@@Madbandit77 same
8:45 "it's very, uh, Spielbergian."
having the qualities of Spielberg.
vern is so simple. if he gets anything out of the adventure it’s a penny
He was definitely our favorite.
7:38 nice popup.
Ethan Hawke was in Explorers with River Phoenix.
Yeah, and I got the 3rd kid confused with Feldman.
2:18 connelly 👍🏼
Buddy Holly's music is not public domain.
4:20 Yes, he was.
4:25 Yes, he is.
100% I actually didn't mind him that much on TNG but he is insufferable now.
@@firstcityviews Yeah. I actually grew up around Wil. We attended the same high school in La Crescenta, California. We crossed paths a few times. He was picked on some (this was just prior to his time on TNG) but he always seemed like a decent, nice enough guy. But Wesley always annoyed me - and I also find him unsufferable on Twitter.
That's crazy you knew him! Just goes to show that getting too into politics can warp a person into someone no one wants to be around, no matter what side you shill for.
@@firstcityviews Damn it, I wish I hadn't seen this comment and looked at his Twitter. I've always loved this movie and now I kinda don't like him all of a sudden...
New to this channel, but not to this movie. Seen it like 3 times since the beginning of this year and watched like all the movie reaction videos for this movie so far. Looking forward seeing your reaction as well.
Thanks! This only our 2nd reaction so let us know what you think, what we could do better and what movies we should check out. I'll be in the chat during the premiere.
Y’all should check out ‘Last of the Mohicans’ classic movie with Daniel Day Lewis…
Watched it in high school history, probably around 1997, so basically I remember nothing, we'll add it to the list, I love Daniel Day-Lewis.
14:17 kelly singing 👍🏼
Request for another 80's movie after this one: The Neverending Story.
Seen it, love it, keep the suggestions coming, there are a ton we haven't seen.
Good job guys.. I’m glad u enjoyed it!!
Absolutely! Great frickin movie!
Explorers was River Phoenix and Ethan Hawke
You fellers should check out a murder in Coweta County has johnny cash and andy Griffith in it :)
My favorite movie
We loved it too, you can tell so many other movies reference or were influenced by it.
Have you seen Scent of A Woman, Misery, Little Miss Sunshine, or One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest.
Only seen Little Miss Sunshine, One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest is on the list and we'll add Scent of a Woman, I've heard it's amazing. Thanks for the recommendations!!!
"Pretend like ten year olds don't say that stuff."
Based on that sentence I guess you haven't seen the movie Good Boys? There's kids swearing in that one.
You are correct, have not seen it.
@@firstcityviews a shocking amount. 🙂

Great reaction video. I would have picked a few other important/funny/emotional moments to show, but I guess that's a matter of taste. I feel like you left out some of the major lines/jokes. For example the newspaper in the beginning reading "Attorney Christopher Chambers fatally stabbed" and the goodbye moment between Chris and Gordie near the end where Gordie (as the narrator) tells how Chris became a lawyer and died trying to break up a fight (which we also see him doing a few times during the movie). The moment in the junkjard when Gordie tells Teddie, Vern and Chris to shut up and they respond with: "I don't shut up, I grow up and when I look at you I throw up." And then Gordie finishing it off by saying: "And then your mother comes around the corner and she licks it up." And of course the final line of the story Gordie wrote: "I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?"
I would like to know how those moments made you feel.
Appreciate your feed back! At some point we will upload the full reactions somewhere else like other reactors do but we don't have enough content at this point to justify it, lots more videos coming!
They talked over all those parts.
Well reacted, Vern was also my favorite in the movie, closely followed by Chris, who is probably symbolic of the best friend in the world a person could ever want.
Since you already know a lot of movies, I took some effort and made a bigger list of movies I would like to see a reaction from you, and maybe there are a few you haven't seen yet.

DUDE! This is an amazing list, tons of movies we haven't seen, thanks so much!
You’re the worst.
Talking the the whole time.
Over the movie. Sure ya didn’t hear much.
It was only our 2nd reaction, sorry you didn't enjoy it, feel free to check out or newer videos and you won't find that problem, or feel free to check out one of the hundreds of other mouth breathers with nothing to say.
wanna see a kid cuss film?
try “Good Boys” 2019
Wil Wheaton IS sadly annoying now.
His Twitter hot takes make me cringe so hard I get physically ill.
@@firstcityviewsI can help you with that. Don’t look at it 😂👍
How can you possibly watch a movie when you talk all the way through it? React, yes, but you can't react if you're not paying attention.
We've been told we talk too much, then in the next video that we don't talk enough. Can't please everyone. You are aware you can just watch Stand by me right? The more you know...
@@firstcityviews I am aware. No need to be snarky. It is one of my favorite movies. I watch people review my favorites so I can see others enjoy the magic. You know I can and will go back and watch really good reactions like Rob Squad, Asia and BJ, Nick Reacts or EOM Reacts. You've got a whole lot of competition. You may want to see how it's done.
All those accounts you mentioned are some of the most chatty react channels I can think of lol! Nothing but talking over the movie the entire time! Not saying I don't like them but those are weird examples to show someone who you think talks to much.
Whaaaat?!! No like sports…?! 😅
@@firstcityviews Nasty reply. If you can't take criticism, don't put yourself out there
Four minutes, 36 seconds in and I'm bailing. Non-stop talking, talking over the movie, listening to nothing. BYE
Oh no! Please come back! You seem so nice lol.
What if I told you, you can just watch the movie with no one reacting to it....
@@firstcityviews I saw it in the theater in 1986. We LISTENED
hey my name is john. I just started a movie reaction channel a month or two ago.
its having a hard time gaining traction. so i thought id contact some other smaller channels.
id love to maybe share editing tips, general tips and come up with ideas if thats cool?
we could maybe just chat in this comment thread?
im also thinking of creating a discord server for very small movie reaction channels where
we can all discuss and help eachother out.
Sounds like a great idea man! I'm in.
I subbed to your channel, I love the idea of going through the Disney classics, message me on twitter and we can talk more, @FirstCityViews
