- Thank you so much for watching my reaction to Stand By Me.
"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve..."
This was a brilliant coming of age film, filled with a roller coaster of emotions. One minute I was shocked and on the edge of my seat, the next I was laughing and then tearing up. It was also jam packed with some of the best roasts and comebacks I've ever heard! The soundtrack was also stellar! Thank you for your votes on my poll.

River Phoenix, even at that age was an absolute powerhouse actor. Its so sad that his life was cut short too.
Phenomenal actor! So sad 😞
@@EveReacts his fellow actor/friend Keanu Reeves was hit so hard during his passing ...
His brother sure has done well.
This movie was absolutely stacked with a powerhouse of actors and an unbelievable soundtrack. What a gem. (It's very dusty in here, I'm not crying....)
'He was stabbed in the throat, he died almost instantly' 😥😫
Floods, every time - even after watching it a dozen or more times since I was 11.
Excellent acting by River Phoenix (RIP). Sad to think what wonderful future roles we all missed out on that he would've been a part of. At least Joaquin, his little brother, carries River with him and he grew up to be an excellent actor.
Joaquin gave up acting once as a kid after becoming discouraged, and it was River who talked him into getting back into it.
Before he became known as Joaquin Phoenix he was credited as Leaf Phoenix (that's if you wanted to see any of his earlier performances)...
Yeah it’s too bad he was a druggie. What a waste of talent
"No Ace. Just you." Most powerful line of the movie. It says everything about everyone there knew about Ace. Even the big kids knew.
I’m not crying, you are. 😢 Man, what a timeless piece of cinema. Absolutely loved this reaction.
*#FYI* The actor who played *Christopher* is *Hollywood* heartthrob *River Phoenix* who unfortunately died outside the *Hollywood Night Club The Viper Room* of a (drug overdose) in *1993* he was only *23*
"Oh Billy! I wish we never boosted that Car! Oh Billy! I think i just turned my Fruit of the Loom's into a Fudge Factory!" I always loved that line from Teddy.
I had a friend just like Teddy growing up and he died young like Chris Thought would happen to Teddy.
Chris : you 4 eyed pile of shit
Teddy : a pile of shit has A THOUSAND eyes... 😂
In the book they all three died, Gordie was the only one to live.
The kids were played by River Pheonix, Corey Feldman, Wil Wheaton and Jerry O'Connell. River sadly passed away, Corey was successful for quite a while and Jerry and Wil are still acting. Wil played himself on Big Bang Theory
Wil also played himself on the SyFy show Eureka. And of course his biggest role Wesley Crusher on Star Trek The Next Generation.
Jerry O'Connell (Vern) was in Scream 2, Sliders, Kangaroo Jack, the TV shows Crossing Jordan, The Big Bang Theory (a few times), Billions and the voice of commander Jack Ransom on Star Trek: Lower Decks.
Of course don't forget Kiefer Sutherland (Ace) - son of legendary actor Donald Sutherland & was in The Lost Boys (also with Corey Feldman), Flatliners, Phone Booth, The Vanishing, Dark City, A Time To Kill, Eye For An Eye, The Cowboy Way, Young Guns 1 & 2, the TV show 24 (as Jack Bauer) & the voice of General W.R. Monger in Monsters Vs Aliens.
From the same novella collection (4 stories) as Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemtion. ☺
i have seen this movie more times than i can count. and i always, always cry at the ending.
One of the issues (especially as it relates to Chris in this story) is that when you're young the world seems so small. It seems like everyone knows everything about you.
Well in a small town they do.
I lived in a town of 300 people for awhile.
Everyone knew everyone and their kids.
It was actually pretty cool for me as an adult.
Imagine moving into your new apt which is over a bar on a Saturday and the entire bar of stranges empties out and helps move all your stuff up to your apt.
That was my first experience with my fine town neighbors.
Hell the local mechanic would pick up your car and return it to you for oil changes. Or just pick you up and bring you to the shop to get your car.
I miss that place even if it was in the middle of nowhere.
I grew up in the 70's in a town in Wisconsin on the Mississippi River. I lived next door to my cousins there were four of us boys aged 9-12. Most of our families worked for the railroad which ran right thru our town along the river. We had many days just like this (Minus the dead body). We would leave in the morning with a few snacks and be gone all day. Walking the tracks picking up iron ore pellets for our slingshots or go fishing, we even had a secret tree house with a stack of Playboy's. Some days we stopped by the depot to see my Grandpa and see if we could get a ride up the tracks on the Putt-Putt Car. We had only one rule, be home by dark or call home if we were staying over at each others house. It was a glorious childhood
I watched this in the theater in my teens when it came out.
I had tears in my eyes then and still get them when I watch it now.
An excellent film.
The last 2 lines typed on that old green CRT screen are the truest words ever written.
"Also, should they be walking on those train tracks?"
{Nervously looks around.}
Walking on tracks, looking for dead bodys. These guys lived dangerously
The scene where Gordie is talking about his dad hating him is especially poignant considering it has come to light that Wils father was abusive
Dang.. is that why he is why he is?... so sad :*(
Corey Feldman's parents were abusive as well.
I'm on a massive Jack Bauer binge at the moment so this is well timed.
I just watched a few shows about the night River Phoenix died at the Viper Room in 94, strange story. but everything is still there like the same payphone on the street his brother Joaquin Phoenix called 911 from. There is weird videos that night of Jonny Depp, Hunter S. Thompson and John Cusack pulling up in a convertible all screwed up with a blow up doll. They looked like they were prob tripping on acid that night. I despise celebrity worship but its an interesting story. River seemed like a cool dude that wouldn't think he's above you because he's a famous actor
River Phoenix was Chris, Jerry O' Connell was Vern, Corey Feldman was Teddy, Will Wheaton was Gordy, Kiefer Sutherland was the gang leader, John "Ace," Casey Siemaszko was Billy - Vern's brother, John Cusack - Dennis "Denny," Bradley Gregg was Richard " Eyeball" - Chris' brother, Gary Riley was Charlie, Jason Oliver Lipsett was Vince.
If you think Chris's story is tragic, wait until you find out about the actor who played him.
The director's commentary when he talks about that final shot of Chris fading away and gets all choked up...damn.
It’s funny how the actors fates are parallel to the characters: Wil became a writer, Corey was (and still is) struggling with his inner demons, Jerry carved out a nice chunk of life for himself and became a voice actor, and River died as his reputation and name was growing
As a biased viewer (this is my favorite movie of all time) THANK YOU! For being the first reactor ive seen giving the scene with arguably the coldest line ever a full play.
"No, Ace, just you."
Thank you for this reaction. This hidden gem is well worth watching no matter what era.
This one takes me back...😁👍 Good Stephen King story
I have always liked this movie. 4 pre-teen boys and the power of a true friendship...
Your views are going to skyrocket doing movies over series/episodic programs. You hit even older movies than this one will really draw in great numbers of folks. Hitchcock, Tarantino, Steven King movies greatly help newer channels.
Add in directors (some as well as actors) John Carpenter, James Cameron, Ridley Scott, Robert Wise, Sylvester Stallone, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Richard Donner, Joe Dante, John Landis, Clint Eastwood, Jody Foster, George Romero, Joe Schumacher, Tobe Hooper, David Fincher, Christopher Nolan, Mel Gibson, Ron Howard, Penny Marshall, Nick Castle, Sydney Pollack, Walter Hill, Blake Edwards, Woody Allen, Bobby & Peter Farley, Ivan Reitman, Tim Burton, Nancy Meyers, Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia Coppola, Stanley Kubrick, John Hughes, Chris Columbus, Kathryn Bigelow, John Ford, Don Segal & William Friedkin to name a few more...
Great reaction to a fantastic film, such great acting, possibly the best from such a young cast I can remember seeing.
Director Rob Reiner was not aware that there was a Portland Maine so he set them movie in Oregon. The Junk Yard man, Milo Pressman, said Teddy's dad was in the Loony Bin, The V.A. Hospital at Togus...That's in Maine. Stephen King wrote the story. He is from Maine. The Best writers write about what they know. French names. Lachance, (Gordy) Duchamp, (Teddy) New England is full of Families of French descent. The French came down into New England from Quebec in the 19th century to work in the big Textile mills. Merrill (Ace) is also a very common New England name. The Movie was set in Oregon but the story was set in Maine. People die. When we are young we have no idea who is going to die when. The race is not always to the swift, not the battle to the strong, nor yet riches to men of understanding, But time and chance happen to us all." Ecclesiastes, Old Testament. I graduated High School in 1975. 30+ of the kids I was in school with have died. And probably another 30 I don't know about. Nobody knows who and nobody knows when. My advice...Be ready. I suggest a heart to heart talk with Jesus of Nazareth. I'm a writer... like Stephen King. "The Angel Who Rode Greyhound" ...Murphy, The Prince, & The Deer Who Could Fly." Look me up on Amazon. When I was a kid, The kids in the neighborhood used to beg me to tell them stories. I was good at it. My Mother read to us. I memorized the stories and told them to my mates. I borrowed those words until I could find my own. In this story, I was Gordy. But I knew kids like Vern and Teddy, and Chris and Ace and Eyeball and Billy, People are different now...and the same. But it is a different time. I liked that time better...When I write fiction I don't write about smart phones and or Internet. or on line games. The day will come when My writing will be obsolete. I still use a Land Line. I do not own a T.V. Good Movie. Well written short story. If any of you are readers the story is "The Body" By Stephen King.
Thanks for reacting to this one, one of my favourites as a kid and the older I get the more I can relate to it. Truly a beautiful story
This is my all time favorite movie! The nostalgia i feel watching it is crazy i watched it all the time in the early 2000's as a kid👌
Very nice, Eve. You've got a good heart in you.
Thanks for giving the script room to breathe, and not just talking over it like so many reactors do.
I enjoyed re-watching this with you. Well done. Thanks -
As a former Jeep owner, I respect Gordy making the distinction between a car accident and a Jeep accident.
One Of Stephen King's Best Movies Based On A Novel
there are some pretty good king adaptations... shawshank redemption, the green mile, the mist, i mean even needful things is pretty great
@@stefanforrer2573 I 💯% agree with you, classic fuel you mentioned
A novella...not a novel.
@@wfly81 That's what it was and by the way, what is a novella
@@coreyhendricks9490 A novella is a story that's longer than a short story, but shorter than a novel.
I love Stand by Me & Now and Then!
A true classic movie.
I actually never noticed the article until you mentioned it here so thanks for that.
Grieving the loss of your sibling is so hard. I started seeing a grief counselor after my brother was killer, and we are labeled as ‘the forgotten mourners’. This is due to how society supports the parents, spouses and children of a passed person, but completely gloss over their siblings, the person who knew them best, related to them and grew up with them. It’s a hard loss to live with.
River phoenix came under the “club 27” when he died….he died very young. But he was great actor. I’ve seen documentaries on him and he was so talented
Great movie. A Stephan King adaption. You should watch other Stephan King adaptions like Misery,The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.
Even Ace was smart enough to know that you don't bring a knife to a gunfight.
Great movie. Great reaction.
What a beautiful reaction. Loved watching you experience this movie.
So not only does the movie make me cry, but reaction videos of the movie make me cry, too. Oh well...😢
Great movie but I always found it unnerving later when Chris (played by River Phoenix) said that Teddy probably wouldn't live past 20, when River himself tragectly died at 23. Such a waste probably would have become as talented an actor as his brother Joaquin
It's interesting you say that. For years after River's death Jaoquin was seen as the consolation prize Phoenix child. It was always assumed that River would become a great actor while Jaoquin was riding his coat tails. It took a long, long time for Jaoquin to shed the ghost of River.
@@billhicks6449 Right around the time of "Signs", people were finally starting to give him some credit. But it probably wasn't until "Walk the Lune" that he finally started getting respect.
@@wfly81 yup. It's in the same vein as Mark Walberg. For years people just saw him as Marky Mark trying to have a crappy acting career. For Jaoguin we started noticing in Gladiator but you're right that it was probably when he nailed transforming into Johnny Cash that people really took him as a serious great actor. I still remember people rolling their eyes when he was cast.
@@billhicks6449 Oh yeah, I forgot about Gladiator. Good call.
There's an urban focus coming of age movie *(The Boys In The Hood)* has the same infamous line *"WANT TO GO SEE A DEAD BODY"*
The way the classic song is laced throughout the score is beautiful. _Ghost_ also does the same with the song _Unchained Melody_ and it’s similarly lasting.
I'll suggest a comedy/espionage film that features River Phoenix, among its stellar ensemble cast, "Sneakers."
I'd love to see your reaction to Blazing Saddles
Stand by me was a story from Stephen King actually, when he was a kid there was another kid that died that way, and he was part of a group of friends that were toying with the idea of finding the kid. Speaking of Stephen King.... Doctor Sleep...... absolutely amazing, awesome, truly well done, probably the best book adaptation of his.
This was filmed a few miles down the road from where I grew up and every year they have a stand by me festival there. Also one of my favorite movies ever.
My favourite movie ever, has been since I was six and I refuse to change it
Everything that happens to the kids as they turn into adults in the movie happened basically in real life to the actors
Gordie grew up to be a writer Wheaton is a well known blogger
Vern had a normal life wife and kids like O’Connell
Teddy couldn’t get past his childhood trauma to find success as an adult like Feldman
Chris dies at a public place like Phoenix and is still the only one who has died
O’Connell got the best slice of life in my opinion. He’s happy, doing well and seems to enjoy voice acting, even voicing Superman in several dc animated movies
This is such a good movie. And I really like what the movie is about. It really taught me about true friendship. And I really like how all of these kids have also stuck together through the good times and the bad times,
Another brilliant reaction, Eve
Great reaction. I was 12 yesrs old when this movie came out. I never saw it in the theaters but once I saw it on TV it became one of my favorite movies of all time.
Greatest childhood movie I ever watched greatest cast I've ever seen when I first watched this the first time I watched it at 13 age ☺️ I'm glad you enjoyed the movie it's A hard One to get through if you've never been through experiences like they have! Glad you didn't judge the characters too much and on their choices in certain things
Such a good reaction, forgot how much I love this movie!
I love this movie. I actually think movies adapted from Steven King stories are typically hit or miss, but nearly every one that’s fantastic are the films adapted from the more grounded/human stories.
If you’re looking for more character driven movies like this check out “What’s eating Gilbert Grape” sometime if you haven’t.
Every time I see this movie when Chris (River Phoenix) say's "I bet he doesn't live to 20" about Teddy. It hits kinda hard being as River died at 23.
Almost immediately after I saw Stand By Me for the first time I found out River Phoenix had died young. Pretty disturbing to find that out after seeing his character suffer a similar fate.
The summer vacation in the few years before puberty were pretty awesome as I recall.
It's okay to cry. I do every time at the end too. This movie is something truly special, truly timeless. Nearly everyone can relate to one or more of the characters. I'm newly subbed, I'll be binging a bunch of your videos. Cheers from NYC!
great movie selection
Hey, you edited this video perfect btw
Jerry O'Connell, who plays Vern lost all of his "baby fat" he looks great today. LOL
This is one of my comfort movies.
Can’t say enough about this movie, its a reminder of coming of age, true understanding of life and death, especially true friendships, which is harder to find true friends now a days. It reminds me to hold on to true friendships as long as you can, because you never know what life can throw. Thanks for sharing that movie. It brought me back.👍🌅
Lovely reaction again, like Rain Man. Please do more heartwarming movies to react to. Thank you.
Rain Man is a terrific film.
I have so much to say, but the comment section said it all. What powerful acting in this timeless classic.
I really enjoyed your video Eve! So genuine.
i watched this film when I was 12 and I think it changed me forever. It captures the feeling of losing friends so well. Like you have all these coming of age memories with certain people you don't ever talk to anymore, leaving you with just memories that no one else around you relates too. Really sad :(
This film and Dead Poets Society are my top-two 80s films, and they both still hit hard in the feels, regardless how many times you rewatch them.
I read this story in 1987 when I was twelve, actually (it was from an anthology of novellas by Stephen King called “Different Seasons”). Strangely, i didn’t see the movie until around 20 years later. The title in the book is “The Body”
Different Seasons also contains “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption”. Another movie was made from a story in it - “Apt Pupil” - it wasn’t as popular a film though.
Hey, just found your channel the other day. Love your reactions! Keep it up!
I loved your reaction to this. When you cried, I cried. LOL
Check out the movie "River's Edge" starring a young Keanu Reeves, Ione Skye, and Crispin Glover. So good.
Loving your choice of content, keep up the superb work.
You gave it a good try! A commendable attempt to resist crying.
I really tried 😅😢
Really enjoyed your reaction to this. And I really liked the editing choices. You got all the important beats in there and I like the choice to continue to let the audio play in some scenes so that we still get your full experience to the narrative beat while still paying mind to the copyright police. That's a clever choice that I wish more people would make.
Chris fantastic role a true friend just like I am. In reality RIP River Phoenix. Such a shame
The songs in the soundtrack are a significant character. I shopped for the soundtrack CD and found it less than complete. I checked out the song/music listing at the end and set off to the not-so-nearby used CD store to find missing tracks. Here's what I assembled in "movie order":
1. "Red River Rock" by Johnny & The Hurricanes, 1959 (I couldn't find an orchestral version of "Stand By Me, " so I used this period correct song.)
2. "Rockin' Robin" by Bobby Day, 1958
3. "Sorry (I Ran All The Way Home)" by The Impalas, 1959
4. "Mr. Lee" by the Bobbettes, 1957
5. "Rebel Rouser" by Duane Eddy, 1958 (A substitute for "The Ballad of Paladin.")
6. "Great Balls of Fire," by Jerry Lee Lewis, 1957
7. "Whispering Bells" by The Del Vikings, 1957
8. "Let The Good Times Roll" by Shirley and Lee, 1956
9. "Book of Love" by the Monotones, 1957
10. "Lollipop" by The Chordettes, 1958
11. "Everyday" by Buddy Holly, 1958
12. "Come Go With Me" by The Del Vikings, 1956
13. "Come Softly To Me: by The Fleetwoods, 1959
14. "Hushabye" by The Mystics, 1959
15. "Get A Job" by the Silhouettes, 1957
16. Yakety Yak" by The Coasters, 1958
17. "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King, 1960
Total Time, 40:24
A good "Girls becoming Women" movie, "Peppermint Soda": czcams.com/video/DQ3sWtXsP6s/video.html
R.I.P River Phoenix...😥
my favorite movie of all time
Kids die in Castle Rock all the time.
Yeah, I'd move away after all of the weird creepy stuff that's happened there.
6:17 When I was a teen we walked the tracks all the time, only for a mile or so though. Not nearly this far.
You picked a good movie to watch! It is one the best, also my favourite. Two, thumbs up 👍
Great editing, thanks
This director, Rob Reiner, also made another excellent movie, “MISERY” with James Caan and Kathy Bates.
His other movie, “When Harry Met Sally” is another classic!
Rob Reiner was also in “Wolf of Wall Street” with Leonardo DiCaprio
You have a beautiful smile btw.
He also directed the 80s classic 'The Princess Bride'...
Another eighties movie, you may like, is Better off Dead. Has john Cusack, funny and goofy typical 80's awesomeness.
Yo, every time I search this movie there's always a new reaction to it. Great movie choice! I can't express any words for this movie, it was a masterpiece. In all Stephen King's work, this one is my favorite. Fun facts: this movie was almost never released, the production doesn't have enough trust in the movie. The best decision the filmmakers did was to release it and to use the song Stand By Me as one of the backbones of this movie. Thank you, take care and God bless.
Love this movie another one to watch is sandlot enjoy your channel
This is my favourite movie 🍿🎥😊❤️🖤💛💙💚♥️💜😂😍💖🌟
Great film. RIP River Phoenix (Chris) he went way too soon.
No sympathy for junkies.
The actor for the bully asked why the hat isn't returned to gordy... and the director said its because the bully probably threw it away around the corner... he wouldn't even have put it on and ruined his hair
First time watching your reaction to anything...love it so far!! Just wanted to say...Very beautiful eyes!! :) Anyways...going to subscribe and watch your Always Sunny Reactions next!!haha
it's America, trains don't run as often as in the Commonwealth.
You're so smart how you anticipate scenes.
This is actually a Stephen King short story from one of his books. In the book it's called " The Body ".
This is my favourite movie ❤
Awesome video reaction
Lol, nah, I doubt you would like to live in the 50's. No internet, no mobile phones, hardly any of the creature comforts we're used to. A very different world. Heck I think even the 90's would be a shock for most people of your age!
Not just that, but people's mindsets on things. A lots changed socially since the 50's.
It's particularly hard for me to watch Chris' image disappear. I mean, after what happened to River in the end. River did not grow up in ideal circumstances either, and he was taken advantage of by adults.
I'm so sad she doesn't upload anymore. I just found her channel.
