  • Volvo XC 60 t8 off road test continues on summer time. This car have air suspension on front and rear. First simple rti ramp test on standard and off road height, there is noticeable difference on articulation. So you have to decide smoother ride, but lower ground clearance, or higher ground clearance, but much more bumpier ride and less articulation. Because comfort is also lost at off road mode, but you can not drive it faster than 30km/h, beyond that car put itself on a constant awd mode and lowers to standard height. You can not adjust drive height at yourself, it is fixed to drive modes.
One thing is not clear, is the Volvo esc work difference at constant awd and off road mode, it is possible that there is minor difference how it let wheelspin. But if you put esc off, edl is off also, so definetly keep esc on when off roading.
ESC, or should we speak EDL, electornic differential lock working ok after all, on winter conditions at previous video were so different because of slippery conditions, that it was hard to estimate how edl really works on braking slipping wheel.
It is funny, few times on video you can notice that engine rews suddenly quite high, same on winter, even so that I try to keep as constant throttle all time.
And notice, before anyone says that wheelspin is bad etc. On open diffs with EDL you need to keep certain rpm on wheels to activate edl. Quite common mistake on these type of cars is that when wheels start to spin, you held off the throttle. But that is wrong, when wheels start to spin, keep constant throttle and let your car electronics do the work.
Some cars can manage it excellent, like Land Rovers, and some manage it very poor. I think Volvo is quite in the middle. BMW Xdrive is quite good also on these category cars.

The video did good here as it looks like you have pretty low profile tires like it's summer tires or basic all seasons but what I see here is that the enegine is doing alot of the work here not the rear motor so you're almost basically off roading in fwd as the issue is that the esc isn't calibrated right with the hybrid set up which is a shame imo but I can say the t5 or t6 awd system is a hell of alot better then the hybrid awd system on the volvo suvs, as the xc40 recharge has a better esc control off roading then the T8 powerplant.
